1. Folk- the Old School stuff (I use school to differentiate from these new rock and rap hybrids that make ones ears bleed) Such as the Dubliners, Yonder Mountain Strings, Phish, the Irish Rovers, Bob Dylan, the Country Gentlemen, the Grateful Dead, Flatt and Scruggs, etc.
2. Classical- Chamber, Chanting, anything without Brass! Tallis and Bach and at the top of my list
3. Alternative Rock- Such as David Matthews band, Hootie and Blowfish.
Lonestar is an awesome band. They are great musicians, and they can tab out some sweet lyrics, too. “My front Porch looking it” and “Unusually Unusual” and “Already there.” Good, sentimental songs, without the usual over sentimentality of Country.
Big Daddy Weave? Who is that?

Country – the new guy Josh Turner "Long Black Train".
I like Toby Keith’s patriotic country songs.
I really miss Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Jimmy Dean.
I really miss Jim Croce.
Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” may have been one of the greatest (secular) albums ever made.
No one could sing gospel like Elvis.
Waylon & Willie and the Outlaws
ZZ Top - the old albums.
Leonard Skynard (pre-plane crash)
Johnny Cash

Judgenot, I am offended GREATLY by your post! How could you? You put St. Johnny Cash at the END!?
Shame, Shame
“Long black Train” is a good song. See, that is what I’m talking about. You don’t have to sing “Christian music” if you are a Christian who plays music. Country stars understand this. I think Country stars are more Christian then these “Christian” artist will EVER be. The Christian Artist try to hard, and they fail.
So, anyone else? What styles does the rest of the board listen to?

Adult Alternative -- Toad the Wet Sprocket is the greatest band ever. Followed very closely by The Goo Goo Dolls.

Judgenot...ahhh, someone after my own heart (musically)! You named off most of my favorites, too!!! I especially agree with the fact that nobody sings Gospel like Elvis!

I ditto that. I was in middle school when GooGoo was in their prime in the mainstream. Really creaping up on us, isn't it? Next thing you know, the songs we jammed to after class our Senior year will be on the oldies!
I wonder when they will start making "Classic Rap" station. We have classic rock, why not?*shivers* that will be strange. I just can't see "Make 'um go Uhhh" classic anything...

Maybe calling The Goo Goo Dolls "adult" alternative might be going a little far...but Toad definitely is.

Yup! Like that Lonestar meself I do! Course my favorite country artist currently is Alan Jackson. As for Big Daddy Weave, they are relatively new (I think) and they seem sorta ecclectic to me in their sound. They've got a good acoustic sound, and can really rock it if they want! Which I like...they also have a jazzy feel sometimes. Pretty good, with
great
lyrics. Highly recommendable.
