I have just read a website that puts forward the idea that Moses was, of all things, an Egyptian. They claim to put forward some evidence, but I am not qualified to make a judgement on how good this evidence is; what astounds me however, is the sheer number of claims, counterclaims and utter nonsense that continually swirls around religion.

‘Mose’ is an Egyptian word. It means child. So you get RaMose, (literally, Ra has given a child), now usually written Ramses by Western scholars. Similarly ThutMose, now usually written Thutmes. Originally the man now known to the world as Moses would have been called Something-mose, or Something-mes. The first part of his name has been lost.
Then there’s Aaron, Moses brother. Some scholars argue it’s a version of the Hebrew word Arron, meaning Ark. But its not pronounced like that and pronunciation really matters in languages that were written without vowels. I believe the most likely source for the name is a combination of the two Egyptian words, Ra (God of the Sun) and On (the Egyptian name for the town of Heliopolis), the centre of Ra worship in ancient Egypt. His name was probably Raon......This sounds plausible and academic, but for all we know, it could be hogwash.

The word Moses may be egyptian, but Moses the man, was of the tribe of Levi, and therefore an Israelite.
Note the passage of scripture at:
Ex 2
2:1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

Why listen to the worlds explanantion of who and what Biblical characters, are or are not...
If ever you desire to know anything of them, read it in the Bible, you will get the account first hand.
