I'm reading:
Tested by Fire: The Fruit of Suffering in the Lives of John Bunyan, William Cowper and David Brainerd by John Piper at the moment.
I've never read the Pilgrim's Progress

I have a copy though, but I took against Bunyan years ago. I've read Lewis' Pilgrim's Regress though.
May I suggest that you read Bunyan, Broken.  After all he has a rather long established record.  Maybe you will then be "mended."   It is rather like saying you read "Herald Tribune" when one is asked to read " New York Times"

  MODERN ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Now let me praise the keeper of Heaven's kingdom,
The might of the Creator, and his thought,
The work of the Father of glory, how each of wonders
The Eternal Lord established in the beginning.
He first created for the sons of men
Heaven as a roof, the holy Creator,
Then Middle-earth the keeper of mankind,
The Eternal Lord, afterwards made,
The earth for men, the Almighty Lord.
