46  Theology / Debate / Re: Does Paul Contradict Himself ? on: July 08, 2006, 07:02:21 AM
Galations  3:24   Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
3:25   But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

And yet, over in Romans we read:
Romans 3:31   "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law".
Is one right and the other wrong ?

The law, of sin and death, being a shadow of what was to come and not the very image. Hebrews 10:1

Jeremiah said this about law to come:

"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."
Jeremiah 31:33

Paul said this:

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
[/i]
Romans 8:1-4, See also Hebrews 8

The law has not been done away, but is written in the hearts of the faithful in Christ, who walk after the Spirit, not the flesh.

2 Corinthians 3

"1.  Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
 2.  Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
 3.  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God;
not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
 4.  And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
 5.  Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
 6.  Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
 7.  But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
 8.  How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
 9.  For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
 10.  For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
 11.  For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

 12.  Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
 13.  And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
 14.  But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
 15.  But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
 16.  Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

 17.  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
 18.  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."

Hallelujah! Thank you Lord for calling us out of the world to live unto God through your Son.

Romans 6:4.  "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
 5.  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
 6.  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
 7.  For he that is dead is freed from sin.
 8.  Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
 9.  Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
 10.  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
 11.  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Amen, and to add to that thought for today:

Revelation 22: 12.  "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
 13.  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
 14.  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

52  Theology / Bible Study / Re: David on: June 02, 2006, 10:14:29 AM
The Holy Ghost speaking through David prophesied concerning Judas and his being replaced:

Acts 1:16.  "Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
 17.  For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
 18.  Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
 19.  And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
 20.  For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take."

David also spoke of the Christ:

Acts 2:25.  "For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
 26.  Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
 27.  Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
 28.  Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance."

David knew from an oath God swore to him that the Christ would come out of the fruit of his loins and would raise Him up to sit on David's throne:

Acts 2: 29.  "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
 30.  Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
 31.  He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption."

This God has done and has fulfilled all David's prophecies concerning Jesus Christ:

Acts 2:32.  "This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
 33.  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the Promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
 34.  For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
 35.  Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
 36.  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ."

Praise God,

According to a popular news network, the European Court of Human Rights has agreed to consider hearing Luigi Cascioli's case against the Catholic Church.
Cascioli says he wants the church to show proof that Jesus Christ existed. He says there was no Jesus; that there was a military man named John of Gamala who lived at the time of Jesus and it was gospel writers who turned that military man into the character of Jesus. Cascioli bases his case is on two points in Italian law; it is illegal to "abuse the popular credulity and it is illegal to impersonate another person.
He calls the Catholic Church leaders "con men," and says "they take advantage of the popular belief."
He originally sued a local priest as it is against the law to sue the Pope as the Pope is a head of state. Italian courts rejected his case

"Cascioli says he wants the church to show proof that Jesus Christ existed. He says there was no Jesus; that there was a military man named John of Gamala who lived at the time of Jesus and it was gospel writers who turned that military man into the character of Jesus."

He wants proof of Christ's existence?   Huh  Where is his proof "that there was a military man named John of Gamala who lived at the time of Jesus and it was gospel writers who turned that military man into the character of Jesus."?   Huh

Even so, no description, no mental image given, every eye will see Him on that wonderful day.

Revelation 1:7.  "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen."

You are more than welcome, ollie. I agree: the true Gospel is simplicity Itself, yet theologians through all recorded time have complicated it beyond recognition. It never ceases to amaze me how angry and unchristian some become when  the simple Gospel is presented.
Could that be because many folks claiming Christ are that in name only and their lives still refect that they have not been truly called out of the world and in to the sanctification and seperation unto God that Jesus Christ gives.
Quote
Folks revere the "traditions of men" while wrapped in stained glass robes of churchianity.
Worldly religion, not of God and His Christ. Not walking in the Spirit.

Quote
Bible prayer is light years distance from what most christians think it is; pouring out one's heart to God is good, but not waiting for His answers, not heeding His clear Instructions in His Word, not asking Him to change their character and heart to be like His, not just at the new birth, but daily, ...all these things are vastly more important than merely talking at Jesus.

God has revealed how to pray, how often to pray, and for what should be prayed.  To do it in the Holy Ghost one must be walking in the Spirit, having rejected and turned from the flesh and to the things of the Spirit through Jesus Christ.

Thanks again,

Here's a way to know what the Word means here: What is the opposite of the verse?Praying in a carnal spirit.......For example:
Good thought on how to approach praying in the Holy Ghost. It sure would be the opposite of the carnel spirit. Thanks.

Quote
making a 'Xmas shopping list" or 'Gimme prayers'~

cutting "deals" with God~

mumbling a memorized "prayer"~

praying for show, whether in public or private~

heavy repetition of key words, as if God is hard of hearing~

prayers that lecture God or 'clue Him in' on what you have been doing (normally just good clues!)

These are certainly not praying in or by the Holy Spirit!! Wink
Yes those would seem to be more things of a carnel nature and not so concerned with the spiritual.

God tells us of certain things to be prayed for. Jesus gives us an example in the prayer he gives to the apostles when they ask, "teach us to pray". The things God wants in prayer in the Holy Ghost would be things of prayer revealed through His Spirit . A good study and search of the Bible would probably reveal more of the things God would require of prayer to be such that it is in His Holy Ghost.

I thank you so much for your thought on praying in the Holy Ghost. It reveals that God is not so complicated and hard to understand when we have one another to aid in understanding. Your thought has helped me come to a better understanding of this praying in the Holy Ghost. The same application can be applied to the whole Christian life. That of in the Spirit rather than carnel. That is what those called out of the world and unto the holiness of God found in Jesus Christ is all about.

Thanks, again,   Smiley

Jude 1:20. "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,....."

Jude tells them that are made holy by God and preserved in Jesus Christ, Jude 1:1, that they can build themselves up on their most holy faith by praying and doing so in the Holy Ghost.

Any thoughts on how such, praying in the Holy Ghost, is accomplished today by those in Christ?

60  Fellowship / You name it!! / The Word of Truth on: May 13, 2006, 09:24:28 PM
What is that word of truth that Paul tells Timothy to rightly divide. 2 Timothy 2:15

Paul refers to the word of truth as the gospel of the Ephesian saints salvation at Ephesian 1:13.

It seems we take it out of context in our use to show a rightly dividing of truth between old covenant/new covenant, kingdom preaching of Christ to the Jews/gospel preaching of Christ's chosen apostles to Jews and Gentiles.

Paul tells Timothy to rightly divide the word of truth, the gospel, as some in that time are saying that the resurrection is past and the gospel word of truth puts it in the future and that no man knows when it will happen, only God. So Paul tells Timothy to work and show himself approved by rightly dividing the word of truth over this matter. To shun profane and vain babblings concerning the word of truth, the gospel of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:15-18

My thoughts on how we misuse the phrase "rightly dividing the word of truth"
