Gary Webb, the Pulitzer prize-winning reporter who broke the story of the CIA’s involvement in the importation of cocaine into the U.S., died December 10, 2004, reportedly from self-inflicted gunshots to the head.

It was a tragic end to a brilliant, and tragic, career.

In August 1996, the San Jose Mercury News published Webb’s 20,000 word, three-part series entitled Dark Alliance. The articles detailed the nexus between a California coke kingpin, CIA officials and assets and the Nicaraguan Contra army, whose funding had been cut off by an act of Congress in the mid-80s. Webb found evidence that the CIA had direct contact with the smugglers, knew the proceeds were going to fund the murderous Contras, and tried to cover it up when other law enforcement agencies began investigating. The most troubling aspect to the story was that the central player was no ordinary drug lord. He was the man many credit for popularizing crack, the highly addictive, smoke-able form of cocaine.

For many African-Americans, the story smacked of a grand conspiracy to destroy the black community. There were rallies in Watts and Compton, and heated discussions on black media across the country. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus called for a federal investigation. In November 1996, CIA director John Deutch appeared at Locke High School in South Central Los Angeles to personally answer to the allegations. He was met with loud jeers. It was a PR disaster.

So I guess all those stories about crack into black neighborhoods in the 80's to destroy the black family were true, and most thought black people were crazy to say the govt itself under Bush Sr was importing the crack cocaine into black neighborhoods!

All those conspiracies about the royal family plus the c ia being the kingpings of the world drug trade from people like Alex Jones/David Icke do not sound as crazy anymore.

Many Christians do and more everyday.  The information he provides is crucial to understanding what is going on in the world.  Specially for Christians.

Oh goodness, I can see where this is going.  We can't change the past.  I owe nothing to anyone where history is concerned, accept my life and total gratitude to Jesus for dieing on the cross for me.  As for "White" man, I am a "White" man in apperence, but as a Christian we don't look at apperence we look at spirit right? I can't help what color of skin tone did what, but look at the person inwardly not classify them outwardly.

Sorry, but i'm not going to apologize for something my ancestors may or may not have done. That was then and this is now. I will only apologize to someone IF and only IF i've cast a stumbling block into their path un-intentionally. However, i won't apologize for stating a Truth, or an observation. I don't see the sense in apologizing for History. That's what it is...what was done is history. It saddens me it happened, but it did. Whatever grievances one may have for what happened...you are entitled to them, however, don't let that cloud your judgement or your attitude toward others. Too often I see people blinded by the hatred and racism that their fathers possessed and they become no better than their parents. Again, the only time i'll apologize to someone is IF and only IF i've cast a stumbling block into their path or un-intentionally hurt them physically. I'm part Native American, but i'm also part caucasian if you wanna call it that. I know the plight of the Native Americans...i'm well aware of my history. I know what happened to the dark skinned people brought over here on the slave ships. And it saddens me, but why bring up the past continuously...take it and learn from it instead of apologizing for it. I just do not see where we today owe them an apology, the only person we owe an apology to is God Almighty, for being such stubborn fools and such sinners. We should be apologizing to Jesus Christ for having to take on the Cross when it should have been us up there. Just a few thoughts. God Bless!

Yes, I agree with the statement It is critical to understand what is going on with the world. Alex Jones is not the one to listen to here. You may as well get your information from "X Files" as to get it from him.

The story of the govn't importing crack into black neighborhoods is not true. This is just another story by someone that wants to make money off of those people that are willing to be duped into following conspiracy theorists. Put the blame on someone else other than the individuals themselves.

Brother, I agree.  However, I think that the X-Files would be much more accurate.   :D

There are wild conspiracy tales all over the Internet that people are duped into believing. One could make up a story about anything and have some sort of a following in days. Some of the conspiracies have been around for years, and they persist, even though they were nothing but the result of imagination and the ability to tell tales.

Unfortunately these people will believe these conspiracies but when the actual truth is presented to them they will not believe a single word of it.
