Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act

The leader of a pro-life, pro-family group in Washington, DC, is applauding a congressman for bringing back a measure designed to force abortionists to give women crucial information about their unborn child. Although Congress has run out of time to vote on it this session, Representative Chris Smith (Rep.-NJ) has reintroduced the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act. The legislation requires abortionists to notify their patients that an unborn child as young as 20 weeks in the womb experiences pain during the process of being killed. Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America says fetal pain is something most mothers do not take into consideration -- but if this bill becomes law, she says they would no longer be able to ignore it. "Many people are now aware that unborn children do feel pain, that they are human beings -- and women should be given that full information before they undergo an abortion on a baby that is 20 weeks old or older," says Wright. "This falls clearly under the concept of informed consent, that a medical procedure should not be done on anybody until they have been given full information." Wright says no mother with a heart would put her baby through such horrible pain if she had full, accurate information about what the child feels.
