46  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:FAITH Is: on: April 22, 2003, 12:54:44 AM
Greetings to all,
When my daughter was very young, we used to play a little game. She would go up a few steps (maybe 4 or 5) on the stairs, and jump into daddy’s arms. One day while I was sitting at my desk, she had climbed the stairs to go to the bathroom. When she was finished she yelled to me: “Catch me, daddy!”

I turned to see that she was near the top of the stairs, perhaps one or two from the second floor. I yelled for her to wait and I ran to her. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, she just leaned out to fall into daddy’s arms. I had time to only hit perhaps the second or third step in a leap and then to dive toward her. I caught her, but I hit my body on the steps and lifted her up behind my head.

She said “WEEEEEEEE! Let’s do that again!!!” I told her no; that we would have to wait awhile (I was hurt). I told her though that she must never do that again, because I might not have been able to catch her.

I often thought about her faith in me. I also often wondered if I had that kind of faith in God. I hope I have, but I have never been asked to express as much trust in Him, as I remember my daughter expressing  in me. Yet, she was so young, believing I could do anything. She is wiser now. I wonder how much wiser I am today. Sometimes I think I would be afraid of the truth.

God bless,

Greetings Everyone,
I have many favorite hymns that I like to bellow out. I may not be able to sing very well, but I can make a joyful noise with the best of 'em!

I am not certain which is my all time favorite, but if the most touching is a clue, there is one I just cannot get through even to this day. It may have been the first one I learned. I don't know.

Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong.
They are week, but He is strong.

Chorus:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven's gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in,

Chorus:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
He's prepared a home for me,
And some day His face I'll see.

Chours:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

It is a simple Hymn. Perhaps, I am just a simple man, because I can't even write it without emotion.

God bless,

Hi Terri,
One of my favorite Scriptures is Psalm 27:4 -- "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in His Temple."

Thinking upon this Scripture keeps me focused; kind of like looking into that mirror in 2Corinthians 3:18 and becoming more and more like Him. As I think on that I have to think of 1John 3:1-2. It reminds me that all the work of God in me (and you too) is going to be a smashing success! We're destined to be like He is!

What a thought! Makes we want to break out into singing the Alleluia Chorus, but don't sweet it, I won't. I've heard me sing before, so I'll just think about it!    Grin

God bless,

John1one

Hey Sean,
Good Scriptures! If you wish to develop the "Angel of the Lord" doctrine a little further, read about how He led Israel out of Egypt. The Word of God says that the ANGEL OF THE LORD came down to lead Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 3:Cool. In Exodus 13:21 it is YHWH (Jehovah) going before them, but in Exodus 14:19 He is called the ANGEL OF THE LORD. In Exodus 14 He goes before them and moves behind them to protect them from the Egyptian armies.

I am not certain what Scriptures you already have to develop your doctrinal stronghold. If I am just repeating what you already know, I apologize. In any event I believe you have excellent Scriptures already and a good heated discussion with someone with an opposing point of view will help you to sharpen up what you already know and strengthen your argument with additional Scripture as the Holy Spirit brings things to mind.

Have a great evening and God bless,

Greetings AvenAleuthyra,
I am going out on a limb here. Is this your name or user name. I am intrigued over what it means or what nationality it is (if indeed it is your name). I don’t mean to pry if it is something private. Just expressing sincere and friendly interest.

I have friends who practice all sorts of different religions, from Christianity to Islam to Wicca. All of them believe their faith is right, although some of them believe every religion is a valid way to find God. Is this true?

What do you believe? Can every faith be true? If there is but one God, and if indeed He sent His only Son, do you really think that there would be more than one Way? As Sower says above quoting John 14:6 – Jesus is the Way. Whatever other faiths say about themselves and other religions, Christianity is either true or false. There is no middle road with us. We went out on a limb by trusting that God sent His only Son to bear our sins and the sins of the world, thereby saving us (1Timothy 4:10).

Also, I was recently reading some books on comparative religion and some of the stuff in the Islam Qur'an seemed really similiar to the Bible. Does this mean Islam and Christianity are the same, or basically similar? Do Muslims worship the same God? Sorry for all these questions, but I really want to know. It's hard for me to be sure what's right, because there are so many faiths out there.

