to be synonymous with praying for the Lord's return.

I do not believe that the Bible teaches, nor current events and history reveal, that there will ever be peace there until that event occurs.

Is my reasoning faulty?

No I don't but I also don't pray for peace in Jerusalem.  It would be like praying that there be no tribulation.  Not going to change regardless of our prayers.  It's writen and done, God has said it and it is so.

So, you would equate this prayer as being about the same as as praying that your flight be not on the sabbath, etc.?

I'm going to say no for the simple fact that we don't know when he is coming but we do know when there will be peace in Jerusalem.  Unless I am misunderstanding something.  I am quite tired right now anyway.
