436  Entertainment / Television / Re: Not the History Channel! on: January 30, 2008, 09:51:02 AM
Hi Pizza_Mahal,

I agree about the history channel. My girlfriend's mother-in-law gets all her 'theology' from the History Channel and it's really messed up! She believes some really strange stuff, and is not convinced that Jesus is God. It actually sounds dangerous to me, from seeing what's happened to her. There's so much on there to plant seeds of doubt in people that would rather watch TV than study the Word.

Ditto, Pastor Roger, on the weather channel. Even the weather is very inaccurate on there. Before we moved to Florida we thought they were having rain everyday. My sister lives down here, and they would show her area to be raining all the time. When we got here they were in a draught, no rain for months. Same thing when we were in Virginia, we would have a sunny day and the weather channel would be showing our area getting a lot of rain.

437  Entertainment / Television / Re: Another plug for Sky Angel on: January 30, 2008, 09:39:11 AM
Hi blackeyedpeas,

Sky Angel is a satellite network. We get it in conjuction with Dish Network (if you have that). They came and installed the satellite when we called 1-800-SKY-ANGEL. We've moved with it from NY to Virginia to Florida and each time Dish installed the satellite for free. Not sure if that helps in your area or not.

Brother Jerry, I didn't know they were going over the internet - that's interesting. That would make it more available to more people I would think. That's really good!

God Bless

438  Entertainment / Television / Another plug for Sky Angel on: January 29, 2008, 11:24:21 AM
We don't watch much regular TV - only old shows, movies that have family values.

About 7 years ago we got the Sky Angel satellite network. We love it. You have to familiarize yourself with all the stations and programs but there is a lot there. They run a lot of Christian movies, which are excellent! For example, we've recently seen:

Facing the Giants
End of the Harvest
Gold throught the Fire
Behind the Sun
Six
Second Glance
Believers Among Us
The Perfect Stranger
Another Perfect Stranger
The Moment After
The Moment After II
Never Ashamed
Late One Night
Unidentified
The Crossing
Deceived
M 10:28
Fiddler on the Roof
Paul the Emissary
On the Edge
Alef-Tav - The Word of God
Time Changer
One Night with the King
Flywheel
The Prince of Egypt
The Gathering
The Daydreamer
God Help Me

....These are just a sampling

There's also so many excellent teaching shows, according to what you're interested in. Some of our favorites are:

Quick Study
Word Pictures
Prohphecy in the News
Hal Lindsay
Jewish Jewels (Messianic)
Jewish Voice (Messianic)
God's News Behind the News
Manna-Fest (especially when Bill Cloud is on)
Zola Levitt
Law & Justice
Jordan Rubin
The Way of the Master
Day of Discovery
The King is Coming......and so much more!

There is constant special programming and concerts. For what you pay for cable TV - it's a fraction of the cost! You can be in the Word a lot more, and ministered to, learning and growing every day. We've been introduced to so many excellent ministries through Sky Angel.

Plus there's so much kid's programming. Hope you check it out. It's much better and safer than public TV.
439  Theology / Debate / Re: Why should we keep the commandments? on: January 28, 2008, 10:57:47 PM
Hi surrendersacrifice,

Hmmm - I agree, a little fear isn't a bad thing. Psalm 111:10 says, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."

But also, after we understand our salvation and the love God has for us, and that He sacrificed His only begotten Son for our sakes, we learn to love Him. I think then, with that understanding and love, we strive to keep His commandments. I guess it started in the beginning, Genesis 1:3-5 says, "Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and ther was morning, one day"

Right away, God sees the light is good and makes a distinct separation between light and darkness, between good and evil. Jesus came to show us how to walk, He said 'Follow Me', the call to discipleship. He enables us to fight our own flesh to do what He did, to walk the way He showed us. Luke 6:40 says, "Every disciple, fully trained, will be like his teacher." So we strive, with the help of God, to do as He, our Loving Father, instructed His children. Jesus came to reveal the Father to us in a way we could understand so we could be more like Him. We wouldn't understand holiness or righteousness without God and His commandments. His Word, His commandments, are a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path!

We pray "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven...", and so we strive, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to be disciples, imitators, of our Master. Colossians 1:9-14 says,

"For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to sask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the LORD, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

So, as citizens, now of the Kingdom of Light, we want to submit to His loving instructions, His commandments.

The whole Bible teaches us from the beginning of Genesis, through Revelation, what God's definition of righteousness is, what dwelling in light is, how God's people are to live, and who the King of the light is.

"For not just the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified." (Romans 2:13)

"So then the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good." (Romans 7:12)

What matters is "the keeping of the commandments of God." (I Corinthians 7:19)

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." (Ephesians 2:8-10)

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in me as it is in heaven...

