It is absurd that this was ever allowed to happen.  Lately, I continue to feel as though we are living episodes of the Twilight Zone.  It's absolutely incredible.  I fear the U.S. is on the brink of destruction.
48  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Abortion #1 killer of blacks, says Tennessee pastor on: August 09, 2007, 12:35:06 AM
Sister Angel,

I realize there are myriad reasons women seek abortions.  I have a friend who became pregnant due to a brutal rape by a stranger.   Some would argue that she had a legitimate reason to abort her baby.  After all, she was raped and should not be forced to give birth under such egregious circumstances.  Furthermore, the child would be a constant reminder of a tremendously traumatic experience.  Not only did she opt for life over abortion, she chose not to give her up for adoption.

Her daughter, the product of a vicious rape, is a wonderful young Christian lady, and my friend is extremely proud.  She told me she never thinks of "how" her daughter was conceived, it's irrelevant.  The circumstances of her daughter's conception do not change the fact that she is her child.  She said she can't imagine her life without her precious daughter.

There are many people alive today born prior to Roe v. Wade, who would not have been given the opportunity for life on this earth had their mother had the option for a legal abortion.   I'm not judging anyone who has had an abortion.  Only God can judge.  All I know is that life is a precious gift from God.

I will not debate this subject.  I too must agree to disagree.

I think there is more to this story on the Goose Creek explosives than most people will know about. Goose Creek is also the home of the Navy Nuclear Power School. I would think that there are more significant targets nearby, but who knows? The school isn't secret, but it is important to the future of our military power.

In all reality, we have a huge number of easy civilian and military targets all over the country, and we are like sitting ducks.

That's exactly what I was thinking.  It's very interesting that more media attention hasn't been given to this.  It really makes one wonder what else we aren't being told.

If only one person accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, it will have been well worth it.

Brother, my prayers are with you.  If God is leading you, He will also provide.  May God bless you in your ministry.

I simply could not make it without Jesus.  During good times and bad, He is my ROCK.  If I thanked Him every minute of the day, I could never thank Him enough.

Requires the screening of all container ships in foreign ports within five years, but give the Homeland Security secretary authority to delay implementation.

This means absolutely nothing, and may or may not be implemented.   They can pass all the bills they choose, but without secure borders it is not worth the paper it's printed on.

They haven't even taken MINIMUM precautions. The WELCOME mat is out and they've said come get us - WE'RE EASY! I'm not just disappointed - I'm DISGUSTED with the lame stupidity of our government! We are SITTING DUCKS and our government is determined to bring the hunters to us! Well, they are coming in greater and greater numbers - AND they are already here! It will be easy to thin the ducks out, and the ducks won't even know what hit them! They won't even need duck calls because the rules of HUNTING won't be observed![/b]

I couldn't agree more!  I too am thoroughly disgusted.  It is disheartening to watch the greatest country in the world facilitate its own destruction.  I'm sure our enemies can't believe the ease in which they have entered our country.  Given the events of 9/11, and the continued threats from Al Qaeda, one would expect our government to secure our borders at any cost.  The refusal of our government to protect this country is absolutely unfathomable.   I keep expecting to wake up from this nightmare, but then I realize it isn't a dream, it's reality.  It's hard to believe this is the United States of America.  It is truly a sad time.

I can't help but think of how God has abundantly blessed our country.  In return, He has been systematically minimized.  However, I still believe our country can be saved if we return to God and live according to His will.  I pray it isn't too late.
55  Theology / Debate / Re: JESUS OR SANTA on: August 05, 2007, 05:37:12 PM
It was wonderful to live in a time where it was innocent and holidays were special because it was a time for family and friends...but more so...I remember no matter what day Christmas fell on...the church had a service and people would go to church in the morning and after church..would be with family open presents...Santa at that time was not a debate because christians did not put him above Jesus nor did America at the time...As a matter of fact...nativitys graced every court house...but..with what men believe to be wisdom, made holidays a big issue to appease those who do not believe in God..the politicians looking for votes that many are responsible for taking God out of this country...If the people only knew...We may never know the exact day Jesus was born...but we know he was...and we may not know the exact day he was crucified...but he was...and we do not know the time he will return but he will...and the reason I know this is true is because His word says so...and that means we do not have to consider any debate over a holiday...we have christmas and easter everyday...for the Lord is with us..

