Ok, you tell me. Gift from God? If so, How am I supposed to use it to Glorify God?
Curse from Satan? If so, How do I get rid of it?

OK, a few more thought to my previous post...

Any spiritual gift we receive from God, will point to and Glorify Jesus Christ.  Thats not something we Will to happen....its the Spirit working through us which brings Glory to Him automatically.   Also, God is not the author of confusion 1Co 14:33, which this thing seems to be causing some for you.

I want to be very careful here...because I don't want to say it is or isn't from God.  Obviously this is something you need to take up with God, but If it is a gift of God, it should apparent as it would bring ultimate Glory to Christ through its working.

A few more verses following those from the previous post as food for though...

1Jo 4:5  They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
1Jo 4:6  We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Do believers about you, know and sense Gods truth when this ability shows itself?  On the other hand, do Unbelievers take notice when it happens?

So...

Gift of God...Points to Christ in the Flesh, believers knowing Christ, hear His word and see His workings.

Not a gift of God - denies Christ in the flesh, speaks of worldly things (could be laced with some truth), and unbelievers listen and take notice.

Again, please take this to the Lord in prayer.   Ask Him to reveal His truth to you regarding this.  I don't want to speak for Him in this matter, but I certainly have some concerns, as its not clear to me which way this works yet.

Blessings!

Not ever experiencing such myself, I can only offer what scripture says....

1Jo 4:1  Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1Jo 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;
1Jo 4:3  and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

I believe John is speaking about not only SPIRITS, but doctrine or teaching as well when he says "every spirit".   I would say if this is a gift from God, it should point toward all truth in Christ, with the soundness of scripture lining up perfectly.  I'm not sure how picking up a knife and knowing its previous owner was good or bad does that, so I really don't know.

Let me ask you this....Did you have this ability before you surrendered your life to Christ?  I ask, because we do not receive gifts of the spirit until we are given the Holy Spirit through salvation.   I do know that there are many folks who are unbelievers who claim to have such abilities, but I'm not sure I would attribute those cases as God given.

That's all I can offer at the moment, but I will give it some more thought and prayer.

Blessings!

Mormons, JWs and Catholic. Lots of Books that are constantly changing and can't be pinned down.
It is so sad that these folks actually believe what they post.
Several Folks joined just to keep the unsuspecting person from falling into their lies. I for one let their prostitution of the Gospel get to my human nature and I am not proud of the way I acted. I did apologise, but that doesn't change the fact that as a Christian, I should have acted a whole lot different.

Yeah that sounds like a mess.   Regarding not being proud, I know for myself, there are many times I am not happy with the way I handle stuff (no comments from the peanut gallery yall..lol).  But we learn from mistakes and move on.  From the sounds of it, you probably did the right thing leaving.  Even the disciples were told to shake the dust off their feet leaving places when truth was rejected.

Anyhow, that's history now!  I am glad you guys decided to join us, and I sincerely hope we can be a blessing to you, as well as be blessed by you all.

2Tim., unfortuneately, not all "Christians" find Christ to be the "All-in-all" and have to look to their "prophets" to guide them

I see....yeah thats scary!

Well, we do get a little nutty here sometimes, but as BEP says, we are Bible believers and stick to scripture as the only source of truth.  I do hope you guys enjoy your time on CU.   Looking forward to knowing you all.   Smiley

52  Theology / Debate / Re: Should the church promote young marriages to deal with sexual immorality? on: April 30, 2007, 10:08:30 AM
One other point....is that Jesus purpose in this life was to reconcile man to God....not marry and establish an earthly family.

Jesus said:
Joh 5:30  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Jesus was not looking for women to wed in this life.  He was seeking a Bride consisting of ALL believers...HIS CHURCH to present to His Father.   Not some woman in the 1st Century.   It was all about redeeming all men to God.

Rev 21:9  And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

If you read the rest of Revelation chapter 21, you will see the Lambs bride.

Seems like each year now there is more and more supposed evidence regarding Jesus earthly life and so called secrets revealing things we never knew about Him.   This is all nonsense, and clearly an outright attempt by the enemy to confuse man regarding Grace and Salvation.   Much of that evidence you see on TV, is quickly debunked as well, many times by non-Christian scientists as surprising as that is.

Blessings!

Evel Knievel Dares to Live for Christ
By Steven Little
CBN News

CWNews.com–-The motorcycle daredevil known as Evel Knievel risked his life countless times for the rush of adrenaline and the roar of the crowd.

