This one's a big old hanging curve ball . . . too easy NOT to hit!

Yesterday (Saturday, July 15) marked the first full calendar day of Major League Baseball games in which no leads were "saved" (by someone coming from the bullpen).  Late inning heroics, home runs, walk-off wins . . . no one coming from the pen succeeded yesterday.  That's the first time that's happened since 1978.

You can see where this is going.

In the Game of Life . . .
Top of the 9th . . .
Home team in trouble (score doesn't matter) . . .
Stands emptying, hardly anyone left to cheer us on . . .

The Manager gets on the bullpen phone and calls for the Closer.

The Savior.

He not only knows how to Save, but He Sacrifices in the winning run Himself.
