Read: Luke 5: 1-11 Destined to Succeed!“And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper”2 Chr.26:5
God desires that we be successful. He doesn’t want us to just get by in life but to enjoy abundant success. Jesus said I am come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. He was talking about the very life of God. God has always tried to point man in the direction of success, right from the beginning of time. He is keenly interested in our success. The key to success is in following the instructions of God.
“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:” Isa.1:19.
Success comes as a result of obeying the word of Gods mouth. We see this in the instruction He gave to Joshua, a young leader who faced the great task of leading the people of Israel into the Promised Land. God said,
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”Jos.1:8. To meditate on Gods word is to know what He is saying, to think on it, to believe it, to confess it with your mouth and then to do it.
To meditate on His word is to accept it into your very being and come in agreement with God. Jesus said, “
Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” Matt. 18:19. To agree with God is to say exactly what He is saying. Just as two cannot walk together unless they be agreed so also for you to obtain what God has for you means you must come in agreement with what He is saying to you.
In our reading today Peter decided to agree with Jesus. Although they had fished all night and caught no fish Peter said,
"..nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net”. Peter made a decision to trust Jesus despite his circumstances and he was well rewarded for his obedience. When you seek Gods instruction and follow it you exalt His word and give Him Lordship over your situation. When you continue to do your own thing you will not succeed or just some how go through life. Mary the mother of Jesus is another person who understood the need to come in agreement with God. We see this in her response to the angel Gabriel who gave her the news that she would give birth to Jesus. “
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” Luke 1:38
Has success been eluding you? The only reason is because you have either not received instruction from God or you have not followed it. Your answer is with God.
“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth” Get alone with God, listen to what He instructs you. You don’t have to waste your life trying what does not work. In our reading today it was the same lake, the same boat, the same nets and the same fishermen, what was the difference? It was the Word of the Lord that brought the success. God’s instruction to you will cause you to succeed.
“Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.” Isa 48:17
Ask God for wisdom He is more than willing to give it you. He delights in your success!
“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding”
