WEATHER WARNING Cold front on the way

Kansas City could get its first taste — or maybe “slap” is a better word — of winter weather today, when freezing rain and drizzle are expected.

A winter storm watch will take effect this afternoon and run through late tonight, the National Weather Service said. Thunderstorms are possible this morning, and temperatures will drop below freezing — possibly by noon.

The good news, senior forecaster Mike July said, is that if the cold front keeps moving quickly, the area might have less accumulation.

The high temperature forecast for Thursday is 30 degrees. The thermometer should rise above freezing on Friday, though.

This is a weather advisory for Kansas City but it is one that is coming to much of the mid-west today and tomorrow. It is expected to hit my area tonight and tomorrow.
