HELP..............SOMEONE.............HELP

About 4 or 5 weeks ago someone posted something about women not obeying OT mandates, expecially the one about women's clothing.  Women are not supposed to wear "parted garments."  Where is this found in the bible?  It must be either from the original 1611 KJV or one of the bibles older than the KJV.

OK now, wonder what bible he quoted from?  That was a longer time than I thought, May 30th...........more like 8 weeks ago.

Thanks for finding it!! Smiley

I used the words "parted garments" in the search and used 360 in the days.

Is this what you are looking for?

Deuteronomy 22:11  "garment if divers sorts, as of woollen and linen"
the Hebrew "sha'atnez" is talking about cloth of linen and wool carded and spun together.  Very Orthodox Jews will only wear clothing made of fabric that is 100% wool, 100% cotton, 100% linen, 100% silk, 100% polyester, etc.  50/50 polyester/cotton will not due.

Deut 22:5  "A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this."

In any case, for Orthodox Jews, the women are always seen wearing long skirts and feminine apparel.  The men wear pants and masculine apparel.  This would also help in making sure some did not become ritually unclean by wearing their menstruating female relative's clothing.  As well as clearing up issues with cross dressing and sexual roles.

It may also be noted that up until the past century, most cultures that embraced Christianity or Judaism had distinct types of clothing worn by each sex respectively.

Hi All,

Great topic!  I've always sort of wondered about this topic, so maybe someone can answer my questions on this topic.

The passages that were listed in this thread from Deut. are obviously very old, and are really similar to the sorts of laws set-out in books like leviticus.

Now, I've heard some people say that these rules do not apply to christians, as ours is the new covenant, in the post-Christ era, but it seems as though some christians still like to quote this section of the bible to prove certain points.  How does that work?

This is a question I've been wracking my brain over for quite some time now, and so I'm glad someone else is thinking about it too!

cheers,

Jimmy
