What if everything were dependent on our praying for or about it.

Then we'd be in trouble, if it were all up to us.  Sad Romans 8:26 "...We do not even know how we ought to pray, but through our inarticulate groans the Spirit Himself is pleading for us, and God who searches our inmost being knows what the Spirit means, because He pleads for God's people in God's own language."

What's the point of living, if our every breath comes from God? What's the point of doing good or evil, if our lives are controlled by Him? What's the point of anything??

Collosians 1:16,17 "Because in Him were created all things, in the heavens and upon the earth, the things seen and the things unseen, whether thrones or lordships or principalities or authorities - they all by Him and for Him have been created. And He was before all, and they all in Him hold together."
We pray because God has asked it of us. We live because He is gracious. We obey because we love Him, and we love Him because He first loved us. "In Him (Christ) is the fulfillment of all things." We do not live in a pointless existence.

We are free individuals.  It is up to us whether or not we pray. But, often Father leads us to pray when we least expect it.  Our very life is dependant upon God.  And I believe he watches our every move.  If we are grieving in any way, Father would see our plight whether we prayed to Him or not.
Our grief would be a prayer in itself because the Holy Spirit is with us and prays for us.

Paul, Silvanus, and Timotheus unto the church of the Thessalonians:
1 Thessalonians 5:17.  Pray without ceasing.
 18.  In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Amen, Ollie. I heard a sermon preached about prayer; while we are in communion with God, not only speaking but listening and reflecting on Him, it is impossible for us to sin. Comforting thought.

And no, you don't need a Bible to pray, LOL! Not to ignore the need for scripture, of course.

Just a thought about prayer and worrying:

If you're gonna worry, then why pray?

Wow-It's amazing this thread popped up. I just finished a study on prayer. It's a couple of pages long (on paper) but I can post it if anybody wants it. I'm putting it in my church newsletter.

Thanks Ollie, I was sorta thinking /bout it that way too.

God isn't stopped by our lack of prayer; but He's possibly facilitated by our prayer--as we are his church, his bride, so he works through us.  Which satan hates.   Angry Grin

Yes, Whitehorse, we'd like to see it.  thanks.

The bible does reveal how, what, who, and  when to pray according to God's will. So having a bible is helpful in this respect. Prayer should be in accordance to what God wants prayed to Him not what we want prayed to Him.
Also God does not hear the prayers of sinners, so the bible could also reveal to one how not to be a sinner and be washed clean in the blood of Christ so that God will hear the prayer of that one.

The bible or the word of God is very necessary for prayer.

Malificent:

It is absolutely NOT TRUE that you cannot pray unless you have your Bible with you.  On the other hand, before we pray we should open God's Word and see what He would like us to bring to our thoughts and prayers when we approach His throne of grace.

In response to the opening question, while everything that happens is not dependent on our praying, you and I have absolutely no idea as to how powerful our prayers are in relation to the spiritual battle that is raging around us. God makes prayer an IMPERATIVE in our battles against Satan and all his evil forces (Eph. 6:18-20).

When the apostles were unable to heal a demon-possessed lad, the Lord told them plainly that it was because of a lack of prayer and fasting.  There are times when we must both fast and pray in order to defeat the adversary.

God takes our prayers very seriously, and there is much that is actually dependent upon our praying or not praying -- "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man AVAILETH MUCH" [accomplishes a lot]. James 5:16
