Being a user of Firefox, this is the most serious exploit that i have seen concerning Firefox. But the good news is that it can be worked around and i am sure that very soon a permanent fix will be avaliable.

Thank you sincerely for the information. I think you might have saved a lot of Firefox users some misery, including me.

I made a recent visit to the main Firefox site, and I saw a notice of a security concern.  HOWEVER, they didn't explain it, and I now wonder why.

If I read the information you provided correctly, the main problem is using automatic updates for extensions and themes for Firefox. I assume that someone exploited the source of the updates, thus the advisory in your information to disable sites from installing software. It would have been nice to have these details on the main Firefox page.

You are both so welcomed. I think that as the Firefox browser becomes more popular, we will find more critical vulnerabilitys coming to light. But for me, this is still the best browser and within a few days, this will be patched.

I have changed my security settings for now but i'm not to fond of disabling Javascripting as it stops certain web sites loading, but when that happens, its easy to quickly change back to allow. Here are my current settings

Knew it wouldn't take long. The exploits have been fixed but means having to install firefox version 1.0.4. But that isn't any problem. Stay safe.

Thanks again. Your post was very timely. I got 1.04 hot off the presses, right before I left for our family gathering. I plan to check for upgrades on a regular basis and get any extensions of themes ONLY from the official site.
