thanks for that great review!  I pretty much agree with most of what you wrote.  But overall, I really enjoyed Cuaron's interpretation of the book.  He made a beautiful movie, did you like all the "time" references throughout (i.e clocks ticking and the like)? I thought it was a nice touch. My only complaint is how much of the book was cut, but I suppose you can't have everything.

with all due respect....I think there's more important things to worry about these days than rewinding videos!  let this one slide Smiley
5  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Diet Coke or Not on: January 11, 2004, 11:44:20 AM
thanks for posting....more people need to be aware of how harmful aspartame is!
I'm also very sensitive to aspartame, it makes me quite ill.  people look at me strange when I tell them that I can't have diet pop, or anything else with aspartame (like yogurt! whose bright idea was it to put aspartame in yogurt!!).  but I'm hoping that awareness will increase as to the harm it can do.  give me sugar any day!!!

I haven't seen Peter Pan, but hopefully will soon!

"Dishonest people you can always trust to be dishonest.  Honestley, its the honest ones you have to watch out for."-Capt. Jack Sparrow

"You've got to be the worst pirate I've ever heard of"-Commidor Norrington
"But you have heard of me"-Jack Sparrow

--Pirates of the Carribean-LOVE THIS MOVIE, awesome action, johnny depp is hilarious, and orlando bloom is REALLLLLLLLLY cute!

I fully agree, POTC is one of my favourites, too!
(although I like Johnny a lot more than Orlando LOL)
anyway, those are some great quotes!

"but why is the rum gone!?!"
- Captain Jack in POTC

This reminds me of my brother-in-law's family's favorite holiday game to play in parking lots.  They walk down an aisle with a car just turning into it.  That car will follow them thinking they are about to get a spot.  They'll stop, fiddle with their keys, then cross a couple aisles to where their car is really parked!  I like that one!  Mean, but funny!

LOL I've actually done that unintentionally, when I forget where my car is in the crowded parking lot.
but I must admit, when someone is following me for my parking spot, and there's another spot close by but just a bit further,I do take an extra long time getting my keys, and warming up my car.  it just annoys me that they won't go and park in the other spot and stop watching me! I'm neurotic that way.
9  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Traffic on: December 03, 2003, 01:55:52 PM
Lottsa good posts but here's one I didn't see and it REALLY BUGS ME!

the driver who stops in the Walmart P.L. lane and waits for a space close to the door when there's not even anyone near a parked car to back out.  If I can "squeeze" past them, i can go around and park in the back of the lot and be in the store before they ever move.

One time, I even got in the store and back out only to see that same car still waiting for a close up space.

LOL so true, that annoys me as well!
the laziness of people never ceases to amaze me!
10  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Coming to America on: December 03, 2003, 01:50:57 PM
I find it interesting that Americans say they value "freedom" so much, yet this entire article speaks of forcing people to assimilate to American culture, language, and values.

Need I remind you that, unless you're of Native heritage, your ancestors were, at one point, immigrants too.  I'd be willing to bet that one of the reasons they came to America was that they had freedom of religion, culture, and language.

I should also remind you that people immigrate to your country (and to mine) because they're fleeing incredibly harsh living conditions, conditions of war, and poverty.  are you saying that you'll turn them away, simply because they don't believe in God?

this line in particular, scares me:
"We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change,
and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle."
quite frankly, if you aren't accepting to new ideas and to change, your "American" culture won't last too long.  culture is not stable, it's dynamic and always adapting and changing.  to be so intolerant to change should be frightening to you.

Although my country isn't perfect, I thank God I live in a country (Canada) and a city (Toronto) that values multiculturalism and diversity.

Elisabeth, yep-the whole nine. I have Anne of Green Gables memorized, as well as Anne of Avonlea, and the series-I like the one when Felicity finally finds out Gus is alive.

me too!  my favourite episode is the last one when they get married Smiley

sorry for being kinda O/T....

hope everyone had a good holiday
12  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Traffic on: November 26, 2003, 06:15:47 PM
LOL there are so many things that annoy me when driving:

- huge transport trucks that drive slowly, especially when driving in the "fast lane" (which they're not supposed to be doing!)
- people who make left-hand turns well after the light has changed, as well as those who race advanced greens
- people who don't signal
- people who cut in front of you superclosely, particularly while going at highway speed
- people on cell phones while driving
- people who don't have their headlights on during early morning, dusk, or even at night(!)
- people who do all of the above and have a "baby on board" sign on their window
