"What is the American Dream?"
This question was presented to a number of well known people in our American media by a Forbes magazine column. Before I post any further on that article I would like to ask some of you to post what you think the American dream means to you.
Are you asking what my dream is, or what I believe most Americans dreams are? I believe that most Americans dream of winning the lottery. My dream is that Jesus will come soon. If not then my second dream is that I will become more like Him and that others will see Jesus in me. God said not to seek riches so I don't think winning the lottery is part of His plan for me.

I don't understand this "probation" thing. I have never been on probation with the Lord, but I have been born again since May 18, 1963 when at the age of 17 I called upon the Lord and asked for forgiveness, and He SAVED ME! While I can sin and unfortunately do at times, I cannot lose my salvation and don't "fall from grace". What I do is temporarily sever my fellowship with my Lord until I come to Him and seek cleansing from that sin--much like your earthly father who only wanted you to confess to what you did.
One day I did something when I was 11. This was right after I joined the boy scouts. My dad asked if I knew anything about it, and I said, "Yes, I did it." I had never done that before but had always lied. I shocked him so bad (Not to mention myself) that I didn't get my usual beating for the "crime". I learned that day that the old saying, "Honesty is the best policy" is actually true. All God wants is for us to say, "Father, I have sinned. Please forgive me."

I bought a F.E.M.A RV that has been used temporarily by hurricane victims. It's a 2005, and I bought it in late 2005. I thought I was getting a good deal until after I lived in it for a while. They did a lot of minor damage throughout the RV and left the furniture and tile floor filthy. I don't think they ever mopped the floor. It wasn't their RV so why should they care? As was stated, too many people expect a hand out and don't care to help themselves. They have no respect for other people's property.

American is becoming similar to Sodom? sorry, but it bug me. The key word here is "similar" and not "the same as". However, with the acceptance of homosexuality as an "alternate lifestyle", letting them become ministers, letting them marry and even adopt children, and then making laws to protect their wicked lifestyle, I would say this country has become VERY similar to Sodom. There is also the legalized mass murder of millions of unborn babies. All those involved in that will answer to God for it in my opinion. Also, God's people will answer to God for allowing all this wickedness without protesting more strongly. Satan is winning over this world while we sit back and wonder, "How did this happen?" We stood back while one woman had the Bible and prayer removed from our schools. We stood back and allowed the Ten Commandments to be removed from in front of a federal building. We stood back while homosexuality was legalized and protected. We stood back while murder of unborn babies took place. We stood back and said, "I don't care as long as it doesn't affect me." Well, we're reaping what we've sowed. We sowed apathy, and now we're reaping a country that accepts anything except God's word.

Theology / Debate / Re: GOD don't want you to have TATTOO

What I love about my blessed Saviour is that He accepted me as I was and didn't expect perfection. I don't have and don't want any tattoos or piercings, but to each their own on that. I do agree that we should respect the temple of God (our body) and not deface it, but I don't get too concerned about what people do to their bodies, although I can't understand some things people do to themselves.
God says to come to Him as you are, and He will make any necessary changes. However, He is more concerned with our hearts than with our body.

Theology / Debate / Re: JESUS OR SANTA
|
on: July 27, 2007, 12:08:43 PM

I never encouraged my children to believe in Santa and never took them to see the store ones. I always let them know that their presents came from their parents. I guess I was a little selfish and didn't like someone else getting the credit.
I heard a story about a boy who upon learning that Santa wasn't real and that his parents had lied to him said, "And now, what about this Jesus story?" His parents had lied to him about Santa, and now he questioned if Jesus was real. By the way, how many have noticed the similarity between the name "Santa" and the name "Satan"? Just a coincidence as I've been told? Personally I don't think so.

This pastor sounds like a Christian Cult work in progress.
I would leave out the word "Christian". Am I missing something since I saw no reason why they don't want her there--other than the excuse that she was no longer a member? How can someone become a member of a church if they don't go there? Also, why would she want to go where she isn't wanted? I would just find another church. If there isn't one then I would stay home.

Hi, Jonathan here from Hudson, Florida--transplanted from Michigan for the warmer weather. I'm a 61-year-old grandpa of four. I've been born again since May 18, 1963. I've been a soloist in churches since I was a teenager. I've been to bible college but couldn't finish due to lack of money; I still have that problem.
