Hardcover vs. Paperback

If the book you wanted was available in both hardcover and paperback, do you go for the cheaper paperback, or do you go for the more long lasting hardcover?

For me, it depends on the price. If the hardcover isn't that super-duper expensive, I always go for the hardcover; however, if there is a very big price difference between both editions, I'll probably go for the paperback--like I did with my recent purchase of MARVEL's Marvel Masterworks line.

I have 12 to 15 'favorite authors'.  Since I've read virtually everything they've writtten - and since I love to read - I'm I pretty much have to get hardcover.

(I like them better anyway - bigger printing for older eyes.)

Hardback books also, last longer then paperback book.

Hardcover. Paperbacks look tacky after I've had 'em a while.

After too many years and too many books, I only buy hardback if it's a book I plan to keep. Otherwise, I buy paperbacks and then pass them on.

Hardcovers because I just like them better.  Only problem is that I'm married with two daughters.  Basically I'm broke!  *L* So paperbacks have to be the chosen course until I have the extra $20 bucks to pick up the hardback.

I carry several books at a time in my backpack, across 3 different towns in a daily basis. And I can’t take my car everywhere. Paper back all the way!

However, is it is a favorite author of mine, such as Stephen R. Lawhead, I will by the hardcover, because I can’t wait till paperback to see what ingenious plot line that is like all the rest of his plotlines he came up with this time.

It depends really. Usually I go for the paperback books, since I read so much and a book will only last me about a week or so... it's just not worth the $20+ dollars.

I do have a few hardback books though. They're nice, but I'm happy either way.

I like Hardcover books when I'm reading something long.  And paperback when it's under 300 pages.  For instance I just read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on advise from my sister.  But her copy was paperback.  nearly 750 pages of paperback is way too much.  I like larger letters that are only found in hardcover if I'm reading that much.

Actually I'm 19.  Just because I read a children's book doesn't mean I'm a child.  Adults read them too.  I was told they were good books so I read one.  Don't tell me you've never read the chronicles of Narnia just because they were made for kids.

I buy paper back when I can get the book that way.  But I am very careful with my books so they last forever (well a long time anyways  )

Then if I really have to have it in hardback I watch our Friends of the Library bookstore where I can get used hardbacks for a quarter.