But nothing compares to his newest thrill: Jesus Christ.

Evel Knievel the motorcycle daredevil is now Robert Knievel, bold follower of Christ.

“I want to scream to the world I'm a born-again Christian,” Knievel said.

He shared his amazing transformation at Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral on Palm Sunday.

“I know there's more to life than what I had,” he said. “I wrote a book saying I had a life better than anyone, better than any president. Hogwash, because I didn't have Jesus Christ in my life.”

Knievel says that many people have prayed for him over the years and sent letters asking about his belief in God.

“I don't know what in the world happened,” he said. “I don't if it was the power of the prayer or God himself. The power of God in Jesus just grabbed me. All of a sudden, I just believed in Jesus Christ. I did. I believed in him.”

His message moved the audience, as he shared from his heart.

“If you don't believe that Jesus Christ is what He says He is, you will surely die you'll die in your sins,” he said. “Believe me, you've got to believe. You've got to believe in Jesus Christ.”

Afterward, Rev. Schuller prayed for Knievel and baptized him.

Schuller's son, Robert, also one of the church's pastors, then looked out into the crowd. So many were moved, they were sobbing.  So he decided to drop his scripted remarks and give an alter call.

Hundreds of worshippers streamed forward for prayer and baptism. Crystal Cathedral doesn't have exact numbers but reports between 500 and 800 people committed their lives to Jesus Christ that Sunday morning.

  Hi!
57  Theology / Debate / Re: Reality of sexual Abstinance on: April 28, 2007, 05:28:34 PM
Ok, i can see your point there. But the reality is that it is going to be a high failure rate no matter how much you teach it.  you pointed out several things like murder, ect ect ect, well murder isn't exactly a pleasurable activity that our bodies need.

Yes, I know what you are saying, however, sexual sin is different than the others too.

1Co 6:18  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

This is the only sin that is against ones own body, therefore the command to FLEE this one!  I still think the previous points apply though.   Young folks CAN abstain.  Its the Spiritual walk that needs exercise and application, not the physical needs.

Quote
On the subject of our bodies, what about the physical aspect of longterm abstinance.  it does physical harm to us.

Not sure I've heard that one.  Where does this information come from?

Jemdude, is that you?  Huh  If not, this sounds just another thread around here about the same thing.

Anyhow....

Wanted to see what folks opinions on Abstinance, not necessarily on if its the right thing to do but the reality of its success and also on the effects of it on the human body.

Just wondering, about all the other sins a man is prone to as well.  Using your argument, it seems unreasonable to tell man that he shouldn't sin, and expect him not to.   So, doesn't any form of abstinence from lying, cheating, wrong thoughts and deeds go against our sin nature too, yet we still teach abstinence from those things?   Is it reasonable to expect success in these areas considering we are sinful fleshy creatures and it goes against our very nature as humans?  Just wondering where you draw the line there.

Quote
One thing i have come to realize is that there isn't one place in the bible where long term abstinence is taught concerning reproductive age people.

1Th 4:3  For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
1Th 4:4  That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor;

Does there need to be a long-term definition to the above command?   I see little wiggle room, and no hints about short term application.

1Pe 2:11  Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Note what the fleshy lusts are....

Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

All of these fall into the category of abstinence, and we all struggle with sin because of our sin nature.    Just wondering what you think the reality of success is for teaching abstinence from this entire list in Galatians?

Quote
Why is it we expect them to resist something that most of us wouldn't be able to resist. Try going without it for 6 months to a year.  You won't be married long if you do, so if we can't go without how can we expect our young folks to resist doing something that is God given natural function.

While I cannot argue that some temptations are great, scripture also tells us that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond that which we are not able to stand and escape.

1Co 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

What is the solution to keeping kids from sexual activity.  It most certainly isn't abstinence. that has a 80% failure rate.

I'll simply have to stand on Gods word here.  Clearly abstinence is taught not only regarding fornication but a whole slew of fleshy issues we have.  It never says its going to be easy, but it is taught.  We as believers must stand on the word and teach our kids to do the same.   To teach them that scripture is too harsh for their biological impulses, is heading down a dangerous road IMO.

The solution is teaching them to walk in the spirit as scripture tells us.

Gal 5:16  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

This covers the whole lot of fleshy lusts.   Should we fail to practice walking in the spirit, sexual purity is but ONE thing we will have to worry about.

Blessings!
