Measure could have an effect on textbooks sold across the nation

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - The California state Senate will consider a bill that would require schools to teach students about the contributions gays and lesbians have made to society — an effort that supporters say is an attempt to battle discrimination and opponents say is designed to use the classroom to get children to embrace homosexuality.

The bill, which was passed by a Senate committee Tuesday, would require schools to buy textbooks "accurately" portraying "the sexual diversity of our society."

It could require students hear history lessons on "the contributions of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America."

Although it's a California bill, it could have far-reaching implications, not only by setting a precedent but also because California is the nation's largest textbook buyer and, as such, often sets the standards for publishers who sell nationwide.

The bill also could bring sex wars roaring back into state politics in an election year in which efforts to roll back gay civil rights had begun to slow.

"We're totally opposed to inserting sexual orientation into textbooks in our schools," said Karen England, executive director of the public policy group Capital Resource Institute, which believes teachings about sexual orientation should be left up to parents.

"This is more than just accepting it, it's forcing our kids to embrace it, almost celebrate it," England said. "This is not about discrimination. California is one of the most friendly gay, lesbian and transgender states in the nation."

The bill's author, state Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, rejects the criticism:

"We've been working since 1995 to try to improve the climate in schools for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender kids, as well as those kids who are just thought to be gay, because there is an enormous amount of harassment and discrimination at stake."

The measure expands on the existing state education code that already requires inclusion in the curriculum of the historical role and contributions of members of ethnic and cultural groups.

Sodomy Education May Be Mandated in California Public Schools

A bill pending in the California State Senate would require that textbooks purchased by the California education bureaucracy contain information about the sexual deviance of some historical figures:

Sacramento, CA – A bill before California State Senate that would require California schools to teach students about the contributions gay people have made to society is an essential step toward ending the battle of homophobia, supporters say.

A Senate committee passed the bill Thursday, which would require schools to buy textbooks “accurately” portraying “the sexual diversity of our society."

Additionally, students would learn of the contributions LGBT people have made to the social development of California and the United States of America.

Though the bill is strictly intended for California, it could have far-reaching implications. As the nation’s largest sate and largest textbook buyer, California often sets the standards for publishers who sell nationwide.

But as expected, reaction to the bill is mixed, with some arguing that the issue of sexual orientation has no place in the classroom, according to reports by the Associated Press.

“We're totally opposed to inserting sexual orientation into textbooks in our schools,” Karen England, executive director of the public-policy group Capital Resource Institute, told the Associated Press. “This is more than just accepting it, it's forcing our kids to embrace it, almost celebrate it.

Amen to that! What only a couple decades ago would have been considered ludicrous by nearly everyone -- teaching about the sexual deviance of historical figures -- is now close to becoming law in California.

As far as “accurately” portraying “the sexual diversity of our society.", whether or not a person is a sexual deviant has no bearing on what they may or may not have accomplished of historical significance. Last time I checked, school was supposed to be all about reading, math, science and history, not "sexual diversity", which is leftist doublespeak for sexual deviance. Does it really matter that George Washington liked girls or that Abraham Lincoln may have liked guys? These facts and conjecture are of no historical significance whatsoever.

The one thing of significance this legislation DOES do is throw the door the sexual deviants now have their foot in wide open to celebrate the fact of their deviance in the public schools under the guise of "education" and that is exactly the point:

In contrast, the bill's author, Democratic Sen. Sheila Kuehl, rejects the criticism.

“We've been working since 1995 to try to improve the climate in schools for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender kids, as well as those kids who are just thought to be gay, because there is an enormous amount of harassment and discrimination at stake,” she said.

Kuehl says research indicates that the inclusion of a balanced and accurate gay history in school points might help LGBT students to do better in school and be less at risk for suicide, truancy or drug and alcohol abuse.

The idea that there is such a thing as "gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans-gender kids" is a farce. There are a whole bunch of sexually conflicted teens that are being worked over by the sodomy lobby and their willing accomplices and this legislation simply furthers their goals. Finally, if we're going to tell the story of "gay history", let's tell the whole story: The story of how decadence and corruption of all kinds, including rampant sodomy, precipitated the downfall of previous great civilizations.
