If what you said is true, then why did this screen not come up when I restarted the computer? I did this after I had to manually turn it off. Instead it came up the next morning when I turned the computer on. I have had to turn my computer off manually before when Internet Explorer has frozen up. I have never seen this screen before or had the computer delete files without my running the Windows XP repair programs. I might ask you to ask around some more concerning this. It is not that I don't believe you, but I would like to know for sure.

Brother,

I'll keep checking and looking around. I'll let you know what I find out. I do still have a Windows partition on my computer, and that partition is currently crashed with all kinds of problems. I never did get hard evidence for what was causing all of the problems, but I suspected that Windows Update was the villain.

Corrupt files are not always found on a boot-up. Sometimes they are not found until you try to access that program. There are other reasons for a file to become corrupt besides a manual turn-off, including a virus. Although a virus will usually come up with a notice from your anti-virus program first. Even the manual turn-off does not always cause a corrupt file, it depends on what the computer is doing at the time. If a program has frozen up the computer it probably is not doing anything at the time but may have stopped a program in the middle of something.

Windows XP is pretty reliable in preventing this sort of thing but it can occasionally happen but a rare event.
