many claim to be christian thesedays. from mormons, to jehovah witnesses, to moonies, to bahai's. how can we discern between these man-made religions? how do you know who you are standing next to in church? how can you tell if you leaders/elders are not mormons or jehovah witnesses.?

im sure you are aware that people can use scripture to control people and there are some that will even batter people to death with scripture. im not saying that you are that kind of person though when i first looked at the post.....it certainly gave me that impression. no offense.

you are correct when you say you have to be filled with the Spirit. We also have to be sure it is the right Spirit that we are being filled by. The purpose of my initial post was to make christians aware of what is out there. Some of them might not know what you already know? Some of them might think they are worshipping with fellow beleivers, when infact they are worshipping with Wolves in Sheeps clothing. The initial post is purely to let folks know what is going on?

You obviously dont seem to worry about it for some reason?

I like to quote scripture fairly ofter too, so what does that make me. By the way, do you find your approach simply makes people angry or hurts their feelings? UM??, maybe a matter of maturity on your part??

i guess it all depends on how you use the scripture. do you use it in pride and arrogance to show people how well you are versed in the bible. or do you use it in love and gentleness.

the post i got, which im sure you saw, was full of scripture and nothing else.

anyway, why am i trying to defend myself?

No offence taken. I am quite aware of what your saying, but do you always assume such a cynical stance before you even know who your conversing with?  There was nothing in my post that should have given you the impression I was trying to control or batter you, rather simple and straightforward answer to "how do you know...?"  Perhaps you just don`t want a simplistic answer to what you deem complicated?

Again, the answer is be filled with the Spirit, spiritual awareness is given by God, thru His Spirit, and His Word. For those who dont know what is going on, again, it comes right back to being filled with the spirit, reading the Word.

We also have to be sure it is the right Spirit that we are being filled by

Luk 11:11  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if [he ask] a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Luk 11:12  Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luk 11:13  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

If a child of God asks for the Holy Spirit, they will be given the Holy Spirit, not a serpent.

Where in my post did it seem "obvious" as to what I worry about or not?  We could easily have conversed without you taking the defence, if you were`nt so obviously already on the defensive, and ready to make assumptions, as soon as anyone replied to you.

1 Corinthians 2:9.  But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
 10.  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
 11.  For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
 12.  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

The qualifications for bishops and deacons are given in God's word in Timothy and Titus.

1 Timothy 3:1.  This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
 2.  A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
 3.  Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
 4.  One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
 5.  (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
 6.  Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
 7.  Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
 8.  Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
 9.  Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
 10.  And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
 11.  Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
 12.  Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
 13.  For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Titus 1:6.  If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
 7.  For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
 8.  But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
 9.  Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

The Bible contains all that is necessary to know for redemption back to God and salvation through Jesus Christ. Preaching of its word is going on! This is not to say that your input and thoughts are not appreciated, but a "thus saith the Lord" is a must. It must accord with God.
