57376  Theology / Debate / Re:We Owe Children an Apology on: July 27, 2004, 12:35:40 AM
Sincereheart,

Sister, thank you for sharing that with us. We can do more than wring our hands and shout "woe is me". We all need some serious and regular time on our knees. We shouldn't get up until we feel the strength to STAND UP! When we become wobbly, it's time for more prayer. Getting on our knees to pray is not an excuse to lay down. It is simply a repeated request for God to give us strength to STAND AND FIGHT!

I believe that God will grant our request if we spend more time on our knees. Grandpas and Grandmas just might be the most fierce warriors in this fight.

These thoughts and truths should bring sadness to all of us. Maybe some encouragement is in order, so I'll tell you "Hit'um Again Grandma."

Love In Christ,
Tom

Bible Ministry Makes Scriptures in Arabic Available Online

by Allie Martin
July 26, 2004

(AgapePress) - The Internet is proving to be a valuable tool for people in Muslim nations to download and read God's word.

The International Bible Society (IBS) has placed recorded portions of scripture in Arabic on its Web site. IBS officials say people in Muslim countries are downloading the word of God at record rates.

Dwight Anderson is a spokesman for IBS. "If people hear the word in their own language and their own dialect, I think it has more impact," he says. And, he adds, it gives Muslim believers a fine tool for sharing the gospel with others, since a person who is "very technically literate" can take a CD with an MP3 file on it, and "play it to a number of other friends or associates that don't have the technical capability or the literacy to do that."

The IBS spokesman, who made his comments on Mission Network News, says there are more than 20 hours of Arabic resources online. He noted that the accessibility of these scriptures via the Internet is having a major impact on Arab-speaking communities.

"We make these resources available so they can be downloaded and copied onto a computer, and then people can print them off or listen to them without having to go back online," Anderson says. "It's our hope and prayer that people would know where these resources are and that they would be able to use them and make them available to people they run into."

In addition to making portions of the Bible available via the Internet, IBS is also working to distribute more than one million pieces of Christian literature in the Middle East, including Arabic Bibles, New Testaments, children's Scriptures, and audio recordings for those unable to read.

Traditionalists Holding Legislators Accountable on Marriage Measures

by Jody Brown
July 26, 2004

(AgapePress) - It only makes sense that as 2004 election season officially kicks off this week with the Democratic Party's national convention, that groups with a special interest in certain issues would begin to hold politicians accountable for their recent actions on those issues.

For advocates of traditional marriage and family values, the recent and ongoing debate on Capitol Hill regarding same-sex "marriage" and legislation that would limit marriage to the traditional arrangement -- one man, one woman -- has taken on tremendous importance. For example, the recent Senate discussion and subsequent vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) generated literally thousands of phone calls, letters, and e-mails to senators, as well as millions of signatures on petitions favoring such an amendment. Nevertheless, 50 senators -- many of them from states whose citizens overwhelmingly favor traditional marriage -- voted to prevent that measure from even coming before the full Senate for a vote.

That move, effectively a filibuster staged by Democratic leaders in the Senate, has not escaped the notice of pro-family groups and their supporters who stirred that strong public outcry heard on Capitol Hill. The founders of both Focus on the Family Action and the American Family Association, in fact, are taking what they see as the next step in the process: urging pro-family voters in several states to hold their respective legislators accountable for their votes against marriage protection bills.

Over the weekend, Focus on the Family Action launched an ad campaign in several newspapers, singling out those senators whose votes helped defeat the FMA. The ad features a picture of an upset child and bears the slogan: "Shame on you, Senator." Those senators highlighted in the first series of ads included Democrats Tom Daschle of South Dakota, Harry Reid of Nevada, and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, and Republican John Sununu of New Hampshire.

Of those senators, Dr. James Dobson -- founder of Focus on the Family Action -- says "each and every one of them ignored the will of the overwhelming majority of their constituents." He notes that both the voice-mail and phone systems of the Senate were "flooded" by calls running 20-to-1 in favor of the FMA, but that the people's voices were ignored.

"[That] represents an egregious breach of the public trust that cannot and must not be tolerated," Dobson says in a news release. "The votes of these ... senators were a slap in the face of every American child."

Recent House Vote
Dr. Donald E. Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association (AFA), has toiled alongside Dobson and numerous other pro-family leaders during the fight for the Federal Marriage Amendment. Like many in that group, Wildmon predicted the FMA would be defeated in the Senate -- but that it would spell neither the death of the amendment itself nor the end of the battle to protect traditional marriage.

The AFA founder points out that the House version of the FMA is scheduled for September -- and that that elected group, in the wake of the Senate's denial of the FMA, approved by a 233-194 vote the Marriage Protection Act. That measure, viewed by some as a stop-gap measure until a constitutional amendment can be ratified protecting traditional marriage, removes from activists judges the power to declare the federal Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 unconstitutional.

Wildmon says he feels compelled to clarify the vote on the two measures so voters "will not be confused by all the rhetoric" they are bound to hear this fall from U.S. representatives who voted against the Marriage Protection Act.

