Rep. Brady: House Democrats have left campaign promises unfulfilled

A Texas Congressman says the Democrat-controlled House has very little to be proud of over the past 7 months.

Before leaving for the August recess, House Democrats claimed numerous achievements including raising the minimum wage, expanding children's health insurance coverage and "fighting to change direction in Iraq." However, Kevin Brady (R-Texas) says his Democratic colleagues have not kept many of their campaign promises.

"This is not the bipartisan open government that was promised. We've seen tax increase after tax increase. We've seen a number of assaults on pro-life issues," he states.

Brady says when it comes to life issues such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research; Democrats are taking the country in "exactly the wrong direction."

"There is no leftover life. A life begins at conception, and they just are intent on pushing this as the silver bullet, but in truth, the real hope for medical breakthroughs lies in non-embryonic stem cell research. That's where we can help people the quickest and to do it ethically," explains Brady.

Brady also warns that the children's health insurance expansion that was passed by the Democrats will cause "real heartache for seniors" because it slashes more than $50 billion from their Medicare Advantage plans over the next few years.

According to the Texas Republican, Democrats also did not completely follow through on their promise to make college loans more affordable for students.

"It was a promise to cut the interest rate in half, but in truth, what they did was scale it down little by little over a five-year period so that it reaches half the interest rate for six months and goes right back up," he says.

Brady says that under this new plan, students will only save a mere $17 a month.

He also says that Democrats initiated 300 investigations of the Bush Administration, as well as "a lot of futile debate" and non-binding resolutions on Iraq, instead of "working on what's important."

Did anyone expect anything any different? If they did then they are truly naive.

No surprises as far as the Democrats go, but I was wondering did Bush sign them into law??  I thought he was going to veto the bills.

Even though these bills may have been passed by the house and the senate not all of them have been enacted.
