Well, besides the fact that millions of people's lives have miraculously been changed, and we have a real personal relationship with Almighty God - there is actually more corroborative non-Biblical evidence for the Holy Bible than there is for any other great book of antiquity.
There is not a single example of any Biblical account, which has been legitimately refuted, or shown to be in error through any archaeological or historical work. That in itself is miraculous, and cannot be said of any other factual historical account from antiquity.
Other corroborative evidence can be found through comparing Biblical accounts to, for example, evolutionary science. The Bible says God created all life and evolutionary scientists tell us all life is the result of happy, fluke accidents. That life began (somehow) unaided, and from the earliest "simple" single celled organisms, and through a series of graduated transitional changes, we have all the various life forms we observe today. That is ludicrous. There is absolutely zero fossil proof to back up evolution, and the world's leading evolutionary scientists are beginning to jump ship and desperately search for any other explanation, because the fossil record actually fits perfectly with God’s account in this 6,000 year old book, and they can not have that!

Short answer from a non-historical, non-scientific, non-hype, non-partisan, non-carewhatanybodyelsethinks point of view; I know the Bible is true because I feel it in my heart as I read it. It makes me feel good!
Besides that, I’m a parent. I can spot a lie a week away.
The Bible is absolute truth. Absolutely. Nothing in the Bible has ever been proven otherwise. Yet there are those who keep searching...
Ya know - your search could be over. All that's necessary is believing He is who He says He is, and that He did what He says He did, and telling Him you want to follow Him. You can do that all by yourself, with no one else around – it’s a private deal between you and the Lord.
The rest is pretty much automatic; read, pray, fellowship and reap the rewards of His unconditional love. You’ll be returning His love in no time!
Such a wonderful thing; eternal LIFE!

I know that the Holy Bible is true because it does not make Jesus in danger of the judgement for sin in Matthew 5:22 like the modern fake Bibles do.Plus a bevy of others just as terible.

Truly, in the end the only thing that makes the bible "true" is faith. This will sound silly to those without it and a good reason "not to believe".
The fact of the matter is unless you are a born again, washed in the blood believer, the bible will not mean much to you. Unless the Lord opens your heart up to accept the truths contained there in, you will not believe.
I can tell you I used to war against it. It wasn't until I had the gal to read the word in an attempt to refute it that the Lord brought conviction upon my heart. This testimony alone has baffled my unbelieving friends and alas they still don't get it. They all still know that there is something "different" about me though.

The bible has been around for a very long time.
Here is an illustration:
When a tree is just sprouting do we really need to label it so we know what it is?
Not really...because as time passes it grows and we see the leaves and the fruit it bears. So by this we know what the tree is. This is how the trees are identified.
Likewise we know the bible for what it is as it has grown and we have seen the fruits of it. The bible has been the same and has never changed...and it is very old and still used. IT has stood the test of time and unlike other things it has never had to be 'relabeled' so that men would know what it is.
You asked what are we basing the truth of the bible on? Do you believe in your history books? You believe in them. And what about those books that tell you how to do things? Those do-it-yourself-books? You believe in them when you do what it says and it becomes true.
So what are we basing the truth of the bible on? I tell you the truth! We EXPERIENCE IT! We use these words and they become our life. These are words of reality; these are words of spirit and life. And without the Holy Spirit you cannot experience them. If you want to find the truth and the meaning of the words just spoken to you, you will have to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...
It is an open invitation and the free gift of God. You may not know it now nor understand it later if you do accept Christ...but God will come and dwell in you. And He will guide you into all truths. It will be a start of a new thing; you will be a new creature. And the first thing you need is faith.
How to receive Jesus Christ...
http://forums.christiansunite.com/index.php?board=6;action=display;threadid=5023
and pray...
Dear Lord, I know I’m a sinner. I know that I don’t deserve what you did for me on the cross. I ask you to forgive for my sins. I ask that you would come into my life right now dear Lord. Change me Lord. Make me what you want me to be. Fill that void in my life that is missing, and make me whole. I commit my life to you dear God. I accept Jesus Christ into my life this very moment, and believe that He died for my sins. Thank you dear Lord for hearing my prayer, and coming into my heart. Amen!

Good answers, one and all. Best answer I've seen thus far.

Let me also just add this. I know because He tells me so:
Quote
The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the LORD is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the LORD are true,
and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-11
And...
Quote
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
God's word is:
Perfect
Sure
Right
Pure
True
Righteous
Better than Gold
Sweeter than Honey
Profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness
God's word:
Revives
Wisens
Rejoices
Enlightens
Warns
Rewards
Profits
Makes competent
And Equips
How do I know it's true? He tells me so!

Hey friendship bunch. BRNZ is right, very good question. As you can imagine questions like this get posed by those who don't know the Lord quite often, and a natural reaction is to break out the poles and
fish
so to speak. (fishers of men)
Glad to hear you know the author yourself! And Welcome to CU btw!

Hi everybody! I'm new to this sight but I can feel your love for God already. My answer for the topic is this: for those who don't want to believe there will never be enough evidence to prove that it is true and those who want to believe that the Bible is true will believe without any proof. Yes, nearly all of the events and individuals that are written about in the Bible can be proved either through archeology or by other historical writings but the most important facts written about in the Holy Bible - God loves you,God was here on earth in the form of His son Jesus, Jesus died for our sins,Jesus was raised on the third day,if we believe in Jesus we have eternal life- these facts must be accepted through faith. Like I said, I'm new to this so if anyone feels like I need to be taught -I'm eager to listen.

Hi eddiefied
Welcome to CU!
Quote

This is very true!
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
And faith....
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Those who seek proof and evidence always seem left holding too many pieces to get another hand around this truth. Those who come truly seeking God are the ones who take hold with both hands finding
truth
Gods way. How wonderful and mysterious is the Lord of Host?
Grace and Peace!