I think, definately, out of love, admiration and awe we obey His commandments!

440  Theology / Apologetics / Re: Is Jesus God? - Part Two on: January 28, 2008, 02:32:55 PM
Hi sixpack434,

This is an excellent Bible study. I have to add my voice to the others, Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ha Mashciach) is God.

In Exodus 3:14 God is revealing Himself to mankind. "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM; and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I  AM hath sent me unto you."

Then in John 8:58 Jesus says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was I AM." Here Jesus reveals Himself as God. The statement not only claims existence before Abraham, but equality with the "I AM" of Exod. 3:14. The Jews around Him clearly understood His meaning and picked up stones to kill Him for blaspheming.
Again in Mark 14:62 - "And Jesus said, I AM: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

In John 18:6 - "As soon then as He had said unto them, I AM (he), they went backward, and fell to the ground." (!)

In The Revelation of Jesus Christ, 2:8 - "And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive:"  - these words were spoken from the mouth of the risen LORD Jesus Christ, a witness to His true identity as the Everlasting God.

In Isaiah 42:8 - "I AM the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." The Hebrew word LORD here is the tetragramatton YHWH - the ineffable name of God, which in Hebrew is also translated Who was, and Who is, and Who is to come.

Isaiah 44:6 - "Thus saith the LORD (YHWH) the King of Israel, and his redeemed the LORD of hosts; I AM the first, and I AM the last; and beside me there is no God." This 'first and the last' here in Hebrew is the Aleph and the Tav, in Greek it's the 'Alpha and Omega', both are the first and last letters of their respective alphabets.

Isaiah 41:4 - "Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD (YHWH), the first, and with the last: I AM he." Seven times in Scripture the Creator uses the words 'first and last' to convey the idea that He is the Eternal God, beyond time altoghether. (See also, Isaiah 48:12; Rev. 1:11; 1:17; 2:8; and 22:13)

Revelation 1:17 - "And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; the I AM the first and the last:"

Revelation 1:8, Jesus gives us the self-revelation of who He is, "I AM the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending saith the LORD, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."
Jesus took the Glory of God in John 17:5 - "And now, O Father, glorify thou me with tine own self with the glory which I had WITH thee before the world was." God said He would not share His glory with another. Jesus SHARES glory with the Father. Jesus is LORD.

Exodus 20:1-4 - "And God spake all these words, saying, (2) I AM the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bandage. (3) Thou shalt have NO OTHER GODS before me. (4) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graen image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:"
The Old Testament (Torah) forbids giving worship to anyone other than God. Jesus accepted worship

Matthew 8:2 - "And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying LORD, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean."
Matthew 14:33 - "Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God."
Matthew 14:25 - "Then came she and worshipped him, saying, LORD, help me."
Matthew 20:20 - "Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him."

Mark 5:6 - "But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him."

The disciples attributed titles to Jesus the Old Testament reserved for God, such as 'the first and last' (Rev. 1:17; 2:8; 22:13), the true light (John 1:9), "the rock" or "stone" (ICorinthians 10:4; IPeter 2:6-8; Psalms 18:2; 95:1), "the bridegroom" (Eph 5:28-33; Rev. 21:2), the Chief Shepherd (IPeter 5:4), and "the Great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20).

They attributed to Jesus the Divine activities of creating (John 1:3: Psalms 130:4; Jeremiah 31:34), and Judging (John 5:27).

They used titles of diety for Jesus. Thomas declared, "My LORD and my God" (John 20:28). Paul calls Jesus "the one in whom the fullness of deity dwells bodily." (Col. 2:9). In Titus, Jesus is called, "our Great God and Savior" (2:13). The writer of Hebrews says of Him, "Thy throne, O God, is forever" (Heb. 1:3) Paul says that, before Christ existed as a human being, He existed as God (Phil. 2:5-8).

Hebrews 1:3 says that Christ reflects God's glory, bears the stamp of His nature, and upholds the universe.

The prologue to John's gospel also minces no words stating "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God." (John 1:1)

Jesus claimed equality with God in other ways. He claimed the perogatives of God. He claimed to be judge of all (Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:27-30), but Joel quoted YHWH as saying, "for ther I will sit to judge all the nations on every side" (Joel 3:12). He said to a paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven" (Mark 2:5). The scribes correctly responded, "who can forgive sins but God alone?" (vs. 7).

Jesus claimed the power to raise and judge the dead, a power which only God possessed (John 5:21-29). But the Old Testament clearly taught that only God was the giver of life (Deut 32:39; I Sam 2:6) and the one to raise the dead (Psalms 71:20).

Isaiah called "the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hebrews 13:8 - "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."!!
Who was, and Who is, and Who is to come!!!