Amen, Sister!  As a child, I anxiously awaited Santa and the wonderful toys I would receive.  However, first and foremost, Christmas was a special day to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  It was also a wonderful day to celebrate with family and friends. My older brother and I were always involved in Christmas programs at church, and the 'real' purpose of the day was always emphasized in my family.  When I accidentally discovered the reality of the source of the toys, I was initially disappointed, but took it in stride.

I also believed in the Easter bunny.  However, as with Christmas, my family always recognized Easter as a special day to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His wonderful gift of salvation.  Likewise, my older brother and I were always involved in special Easter programs at church, and Jesus was never minimized for Easter candy.

After I knew the truth, I still enjoyed seeing the excited faces of my two younger brothers as they received their toys on Christmas.  I think most children know the truth by the time they are 8.

I place Santa and the Easter Bunny into the same category as the Tooth Fairy.  I consider these as merely innocent childhood experiences.  I repeated the same with my son, always ensuring he understood the importance of Christmas and Easter as special holy days to celebrate the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, the world has corrupted these special days, and the true purpose of Christmas and Easter have been subverted by commercial greed.  I still find no harm in allowing children to have these beliefs, as long as the emphasis is placed on Jesus.

Early childhood is so brief.  I simply believe in allowing kids to enjoy that stage of life as a carefree and fun time.  Of course, as a parent my primary responsibility is to ensure my child has a strong foundation in Jesus, and that the Lord is acknowledged and worshipped on a daily basis.

This church allowing no excuses

By Jon Stevens, Staff writer
jstevens@observer-reporter.com

CARMICHAELS, PA - It's been nearly 20 years since First Christian Church of Carmichaels made a creative effort to lure members back into the pews by designating one Sunday as "No Excuse Sunday."

The church's former pastor, the Rev. David Mansfield, came up with that idea after he apparently heard about it from a fellow pastor in Butler, who had heard it from a pastor in Kentucky.

Now, Pastor Reagan Fike, who claims to have heard every excuse in the book, has launched a second "No Excuse Sunday" for Aug. 12.

"Our attendance has been slipping since last year," Fike said. "This is an idea of how to get people back in and hopefully we will have all our bases covered."

So, on Aug. 12, the church will be ready for such excuses as:

"Sunday is my only day to sleep in." - The church will have cots in the vestibule.

"The roof may cave in if I ever went to church." - Helmets will be provided for such worry warts.

"The church is always too hot or too cold." - Blankets and fans will be provided.

"The preacher always talks too soft or too loud." - You will have a choice of hearing aids or cotton balls.

"I have nothing to wear." - Extra clothes will be available.

"I don't feel well." - A registered nurse will be present.

Fike also said the church will have things to buy for those early Sunday shoppers; golf clubs so tee times won't se missed; maps for those traveling on Sundays; and a television so no one will miss their favorite program.

File said a continental breakfast will be available before church. "You can just crawl out of bed and eat at church," Fike said. Additionally, a luncheon will be served after church.

And for those who prefer to go to church only on holidays, a Christmas tree, poinsettias and Easter lilies will decorate the altar for those who never attended church without seeing them.

The church has approximately 135 people on the active membership rolls, but attendance is just averaging 30 to 40 people on any given Sunday.

"Of course attendance does go up around the holidays, when the kids perform or when there is a special service," Fike said. And, she agrees summer is a down time because people go on vacation.

But Deacon Tom Watters said, "The church never goes on vacation. God should take priority."

Nonetheless, Fike said she wants to make "No Excuse Sunday" a fun day. "I want people to say, 'Yes, today is the day I am going to get back in the habit (of coming to church),'" she said.

57  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: China's military might The long march to be a superpower on: August 05, 2007, 03:45:02 PM
Pastor Roger, thank you.  I thought I was lacking something spiritually.  Now that you mention it, it is logical that God has only revealed what He wants us to know.   It is so fascinating to live during these times.

"We reject all methods of terrorism, whatever the denomination or motive," Ahmadinejad declared.
He criticised what he called the "partial" view of human rights in Western countries.

This evil man is absolutely delusional.  He is complicit in the insurgency in Iraq that has deliberately killed thousands of innocent people through suicide bombers and other nefarious devices.  Their cowards hide in hospitals, schools and mosques because they know we avoid attacking such places.  They know we don't intentionally kill the innocent, and they use that to their advantage.
59  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Explosives found in car in Berkeley County, SC on: August 05, 2007, 03:19:08 PM
I'm not surprised.

Nope.  It is only a matter of time before suicide bombers start attacking our cities.  We can thank our government given our continued open borders.

This is certainly a volatile situation.  It will be interesting to see how it develops.
