31  Entertainment / Books / Ted Dekker on: December 05, 2003, 10:13:32 AM
Anybody read Ted Dekker Books?  I think they are great!  My favorite are Blessed Child and Three.  If you haven't read them
check your local library to see if they have them on hand or can they order them.  My library gets all the latest Christian fiction.  A lot of the libraries in the South stock Christian fiction and non-fiction.  If your library does, take a look a Ted Dekker's books and let me know what you think.

Watchman Nee was a deep thinker, used mightily by God to educate God's people in spiritual matters.  It takes me a while to read one of his books because I have to pause a few days to think and pray about the things I learn in his books.

You can find his books on ebay or amazon for reasonable prices.

Is Right Behind written by a Christian?  Seems a little strange to write a satire of the end times prophecies...

Amen!!  Good thought!!

Here's some good questions to ask ourselves:
What do you do in your church? or community?  how's your prayer life?  do you fast?  how much time do you study the Bible each week?  what do you do when disappointed? or angry? or lonely? or scared? or broke?

Our response may reveal how much we depend on God's promises.

Thank you so much for this information.  If you think of anything else that may help email me.  God Bless

I recently found out a loved one has schizophrenia.  His mother is in dire need of information on this subject.    Is there anyone on this forum who has experience with this?
38  Entertainment / Books / Notes on Purpose Driven Life on: November 14, 2003, 09:38:26 AM
Just wondering...has anyone been keeping a journal while studying The Purpose Driven Life?  I'm keeping a journal and would like to share some of my soulsearching thoughts if anyone is interested.

Go to a Bible bookstore.  I'm sure you will find a wealth of information on this subject.  Is your mom saved?  Maybe you can talk to her.  Talk to your youth minister, or the pastor of your church.  Do some research and get some feedback but don't spend too much time thinking about it or it will become an idol.

You asked us what we thought about Peretti but I'd like to know what do you think about his writings?
41  Entertainment / Books / Re:what do u think about Frank Perreti? on: November 07, 2003, 11:50:48 PM
I love Peretti.  "Visitation" is a wild ride and makes you think about how careful you have to be when you're trying to influence your kids for Christ.  "Piercing the Darkness"  and "This Present Darkness" are superb.  "The Oath" is great; I
loved the allegory of how sin affects your life without Christ.  It was a little slow but I still enjoyed it.  "The Prophet" is great!!  Peretti weaves the truth all through this one and it moves faster than most of his work.  "The Hangman's Curse" is
great for teens to adults.  I read this whole book to my mom and she loved it.

Any one read "The Wounded Spirit"?  That's his first non-fiction.

PS.  If you like Frank Peretti, I think you'll like Bill Meyers and
       Ted Dekker too.

Hi Terri, I'm curious.  Just wanted to know more about your mom's progress since she is reading "Purpose driven life".  Has
she found a church?  What activities is the Lord leading her to
participate in?  How do you feel about what God is doing in your mom?  Is this book drawing you two closer to each other?

I am currently on lesson #9: What makes God smile?  In this chapter I learned that God enjoys when we obey him wholeheartedly, even when we don't understand the command.  Often understanding comes after we obey. Delayed obedience is disobedience.

God smiles when we use the abilities he has given us.  This thought inspires me to write songs, poetry, essays, etc.  I want God to be pleased that I am using what he gave me for
his glory.

Hi there, I hope you are having a happy day.

I read your post about Mr Right and was fascinated that a young woman would be so wise in her desire to please God in her relationship with the opposite sex.  Keep it up; God is really proud of you!!!

I believe that there is some written guidlines for every phase of our lives, in the Bible and otherwise.  One book I'd recommend is called "I kissed dating good-bye".  It's about a guy who believed that he should not spend all his time looking for Miss Right.  He dedicated his single life as a gift to God and
put all his energy into serving the Lord.  As time went by he met many women along the way but when he considered them
he would ask himself is this someone I'd like to be married to and will I be able to glorify God along with this person or will this person cause me to lose my close relationship with God.
He wrote a follow-up book; I think it's called "When boy meets
girl" or something like that.  This book tells of his meeting the lady he is now married to.  So, he didn't have to spend alot of
time taking girls out and switching girlfriends every few months.

Again, my hat is off to you.  Thank you for being a shining example to people of any age or gender.

That's great!!  I think it's really nice that you & your friends
are helping him keep watch over the building.  Little things
like that help to build a relationship and can lead to the saving of a soul.  God bless you in all your endeavors.
