IRAN-ARMENIA GAS PIPELINE OPENED

[01:26 pm] 19 March, 2007

The Iran-Armenia gas pipeline was inaugurated in the settlement of Agarak at the Armenian-Iranian border March 19. Armenian President Robert Kocharian and Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took part in the solemn opening ceremony.

1.1 milliard gas will be transferred to Armenia via the pipeline for the first period. In 2019 the gas will be increased to the magnitude of 2.3 milliard cubic meters.

By the way, Armenia is to supply Iran with 3KW energy per one cubic meter gas.

Reminder; the construction works of the gas pipeline are not completed yet. 197 km pipeline will be laid in the cities of Qajaran, Sisian, Djermouk and Ararat to strengthen the gas supply.

Armenia needs $35 million to lay 40km section of the Meghry-Qajaran pipeline. 80% of the required sum has been allotted by the Iran bank.

To note, the official opening of the Iran-Armenia pipeline has already been canceled. It was scheduled on December 1, 2006.