Muslims go to great lengths when speaking with Christians to try to create a link between their holy writings and ours. Once they do, they begin to pick apart our Scriptures, making out like they have become corrupt and that theirs is really the only true uncorrupt writings from God (Allah).

With regard to the fate of your friends, I would advise you to just live a life for Christ and let them see Him in you. Let God take care of those who are outside the Body of Christ. It is not for us to judge them. We have a Judge and He is merciful and full of love. If you love your friends, God loves them even more – He suffered and died for them. Let the testimony of His love for both you and your friends give you peace.

God bless,

Greetings Symphony,
I agree, the context of most (if not all) Bible translations concerning this Scripture point to Jesus! I have argued about the deity of Jesus on other discussion forums, so I try to respect the belief of those who believe that Jesus is divine but not God. I am not sure what that means, but apparently it means a great deal to some folks. It is apparent that they love Jesus, but according to how I read the Scriptures, they love but have a limited knowledge of Him.

It is not for me to judge the hearts of these brethren (I see them as such). I try to leave the judgment to God who deals with all of us mercifully. It is He after all who opens up our minds to the truths of the Spirit. I do believe, however, that we can refuse such benevolence, and remain ignorant (of course, they would be the first to say that I am ignorant). It just makes me desire His manifestation all the more.

I've always equated "the Lord" with the familiar, or friendly, or affectionate, address of The Almighty--that is, of course, with Jesus; it seems to transfer readily between Old and New Testaments.  And, the greatest commandment, "Thou shalt love 'the Lord' with all thy heart...", in Deuteronomy.

I agree; but again, others will argue vehemently against the idea of calling Christ “Almighty!” I have found that out. Sometimes I get depressed when involved in such a discussion for a great length of time. It just hurts my spirit. It is much more fun answering a question like this thread presents and reading a post like yours. Now it is my turn to thank you brother.  Smiley

Greetings Piano Boy,
It seems to me that John is saying that Isaiah saw the glory of Jesus. It does not specifically say this, but as far as I can see the context leaves us with no other conclusion.

The pronoun “his” is in the Greek and has no name to refer to in verse 41. Nevertheless, the pronouns in the following verse clearly refer to Jesus. The context speaks only of Jesus. If the pronoun “his” in verse 41 refers to our heavenly Father, what is there in these verses that would lead us to that conclusion?

Furthermore, Jesus speaks of this very Scripture in Isaiah when He was teaching His disciples in Matthew 13:14-15. Here Jesus seems to be speaking of Himself while quoting Isaiah’s prophecy.

Some people who read Isaiah 6 cannot see that it is a vision of the glory of Jesus (cp. John 17:5), To see Jesus as YHWH God would upset the theology of some sects or individuals in various other sects. Nevertheless, the one who became Jesus is often called YHWH in the Old Covenant. I don’t mean to make light of the opposing theology. People arrive at their beliefs with a great deal of inner strife and prayer. I try to respect that, but I must conclude that the One who became Jesus is often called YHWH under the Old Covenant. This New Testament reference in John 12:41 refers to Jesus in Isaiah, as He was before He became man.

Have a great day, and God bless,

I agree, “Interesting!”

Nevertheless, when did the women have a chance to buy (Mark 16:1) and prepare (Luke 23:56) the spices to anoint the body of Christ?

If you have back to back Sabbaths for the Passover (the Holy Day on Nisan 15, and the weekly Sabbath), the places of business would be closed.

I have to go with a Wednesday crucifixion!

God bless,

Hello there! Cool
{{{"}}} -- looks around. Seems like a nice place to chat for awhile. I am from Pennsylvania; and a northeast "HOW DO!" Grin to you all.

Sorry to hear about your crash last month. That was too bad. I looked around these boards a few times before. There seemed to be a lot of good folks here. I hope they return soon.

Anyway, I am glad to make all of your acquaintances. Maybe we can sit and chat over a cup of coffee (or tea etc.) about our Lord and Savior sometime soon.

God bless,

John1one
