The Lord's Apprentice

1 Samuel 3: 3 - 5 "The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.  Then the Lord called Samuel.  Samuel answered, "Here I am." And he ran to Eli and said, " Here I am; you called me."

Note:  Eli was very old at this time.  1 Samuel 2: 22 Now eli, who was very old...........
1 Samuel 3: 2 One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see......................

The Lord called Samuel three times before Eli realized it was the Lord.  This gives me a great perspective on what the voice of our Lord must have been liked when He called to Samuel.  Samuel heard the voice and assumed it was Eli.  What does the voice of an elderly man sound like?  I often associate it with a voice that is calm, soft, yet filled with wisdom.  So many times I get caught up in other scripture stating the power of the voice of God that I often forget just how calm and nurturing his voice can be.  I think this is a great example.

Blessings to you all!
