Voters say Congress as bad as Bush 
Representatives given same 35 percent approval rating as president

People think the Democratic-led Congress is doing just as dreary a job as President Bush, following four months of bitter political standoffs that have seen little progress on Iraq and a host of domestic issues.

An AP-Ipsos poll also found that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is a more popular figure than the president and her colleagues on Capitol Hill, though she faces a gender gap in which significantly more women than men support her.

The survey found only 35 percent approve of how Congress is handling its job, down 5 percentage points in a month. That gives lawmakers the same bleak approval rating as Bush, who has been mired at about that level since last fall, including his dip to a record low for the AP-Ipsos poll of 32 percent last January.

``It's mostly Iraq'' plus a lack of progress in other areas, said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., who heads the House GOP's campaign committee. ``These are not good numbers for an incumbent, and it doesn't matter if you have an R or a D next to your name.''

Democrats agree the problem is largely Iraq, which has dominated this year's session of Congress while producing little more than this month's Bush veto of a bill requiring the withdrawal of U.S. troops. It has also overshadowed House-passed bills on stem cell research, student loans and other subjects that the White House opposes, they say.

``People are unhappy, there hasn't been a lot of change in direction, for example in Iraq,'' said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., chairman of House Democrats' campaign effort.

The telephone survey of 1,000 adults was taken Monday through Wednesday and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

IMHO, we need to replace most of them, and elect representatives who will actually represent the will of the people, as opposed to big business and special interest groups.  They seem to forget, we put them in office, and we can remove them.  Wannabe president, Nancy Pelosi, does not impress me at all.

There are a list of things that Bush has done that I don't agree with at all, but I have much more respect for him than I do the House and Senate. The grades I would give are much different than the polls:

I would give President Bush about an 80%. My big points of disagreement would be illegal immigration, NAFTA, border control, his Amero efforts, and bowing to some global agendas. On the other side of the coin, President Bush has served during one of the most difficult times in history, and I think that many of the things he tried to do were completely correct. He certainly didn't get the support he deserved, and he's been unfairly demonized at every opportunity by the liberals and left media.

I would give the House and Senate about a 20%, and I think that's being generous. The overall thought is they are spineless wimps and worried more about polls that standing up and doing what's right for the country. I think that their general legacy will involve being bought by special interest groups and ignoring the will of the people.

I agree, and yes, you are being generous.    I have never seen anything close to this level of pandering and deceit.  I will not be voting along party lines, I will vote according to the issues.  Anyone who votes for amnesty will not get my vote.  Contrary to what they may believe, many politicians who support the amnesty bill will find themselves in the unemployment line.  I am not anti-immigration, I am anti-illegal immigration.  There is a huge difference, and 'race' is irrelevant.  The mainstream media, special interest groups and some 'Christian' ministries are using deceitful propaganda in an attempt to further their selfish agendas.  I highly resent having a minister equate anti-illegal immigration as being in opposition to Jesus.  It is untrue, and a despicable exploitation of our Lord.

I must say that I feel the same way you do, and I agree completely. I want our laws enforced and our borders secured before it's too late. Those who are ignoring our already written laws and refusing to enforce them should be charged with criminal offenses, neglect of duty, and/or fired. The people have already spoken on this matter many times, and nothing has changed except disregard and disrespect for the laws we have already passed.

Our law makers can't change these laws already on the books because they already know that the people won't stand for that. There is growing support for forcing our government to do these neglected duties. Those who refuse can be tossed out of office right now - not at the next election. It is not a matter of choice to enforce or not enforce the laws of the people, rather an obligation and duty to enforce these laws. I would do more than guess that there is a conspiracy to ignore the laws of the people, and we have prison space for these folks.

Those who don't like our immigration laws can either properly use the system to get them changed or leave this country. It really is just as simple as this. Needing new laws is just "hocus-pocus". Enforcement of already existing laws is the problem, and they should be enforced completely, regardless of who likes it or not.

SO, when should this be DONE AND COMPLETE?

NO LATER THAN 1950!  YES - 1950 is CORRECT! - Retroactive! It makes absolutely no difference at all that many people have been in constant violation of our laws for over 50 years. ALL of them should be given a choice of being tried for criminal offenses, paying fines, serving time, and being deported - OR voluntarily being deported immediately without prosecution.
