Algeria-Belkhadem-Plots
Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem in a meeting with the visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Monday underlined Iran's crucial role in promotion of regional security.
Belkhadem said that foreign enemies have drawn up new plots to stir up agitation and clashes among regional states within the framework of the new Middle East plan, adding that Iran's role in preventing such moves is quite decisive and important.
He underlined Iran's right to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as well as that of other countries and the region, and said that Algeria's approach to the issue is quite clear.
"We believe that a selective approach to the issue is
unacceptable and international agreements on nuclear disarmament should also be applicable to the countries currently possessing such weapons.
"Besides, the NPT member states should be entitled to peaceful use of nuclear energy," he added.
Condemning the brutal aggressions of the Zionist regime on Lebanon, the Algerian prime minister said that Israel's moves take place according to a preplanned program and that they have never been seeking peace and tranquility in the region.
"The enemies intended to create chaos in the region, but did not succeed. They should not be allowed to pursue their aggressive goals under the cover of the United Nations Security Council resolution," he added.
For his part, Mottaki underlined Iran's interest in expansion of relations with the brotherly country of Algeria and briefed the Algerian prime minister on Iran's principled approach to regional and global issues.
At the meeting, both sides urged the need to expand bilateral relations in various dimensions.
Mottaki arrived in the Algerian capital Sunday night to hold talks with senior Algerian officials.
Mottaki, who heads a high-ranking political delegation in this visit, arrived in Algiers on the fourth round of a regional tour after winding up a visit to Egypt.
He is expected to hand over a message from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
Mottaki's current regional tour began with a visit to Turkey on Friday. From Turkey he proceeded to the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and from there to the Egyptian capital Cairo.
