I read abit about it but I don't fully understand what it is. Is it still necessary?

Umm...No!

1Co 7:18  Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
1Co 7:19  Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

A read of the book of Galatians might also be in order.

Blessings!

You're welcome!

Just for a little brief background...

Circumcision was a command given by God to Abraham and his offspring as token of the Covenant between him/Israel and God.  (Gen 17:11)

Its considered law, and all Jewish males had to keep this.  Now we are under a new blood covenant, whereby our Hearts are circumcised (spiritually), and we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.

I see nothing wrong with newly born boys being circumcised for hygienic reasons should the parents and doctor decide so.  However, It adds absolutely no favor whatsoever to our spiritual standing with God.  Our justification is either in Christ works on the Cross alone, or we're not justified at all.

This is why Paul said, if you already are physically circumcised when you receive Christ, stay that way...if your not, Stay that way too.  its of no benefit either way spiritually.

Hope that helps!

Blessings!

Amen! Circumcision and other such things that fell under the law were but a shadow of the things to come. Those that are in Christ Jesus are now under grace.

Gal 3:23  But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Gal 3:24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal 3:25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Gal 5:18  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

I believe that it is still required.

Rom 2:29      But he [is] a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not of men, but of God.

Not physical circumcision but a circumcision of the heart instead.
Christ taught this also back in the days of Moses.

Deu 10:16      Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.
Deu 30:6    And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
Jer 4:4    Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench [it], because of the evil of your doings.

Hi barelahh,

Precisely correct. This is what I meant by a shadow of the things to come.
