I was hungry...
And you formed humanties groups to discuss my hunger.

I was imprisoned...
And you crept off quietly to your church and prayed for my release.

I was naked...
And in your mind you debated the morality of my appearance.

I was sick...
And you knelt and thanked God for your health.

I was homeless...
And you preached to me of the spiritual shelter of the love of God.

I was lonely...
And you left me alone to pray for me.

You seem so holy, so close to God...
But I am still hungry...and lonely...and cold...

That's a very good way to put how sometimes Christians may try to have good intentions but never take actions to make it happen.

This reminds me of why faith is useless without works. For instance, if a brother is hungry...telling him that "man does not live on bread alone but by the word of God" is useless if you dont first satisfy his need.

Quote
James 2:14-20
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder.
You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

We can often find ourselves having faith without deeds, and we usually never notice. Whenever we encounter a person who needs help, we are quick to suggest a solution, voice wisdom, or give sound advice, but do we ever try to physically help the person? We are quick to admonish or correct a person, but do we ever help the person become better? It is easier to make yourself look good and holy by displaying your faith but in the end, it is really useless. We may look like we're displaying love but we really are not.

A better way to do things is to first help the person with the deed...and then help the person with the faith.

Nana:
I got it in an email with just a first name as the writer.  Someone by the name of Heather.  It was a FW with no other information.

It struck me really hard, because I deal with people every day who have been brushed off by individuals who look the other way, who refuse to lend a helping hand, and who judge the down and out as unworthy of help and/or lacking in faith.

In other words they are rejected by the very people Jesus commissioned to reach out and love.

I printed it off and hung it up on my desk - so that I may never forget that unless I take an active part in being Jesus Hands and Feet by loving the outcasts of society - I am nothing more than a clanging cymbal.

Shalom, Nana

Reminds me of:

"When I call them radically churched, I’m not knocking the church. The church is God’s idea and is God’s way of reaching the world. But what we have made of the church and what we read in the New Testament are often two different realities. What I’m saying is that there is a difference between the radically churched and the radically changed- the changed meet Jesus and never recover! ~Dr. Alvin Reid"
