My dear Father,
  Now that I pray
Help it to be, in a heavenly way,
Not for trivial things I plead,
  But for courage
  To teach those who need
  Thy loving words
  To lift their load
As daily they trudge along life's road.

...Help me, Oh Father,
   Grow to be
   A Christian,
   A Friend to humanity;
   Teach me to seek
   The truth from Him
   And drink from the cup
   With o'er flowing brim
   The Immortal Nectar
   He died to give
   To save our souls
   That we might eternally live.

Teddi - another good one.  Smiley

Please note that Mr. Bep has had the administrators set up a new area for Poetry.  I look forward to seeing more of your writing there!

Teddi:

Both are well written, and thoughtful.

thank you, blackeyedpeas, Judgenot, Crusader, ravenloche. Smiley

This occurred to me today...

*NOT TO BE "SHORT SOLD"*

I awaken each morn'
To this world of woe
Oh, why has our Lord God
Made it so--!

It happened centuries ago
In the Garden of Eden
When Eve reached and plucked
The fruit so forbidden.

Everything to Adam, with
The mate from out of his bone
To the manna of the field,
Our Lord God had created and sown.

But Satan crept in
Clad in a stunningly striped robe
And pointing to a Lebanon Cedar
Offered them the globe.

Not to be "Short Sold"
And losing a bet
They relinquished their futures
To foreordain the world I met.

Condemned to till the soil
With beads of sweat, tears of sorrow
Tired and worn each day's end, and
Wondering about tomorrow.

'Til I learned about the LIFE
Of Jesus Christ upon the Cross
Not to be "Short Sold".  I received
One future, Heaven gained--Nothing lost!

A Child's Dream'

Twas when I, but a child
Had ideas imaginative, wild,
But always in my memory is
A dream we built, somehow, His.

My childhood chum, Harry, and I
Planned a stairway to the sky:
For the steps purest gold,
Shining, beautiful to behold...

Banisters all spotless white,
That seemingly yet reflect a light.
"Just think we can visit God everyday,
That is, if He says we may."

I thank Thee, Father, for this young dream,
Though vain it was, not so it seems,
Since I have learned,
'tis Jesus Christ, Lord and Saviour
Who holds the stairway-
The Cross His labor.

teddi-
Make sure you keep all of your writings - hand written if possible - in a safe place.  Bind them all in a single volume - and if you aren't famous some day, then at least your great-grand children will be able to enjoy them and keep passing them on.  (Unless Jesus comes for us first - then all of Heaven will enjoy them!)  Grin
