DW, I like my answer which somewhat coincides with your & so we'll stick with that one
PR I bet you never had to sing it as much as I have.
Once I even tried to say the abc's to my granddaughter I left out the & and she 'corrected' me

I don't know, I wouldn't argue that but with 10 neices/nephews that I helped raise, 3 of my own, and 5 grandkids plus grand neices/nephews along with a whole lot of neighbor kids, I know I have sang it a whole lot. That and Jesus Loves Me.
