Praying in the Holy Ghost

Jude 1:20. "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,....."

Jude tells them that are made holy by God and preserved in Jesus Christ, Jude 1:1, that they can build themselves up on their most holy faith by praying and doing so in the Holy Ghost.

Any thoughts on how such, praying in the Holy Ghost, is accomplished today by those in Christ?

Here's a way to know what the Word means here: What is the opposite of the verse?Praying in a carnal spirit.......For example:

making a 'Xmas shopping list" or 'Gimme prayers'~

cutting "deals" with God~

mumbling a memorized "prayer"~

praying for show, whether in public or private~

heavy repetition of key words, as if God is hard of hearing~

prayers that lecture God or 'clue Him in' on what you have been doing (normally just good clues!)

These are certainly not praying in or by the Holy Spirit!!

Yes those would seem to be more things of a carnel nature and not so concerned with the spiritual.

God tells us of certain things to be prayed for. Jesus gives us an example in the prayer he gives to the apostles when they ask, "teach us to pray". The things God wants in prayer in the Holy Ghost would be things of prayer revealed through His Spirit . A good study and search of the Bible would probably reveal more of the things God would require of prayer to be such that it is in His Holy Ghost.

I thank you so much for your thought on praying in the Holy Ghost. It reveals that God is not so complicated and hard to understand when we have one another to aid in understanding. Your thought has helped me come to a better understanding of this praying in the Holy Ghost. The same application can be applied to the whole Christian life. That of in the Spirit rather than carnel. That is what those called out of the world and unto the holiness of God found in Jesus Christ is all about.

You are more than welcome, ollie. I agree: the true Gospel is simplicity Itself, yet theologians through all recorded time have complicated it beyond recognition. It never ceases to amaze me how angry and unchristian some become when  the simple Gospel is presented. Folks revere the "traditions of men" while wrapped in stained glass robes of churchianity.

Bible prayer is light years distance from what most christians think it is; pouring out one's heart to God is good, but not waiting for His answers, not heeding His clear Instructions in His Word, not asking Him to change their character and heart to be like His, not just at the new birth, but daily, ...all these things are vastly more important than merely talking at Jesus.

Could that be because many folks claiming Christ are that in name only and their lives still refect that they have not been truly called out of the world and in to the sanctification and seperation unto God that Jesus Christ gives.

Folks revere the "traditions of men" while wrapped in stained glass robes of churchianity.

Worldly religion, not of God and His Christ. Not walking in the Spirit.

God has revealed how to pray, how often to pray, and for what should be prayed.  To do it in the Holy Ghost one must be walking in the Spirit, having rejected and turned from the flesh and to the things of the Spirit through Jesus Christ.
