You have selected a beautiful portion of scripture to comment on. Before I say anything here I would like to point out that you can get a wonderful study assist through a completely free Bible program called e-Sword. There are a number of different Bible versions available for it along with numerous commentaries and dictionaries as well as a number of other study aids such as maps of the Biblical days and a time line chart of the Bible. You can select several Bible versions and do a comparison of them. For the serious student there is even a Hebrew and Greek version. There are also some other books that are great study aids that can be added to it.

In the first verse that you gave there is a statement being made that we see referenced in the Gospels. Mat 3:3  Mar 1:3   Luke 3:4 and John 1:23. This portion of scripture is one of the many prophecies of the coming of the promised Messiah. It is speaking specifically of John the Baptist who was to make way for the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

It goes on to tell that Jesus will not be recognized for who He really is and that the people will instead hold to their many false idols. We are told though that those that recognize Him and accept Him will be His and He will take care of them.
