It seems my prebuilt system is dying from an overworked or flakey power supply.   It starts shutting off at will during bootup, or any other time for that matter.   As of late I have been having to log onto to CU using the laptop.   Embarrassed

Gonna purchase a PSU this weekend at bestbuy and see if that helps....if not I may be going the route that Allinall took.....

Dude, I might be getting a Dell?   Cheesy

nOoOoOoOoOoOoOo!!!
they're spreading! ahhhhh!
what exactly is the other one doing?
Also if you are going to get a new power supply just make sure it will actually fit first. because if it's a pre-built system they can have some pretty woked up sizes. also what wattage are you thinking of getting for your psu?

PSU purchased.  Havent had any problems since.....its an ATX tower btw...fits like a glove.

You can rest easy about the Dell too..lol   I found a AMD 2600 motherboard/cpu at frys for about 59 bucks.  I think I'm gonna purchase this with some ddr memory and a better hard drive and swap the rest out of my current tower.

Having built a few pc's myself I think this will be a bit cheaper.

Grace and Peace!

Heh. Sorry about the nit-picking but I think you mean a socket A motherboard Tongue
Socket A is the standard Athlon/Athlon XP socket. My next computer is gonna be a socket 939 though. The NEW socket for the 64-bit CPUs Cheesy

-Ralf

P.S. Don't suppose you can remember what wattage your PSU is?

LOL....I would remind you this is a Christian forum, so please try to watch the short hand cursing ....pretty please? Wink

Actually, bestbuy sells them for 60 bucks.  Frys had one for 15 dollars (best I've seen), but it was a bit of a drive to get there (i'm out in the boonies).   29 bucks was not a big deal and location convenient.  Not used, it was brand new.

yeah I was about to go back and edit it out or at least apologies for my swearing in acronyms. Tongue

$15 is nice.. but for $60 I'd expect to be able to get a 500 watt PSU..
You didn't answer my question before though. the one about what happened to your old PSU

OH....I thought I did on the first post.   My pc would just power off intermittently for no apparent reason.   I thought at first it might be software related, but after some research I figured it had to be the PSU.   So far I havent seen the problem, and its been two days now.

Nope never got that bad.  It would just power off, sometimes during boot up, or while scrolling a web page....or even just moving the mouse...lol

So far so good.

hmmm well I'm suprised my PSU survived for so long. My computer used to be on 24/7 so it went under a LOT of stress.

My graphics card fans coul do with another oiling. same with my CPU fan.

Also before you throw out your old PSU. Take the fan out of it. it should be ok and with a bit of oiling then it's fine. if you need to cut the wires off like I did you can still get a new end for the power. trust me. it works Cheesy

I hear ya dude....I have about 4 frankenstines sitting around the house as it is.   None had a high enough PSU wattage to replace the bad one though.   I also have a video card with a fan.....G-force 3, 128 megs.   Nice card!
