al-Qaeda Vows to Target U.S. Cities with 'Radioactive Trucks'...

The threat was picked up by DEBKAfile’s monitors from a rush of electronic chatter on al Qaeda sites Thursday, Aug. 8.

The al Qaeda communications accuse the Americans of the grave error of failing to take seriously the videotape released by the American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gaddahn last week. “They will soon realize their mistake when American cities are hit by quality operations,” said one message.

Another said the attacks would be carried out “by means of trucks loaded with radio-active material against America’s biggest city and financial nerve center.”

A third message mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets. It drew the answer: “The attack, with Allah’s help, will cause an economic meltdown, many dead, and a financial crisis on a scale that compels the United States to pull its military forces out of many parts of the world, including Iraq, for lack of any other way of cutting down costs.”

There is also a message which speaks obliquely of the approaching attacks easing the heavy pressure America exerts on countries like Japan, Cuba and Venezuela.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources and monitors say there is no way of gauging for sure how serious these threats are, how real, or whether they are part of a war of nerves to give the Gaddahn tape extra mileage. But it is important to note that the exchange of messages took place over al Qaeda’s internal Internet sites and that they contained the threat of radioactive terror and specific American cities for the first time after a long silence on these subjects.

In addition, a growing number of clips has been disseminated of late over al Qaeda sites instructing the faithful how to design remote-controlled gliders, pack them with explosives and launch them against predetermined targets.

New York steps up security against al Qaeda attack in response to DEBKAfile Exclusive Report, followed by additional info on Manhattan dirty bomb

New York police increased security Friday, Aug. 10, throughout Manhattan and tunnels and bridges against threat of an al Qaeda plot to detonate a dirty bomb in the city. The department cited an “unverified radiological threat” from Internet chatter reported on Israeli Web site debka.com, stressing the security hike was precautionary.

At the same time, the NY police confirmed to Reuters that additional information had been received that a dirty bomb may go off on Friday evening around 34th Street in Manhattan, where the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden and Macy’s department store are located. The deployment of radiological sensors was increased on vehicles, boats and helicopters and vehicle checkpoints set up in Wall Street, lower Manhattan’s financial district and at bridges and tunnels.

New York Mayor and US homeland department played down the threat as “unsubstantiated” and stressed the city’s alert status stayed unchanged at “orange.”

I know we are supposed to love our enemies, etc....but I get so sick of seeing that Adam Gaddahn on tv.  Maybe they should just ignore his tapes.  I feel like he is just a person that needed and wanted attention, so he joined Al Qaeda.

I hope they are just spouting hot air....but they are so crazy with hate, you never know.  They really need the Lord.  I pray they will find Him as their Savior.

Brother one of the reasons I don't use DEBKAfile’s, is there not always close to being right.  They have about a 50/50 ratio.  Thats why I always try to find another source, to back DEBKAfile’s up.

If you notice the NY police did confirm that additional information had been received on this as was reported by Reuters and several other news agencies.

NYPD eases measures over unsubstantiated threat
Radiation monitoring, checkpoints for vehicles entering Manhattan

The New York Police Department was reducing its extra security procedures Saturday, a day after ratcheting up counterterrorism precautions due to an unsubstantiated threat against the nation's largest city.

The NYPD had increased radiological monitoring and established checkpoints to examine vehicles in lower Manhattan and at other locations around the city on Friday night. By noon Saturday, the department was scaling back its efforts on a relatively quiet August weekend, said NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne.

Browne noted that the NYPD routinely uses radiological monitoring as part of its counterterrorism activity. The city did not increase its terror alert status in response to online chatter about a truck packed with radioactive material, although police deployed extra radiological sensors on street, water and air patrols.

Browne said Friday that the measures were "strictly precautionary," prompted by an Israeli Web site report that online posts were made following a video featuring an American member of al-Qaida threatening foreign diplomats and embassies across the Islamic world.

Homeland Security Department officials quickly said Friday that they had no reason to believe the comments presented a credible threat, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the police response was standard procedure for when city officials receive "potential but unconfirmed threats."

Israeli web site sparks terror alert
AP and Jpost.com staff, THE JERUSALEM POST    Aug. 11, 2007

New York authorities returned the alertness level to normal after haveing taken extra counterterrorism precautions over the weekend in response to what they said was an unsubstantiated radiological threat to the city reported by the Israeli Web site, DEBKAfile.

DEBKAfile on Friday cited Internet chatter suggesting that al-Qaida would use trucks loaded with radioactive material or "dirty bombs" to attack New York. It also mentioned Los Angeles and Miami as possible targets for dirty bomb attacks.

New York officials said that they had not changed the city's terror alert status in response to online chatter mentioning a truck packed with radioactive material. But police deployed extra radiological sensors on street, water and air patrols, and were stopping vehicles at checkpoints in lower Manhattan and around the city.

Deputy Police Commissioner Paul J. Browne called the measures "strictly precautionary." He said DEBKAfile reported that online posts containing the terror warning were made following a video released Sunday featuring an American member of al-Qaida threatening foreign diplomats and embassies across the Islamic world.

DEBKAfile's Giora Shamis defended the report, saying New Yorkers should be afraid.

"There was definitely a sentence in the warning that referred specifically to New York," Shamis told Channel 10.

DEBKAfile, a Web site founded in 2000 by Shamis and his wife, Diane Shalem, deals with security issues and is run out of Jerusalem. Security sources have sometimes questioned its credibility, saying some of its stories are conspiratorial and over-exaggerated.

DEBKAfile refused to reveal the source of the dirty bomb report, but in response to a query from The Jerusalem Post as to whether the recent "chatter" constituted a genuine threat, an editor at DEBKAfile said that "DEBKAfile has been exposing al-Qaida's activities for eight years."

"We have our sources, and [you can see] that the NYPD acted on our report," the editor said.

New York's Daily News tabloid splashed the story on its front page on Saturday, with the headline, "Dirty bomb scare rocks city."

"We are closely monitoring the situation," said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke. "There continues to be no credible information telling us that there's a threat to the homeland at this time."

The FBI also said there was no credible threat.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the police measures were nothing out of the ordinary.

"These actions are like those that the NYPD takes every day - precautions against potential but unconfirmed threats that may never materialize," he said in a statement.