Please, get to know Him in the fulness of His Deity!
441  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Chanukah 2007 on: January 27, 2008, 11:43:07 AM
Hi Dreamweaver,

Thank you for that description of the day that even our Savior kept in John 10 (The Feast of Dedication), and in the same context He revealed who He is when He said, "I and the Father are one." (John 10:30)

We attended a Messianic synagogue (they are Jews that believe in Jesus), and enjoyed the celebration so much, it was totally Christ based for 8 days! It also gave us a much better foundation and understanding of the historical view of the Bible and prophecy. I must say, that when a Jewish person comes to know Jesus (Yeshua) as their Messiah they have a very impressive grasp of scripture. We had a wonderful time, and so did our 12 year old son.

Thanks for the post!!
442  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Stock Market Crash Expected In 2008 To Be Worse Than 1929 on: January 27, 2008, 11:26:28 AM
Things are sounding pretty bad, and I also, believe there's a lot of manipulation. The economy is going from bad to worse. We've just moved to Florida and the foreclosures and stagnation in the housing market is shocking. Also, the way everything seems to be happening 'in concert' is very disturbing.

This from Bill Koenig:

"Although a recession in the developed world is now more or less inevitable, China, India and some of the oil producing countries are in a very strong countertrend. So, the current financial trend is less likely to cause a global recession than a radical realignment of the global economy, with a relative decline of the US and the rise of China and other countries in the developing world.

The danger is that the resulting political tensions, including US protectionism, may disrupt the global economy and plunge the world into recession or worse.

This current fiscal crisis is enormous and deep. No one knows how deep or enormous the fiscal crisis is, but to see President Bush and the Houses leadership act as fast and as cooperatively as they did on the stimulus speaks volumes about the seriousness of the situation."

And this:

"In conference calls to investors last week, banks from JP Morgan, Chase and Co. to PNC Finanacial Services Group, Inc., said they have been exercising more caution with commercial real estate, construction, and other loans.

San Francisco based Wells Fargo & Co. said it is reducing the maximum amount that some small businesses can borrow from a unit that specializes in unsecured loans and credit lines that average less than $20,000. Seattle based Washington Mutual, Inc., which reported a fourth quarter loss of $1.87 billion largely because of mortgage woes, said it was getting tougher on commercial borrowers. (Wall Street Journal)

Seems to be interrelated with the gold/silver/diamond crisis. Looks like we should be getting ready to tighten our belts, and more important, to draw as close as possible to the Word of God, Jesus Christ!
443  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: London stock trader urges move to 'amero' on: January 25, 2008, 01:20:36 PM
Yes, our way of life is changing so quickly. Our only hope is getting closer to our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, and following His ways.

I also agree, we're seeing Bible prophecy lived out right before our very eyes .... and most of the world sleeps. That's why it's so important that you're publishing these facts and articles. Hopefully, more will be made aware of what is happening!!
444  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Stock Market Crash Expected In 2008 To Be Worse Than 1929 on: January 25, 2008, 12:56:53 PM
Thank you for the warm welcome, Pastor Roger and blackeyedpeas - I'm glad to be here. There's some very interesting information here and I appreciate your sharing it!!

God Bless
445  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: London stock trader urges move to 'amero' on: January 25, 2008, 12:54:06 PM
Wow, Pastor Roger!

I read on cuttingedge:

"The American dollar is planned to decline so a world currency - or perhaps a regional currency like the Amero - can be established. Just before all Americans lose every dollar asset they own, some brillian economist will step forward to propose a switch to a regional or global currency! Americans will breathe a sigh of relief, as they realize that the switch to a new currency will preserve their monetary assets and their way of life.

In order to avert the crisis, all nations need to do is relinquish sovereignty before the problem becomes insurmountable."

These days are feeling very 'Biblical', aren't they?

Thanks for that new article!
446  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Stock Market Crash Expected In 2008 To Be Worse Than 1929 on: January 24, 2008, 05:49:21 PM
Hi Pastor Roger,

This is my first post. Just wanted to quote some 'interesting' statements from some important people on this subject:

"A global economy requires a global currency."
Paul Volker, former Chair of the US Federal Reserve

Robert Mundell, 'the father of the Euro', and one of the world's most respected economists, views crisis as the starting point for change. In a May, 2007 lecture, Mundell related, 'International monetary reform usually becomes possible only in response to a felt need and the threat of a global crisis.'  This Nobel prize winner also pointed his finger to the possible trigger event, saying that 'the global crisis would have to involve the dollar' and that a world currency should be viewed as 'a contingency' to a global dollar disaster.

Sounds very much like things are heading in that direction.

Thank you for your posts.

God Bless
