The charismatic movement in general, may have wonderful praise and worship, but when it comes to sound biblical teaching it's sorely lacking. Instead of the Word of God being foundational ( and they will claim that it is), many are emotion driven ( of course they will say it is the spirit doing it). Charismatics are open to change.....the latest I heard was praying around a "prayer stick". I guess the holy laughter and the dog barking is out of fashion now.

It has it’s flaws, as all Christian groups do, but it is Christian. Don’t make me start on my “fire in the fireplace” lecture again Grin

I ditto 119. Yeah, laughter is out of style. Now gold dust is the thing.

I personal favorite thing is to open Charisma, and read all the titles of the guys on the advertisements. Prophet this, Apostle that, Bishop this, Archbishop that. My personal top 3 favorite: Co-pastor, Prophetess, and Saxophonist. Gets a chuckle out of me every time.

Ah, god love ‘um.

It's emotional release for a lot of'em.

Some of it's dangerous.  Despotic.  Dictatorial.   The "Shepherding Movement" I believe is imbedded in there somewhere.

Pentecostal Confusion - Charismatic Movement

In Acts chapter two Luke tells us "that there were dwelling at Jerusalem JEWS, devout men, out of every nation under heaven" (verse 5), along with Peter's words: "Ye men of Judea (verse 14), "Ye men of Israel" (verse 22), and "Therefore let all the house of Israel know" (verse 36), and "Repent , and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins" (verse 38).

Note that four times Peter, at Pentecost indicated that he was addressing only Jews, or Israelites. Are you a Jew living in the age of Israel? Then this is for you! But if you are a Jew or a Gentile living in the Dispensation of Grace then what Paul had to say is for you.

Paul was the Apostle of the Gentiles. We need Eph. 2:8-9. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God," So the problem is that Peter says "I am speaking to you men of Israel," while in Romans 11:13 Paul clearly states "I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gntiles"

The great Pentecostal Confusion comes from millions of Gentile believers blindly following their leaders in listening to and heeding Peter's message instead of listening to Paul.

Before we start patting ourselves on the back, and saying,"thank God I'm not like them", one needs to be reminded that there are also gross errors in the mainline non-charismatic churches. There are errors in both camps.

I do not believe the gifts are not done away with.  Because certain groups abuse the gifts, (or say they have gifts they really don't) doesn't mean they don't have validity for today.

I believe the main problem with many of the charismatic churches, is that they are so "free in the spirit", that sometimes they will receive another spirit....and it's not holy.
But we should never underestimate the power of God either.

They just don’t know where to draw line. Reverence has gone down the crapper, not just in the Charismatic, but others as well. Fear of God? We have “No fear” stickers on our bibles! Let us do what gives us a fast emotional high and/or fills them pews, people! We Christians today just live in small little worlds the revolve about us.

Is the charismatic movement Christian?

My answer is yes as much as many other mainline Church, yes many of the charismatic movement do not use the gifts as the Bible says, but than many of the other side, forbid or ban the gifts, others have strayed so far that they not only have homosexual members, but pastors also.
On this thread I am afraid all can do is agree to disagree.

Yikes, Forrest, gay members AND pastors??   Embarrassed Lips Sealed

I guess it would only make sense though, such groups being caught up with the emotional side of things, getting in touch with their "feminine" side.   Roll Eyes  (Sorry, no offense, ladies... Grin).

Where is the Love in your post, charity in the KJV is translated love.

1 Corinthians 13
1   Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2   And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3   And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4   Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Oklahoma Howdy to Brother Forrest,

Let me see if I understand your stance. I guess the question on this poll could be worded many ways. As an example, would you have less problems with the discussion if the original question was:

Are there some Christians in the charismatic movement?
My Answer - Yes

or

Is the doctrine of the charismatic movement Biblically sound?
My Answer - No

I doubt there is any movement that is 100% Biblically sound in doctrine (Who would be the judge?). I would also doubt there is any organization with 100% Christian membership other than the CHURCH WHICH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST. Am I getting close to describing your objection?

In Christ,
Tom
