Actress Jane Wyatt Of 'Father Knows Best' Dies

October 23, 2006

LOS ANGELES -- Jane Wyatt, the serene actress who played one of TV's favorite moms on "Father Knows Best," has died, according to her publicist.

Wyatt was 96.

The actress died Friday in her sleep of natural causes at her home in Bel-Air, Calif.

Wyatt had a successful film career in the 1930s and '40s, notably  in 1937's "Lost Horizon."

But it was her years as Robert Young's TV wife, Margaret Anderson, on "Father Knows Best," that brought lasting fame.

Wyatt also became known to "Star Trek" fans as Amanda, the human mother of the half-Vulcan Mr. Spock.

:'(This is truly sad as this was one of the decent T.V shows from yesteryear. I enjoy watching Father Knows Best on T.V. land when ever they show it. Cry

Hello Rev. Belch,

Those were the days when nearly everything on television was clean, and there were very strict laws about what could or could not be shown.

YES - I remember Father Knows Best and many other clean and wholesome shows that the entire family could watch. Now someone needs the many choices of cable or satellite to find clean and decent channels to watch.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Hello Rev. Belch,

I was just chuckling a little bit, thinking about how TVland is close to the children's channels. So, if you remember an old show too well, you can switch a couple of channels, watch Big Bird and Ernie and stay out of trouble.   Cheesy

The old cartoons are in the same area. YES, I do watch the old cartoons every now and then. What's Up Doc?   Grin

Season 1 (April 1st released) & 2 (Nov release date) have been created by Shout Factory.
If today's indusstry won't produce wholesome material we need more of those shows available on DVD.

I started a petition asking Shout Factory to create ALL Father Knows Best episodes as well as a special project by Billy Gray on the social responsabilities of the industry and actors alike. As most know, Billy has long said he regretted being a part of the show once he was grown and his project DVDs will explain why. While chatting in email with Billy he mentioned he had made this proposal to Shout Factory so I suggested this petition would be easier to get to people than for them to individually write Shout! Factory. Billy said it's a "great idea, go for it". So, I did :-)

Your support is needed to show Shout! Factory there is enough interest to go ahead with the project.
