Applying to replace the late Clara Peller?  Tongue

"Clara Peller - Gray-haired, four-foot, eleven-inch octogenarian spokeswoman for Wendy's played a crusty old lady who slapped the counters of neighborhood hamburger joints and loudly asked the probing question "Where's the Beef!", which implied that the only place in town where Ms.Pellar could get a hamburger with an ample portion of "beef" was at Wendy's. Unfortunately, when Clara appeared in a Prego Plus Spaghetti sauce commercial saying "I found it!" Wendy's fired her saying "Clara can find the beef only in one place, and that is Wendy's"

Well, that was a successful advertizing campaign if ever I saw one! That was in the mid eighties, and all you have to do is say the phrase, and everyone knows what it is in reference to. I'd say that's pretty good. I wonder if the guy who came up with it is rich today. I'm fascinated with advertizing campaigns and advertizing wonders. Like the pet rock, for example. How on God's green earth do you sell a rock??? And make a fad of it and get rich doing it? But they did it.

And Outhouse Springs water. An outdoor advertizing campaign wanted to prove the effectiveness of outdoor advertizing (billboards) and started advertizing a fake product called Outhouse Springs Water. They had slogans like, "Truly tasteless water!" and, "We're not number two, we're number one!" And so many people wanted to know about the product that they actually began making it and selling it at Piggly Wiggly. If that isn't a marketing wonder, I don't know what is.

The whole story:

Sinereheart, I know-isn't that awful?? And hilarious. That's why I'm endlessly fascinated by these marketing wonders and the psychology behind them. It's actually inspiring in a way, that in these tough times with the recession, that people are still wealthy enough to buy (and sell) bottles of fake drinking pee! They sky is the limit friends. The world is our oyster. We could probably nail worn-out shoes to a varnished board and call it "Signs of the Times" and sell it for $1,ooo as art. Hey, someone did get rich ptting rocks in boxes and calling them pets, and all of America bought it-literally.

Shylynne, I still have my pet rock! I received it for a birthday present! Smiley

bottles of fake drinking pee!

I dont even wanna ask if that was a typo LOL

I`m more facinated by the psychological  process that goes on/or rather does`nt go on in them minds of peeps who buy into this stuff  Undecided

mmmmmmmnn Wendy`s ...I`d happily replace Clara, and would`nt even need a makeover to do it  Grin

Did this get turned into a KICK  HEALTHY EATING HABITS thread?  Embarrassed

Shylynne, that 's the whole idea behind Outhouse Springs. It was originally a fake advertizing campaign designed to prove the effectiveness of billboards, but so many people inquired, they started making the product, which of course is nothing more than water, which, according to the picture at the website, is yellow. But those slogans Sincereheart posted are from the site, showing the ridiculous ads they used to sell it. I can't believe it! But the hope is, if people can actually sell that stuff, anyone can go into business selling anything. As long as they do it right. That's the key, I guess.
