Oklahoma Howdy to All,

I'm sorry to say that I live about 1 mile within the city limits, so I'm suburban.

I really want a small place in the country to call home. My kids are raised and gone, so paying a few more bills off may make that possible.

I told my wife that we didn't even need electricity. I mentioned we could get a DC powered television and just pedal a generator when we wanted to watch. Further, I mentioned we really didn't need a car and pay insurance. She told me to write and let her know how I was doing.

 Grin

In Christ,

BEP I think our wives came from the same mold, cause that is close to what my wife said a few months ago.

I unfortunatly live in town, but we are looking for our first house outside of town, or at least a small town. Abilene is just to big 200,000 ish. I grew up outside of a 900 people town with one blinking traffic light. It was so quiet, and you knew your neighbors. We haven't been able to buy a house of our own because of my job. Being a military familiy we move around a whole lot. Well it doesn't seem like we will be moving around much now. We are stationed at one of the "Black hole bases". Once you get stationed here it is hard to relocate.

In body I live in a city, in spirit I live in the country.

Oklahoma Howdy to Coyote,

My wife said "fine" to the smaller house and 3 to 5 acres of wooded land. However, she balked and demanded running water, indoor plumbing, electricity, telephone, and all the trimmings.   Cheesy

I think that we have our wives spoiled.  Cheesy

In Christ,

Grin You see? If it weren't for the wisdom of women, we'd all be living in caves and eating bugs! lol

Well caves stay cool, and crickets are pleasantly crunchy. A tip on eating crickets pull the legs off if you try to swallow them whole cause they try to crawl back out. Or you can just cruch them and all is well. Wink

Caves build up carbon monoxide - and besides, everyone knows worms have more protein.

(P.S. speaking of worms)...Did anyone go through the same Y2K stuff we did? We still have a couple years' worth of grain in our basement, and the giant rabbits we'd planned to breed and butcher if times got tough...and all the information on surviving if we had nothing else to eat but bugs...did you know the most recommended way to eat worms is put them in kool-aid and drink them? (okay - worms are one thing. But worms in kool-aid?)

By the way, Coyote - forget your cricket-eating methods. Just cover the little creeps in chocolate, it solves a lot and it tastes better.

Grin Isn't it funny how everyone would like to live in a rural area, away from towns and traffic and the like...I think that's what happened, though, when towns were invented!! Everyone said, "Hey, that's a great spot, no neighbors for miles, no shopping malls, just clean, fresh country..." And then they all moved to the country, and made it a city.  Tongue

We moved to one of the few places in our town that was "rural-ish". I guess everybody else liked the spot too, 'cause now we have three neighbors in (literally) our back yard, two in front of us, and more to come...and now a real estate man moved in next door, so we'll have city traffic, too!! lol
