I've been a Christian for a long time but there is still things that I do not understand about being led by the Spirit of God. I knew the Holy Spirit came to me and filled me because I spoke in different tongues but I do not understand it. I don't understand anything about this Spirit filled stuff. I've been back sliding and going back but I am tired of it. I wanna be led by the Spirit! Please help me understand what is being led by Spirit means and how can I be led by the Spirit.

Hello Ira,

Being led by the Spirit is when we give our desire to sin over to God and allow Him to work in and through us.  As sinners we have a tendency to fight against the will of the Lord and want to go our own ways (a sinful path) instead of His. Turn to God in prayer, read His word, avoid temptations through Him and simply let God guide you.

Good answer, Pastor Roger.

Ira, I have an old classic book put out by Moody Press.  It is called "The Three-fold Secret of the Holy Spirit".  If you can get a copy, I recommend it.  The author basically says the key is:  repentance, then learning to abide in Christ and learning to abide in the love of Christ.

If that is the same book that I am thinking of it was written by James H. McConkey 1897.

It is a fairly good book on this subject.

Yes, that's the author.  I read the book in the mid 1970s so couldn't remember his name!

Amen, sister.

I am reminded of an old sweet song ... "I Surrender All"

Quote
All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

The key word is not only surrender but to surrender "ALL", completely, fully, all to Him.

Pastor...It is my favorite song...I heard it sung so many times during an altar call, but as I grew in the Lord, I sang it as a life song...To give up my own selfish way and to allow the Lord to take full control of my life that I could live..it is when God could use me. I use the word allow in order to let someone know we have a choice and it is of free choice to surrender...As a bond slave unto the Lord...Bond slaves were free to go, but stayed a servant...

Sincerely,

Maryjane

Jesus Christ gave His all for us that we may truly live. It should be a joy and pleasure for us all to give our all to Him.