"Both those for and those against [the Marriage Protection Act] saw it as a test vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment," says Wildmon. "Those who voted for the Marriage Protection Act...were voting against homosexual marriage. Those who voted against [it] were voting for homosexual marriage."

Wildmon urges all advocates of traditional marriage to find out how their House representatives voted on the Marriage Protection Act, then follow up by contacting them. "Time is drawing short, and we need to be active in this battle," he says.

Election Eve
Meanwhile, a third pro-family group -- the National Clergy Council -- is taking a different approach to informing voters about the issues of the day. That group is encouraging evangelical churches across the U.S. to use the Sunday before election day (October 31) to educate their congregations on the positions of each party's candidates on what it sees as three critical issues: the sanctity of human life, the sanctity of marriage, and the role of God in the life of the nation.

Representatives of the National Clergy Council announced the effort on Monday afternoon in Boston, site of the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

Bold Christian Faith Characterizes Tennessee Public Educator

by Jim Brown
July 26, 2004

(AgapePress) - A ninth-grade English teacher from Memphis, Tennessee, was recently named National Christian Educator of the Year. The honor went to Andrea Darlington, who sponsors "Student Impact" -- a 250-member Christian club -- at her large suburban high school in Germantown.

In the classroom, Darlington says she is very open about her faith and frequently explains biblical allusions in books like Pilgrim's Progress. She says English teachers have a forum that other teachers do not have, and can find in every genre of literature works that reveal biblical truth. The recently honored teacher cites one example.

"I teach subjects like The Tale of Two Cities, where Charles Dickens tells his story of the resurrection, that it's the cross that would cure the ills of France -- and I tell my students that," she explains. "They memorize the Bible verse that's in the book -- 'I am the resurrection and the life, sayeth the Lord' -- and they recite it in class."

Not all Christian teachers in the public realm are as bold as Darlington. She says it is unfortunate that many of her Christian colleagues are too intimidated to share their Christian faith in the classroom. She believes that instead, they should be using the freedom they have to let their students know of their faith.

"I've heard teachers say, 'Oh, I'm so proud of the fact that they don't know that I'm a Christian and they don't know my political scene,'" she shares. Not surprisingly, Darlington believes in a different approach.

"I think you need to let [students] know you're a Christian and let them know that you love [them] because it's Christ in you that enables you to do these things," the Vanderbilt University graduate says.

Because of her opposition to the liberal political agenda of the National Education Association, Darlington started the Memphis chapter of the Christian Educators Association 13 years ago. She has been teaching in Memphis public schools for 17 years.

Oklahoma Howdy to Bronzesnake,

Brother, I have no doubt at all about sharing THE CROSS and telling people about accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. My difficulty and prayers regard non-Salvation issues that are a controversy between brothers and sisters in Christ.

There is always an urgency to share the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel of God's Grace, regardless of an impending end times or not. I'm still praying about what topics to argue and how to argue them in a way that would be most pleasing to God. I have no doubts at all about shouting THE CROSS from the rooftops. Brother, the rest is still a matter of prayer.

Love In Christ,

Such is his Deception.  We have lost you. Your ignorant balsphemy another stepping stone on the path to hell. Well at least you are not alone.

RichardElchrist,

WOW!!! - You are a stand-up comedian. I must ask you if you attach some significance to the ending of your Internet name, "Christ".

You are certainly not an entity that can be blasphemed.

Your trying to equate the election of John Kerry to the Will of God is a huge joke.  This may come as a shock for you, but you don't speak for God. We all know that you believe yourself to be a prophet, but many will ask who you serve.

Richard, you are not the self-righteous judge of anyone here, especially the brothers and sister in Christ who see you for what you are. You're not a prophet - maybe a comedian or something lesser. In the meantime, get off of the backs of the brothers and sisters in Christ here.

You are beginning to show your true colors when you talk about YOU being blasphemed. You are just a man, probably in need of serious help. We might be able to help you and pray for you, but we won't be praying to you or be worried about blaspheming you.

You owe an apology to our Sister Reba and anyone else you have talked to in a like manner. Calm yourself and you will be allowed to stay.

57389  Theology / Bible Study / Ephesians 3 - Part 4 on: July 26, 2004, 07:51:54 PM
Ephesians 3 - Part 4

Ephesians 3:5  Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

Verse 5 Notes - So, now the TRUTH is being preached to the sons of men by one who has been enlightened by the Holy Spirit. The "sons of men" are the old men held captive by sin and death.  You will see many contrasts between the old man and the born again new man in Christ. The old man can only be set free, rescued, and saved from the captivity of sin and death by HEARING, believing, and having faith in the TRUTH. Jesus Christ is the ONLY TRUTH that will save the old man from the law of sin and death. Being born again as a new man in Christ involves the single and most important decision in a man or woman's short physical life on this earth. It is an absolute must to HEAR the WORD OF GOD and the ultimate TRUTH of JESUS CHRIST AND THE CROSS. It is important to note that the Holy Spirit continues to enlighten those who are born again. There is a beautiful comparison of those rescued from darkness and translated into the LIGHT. If the born again child yields to the Will and Purpose of God, the LIGHT becomes stronger and stronger. Each time the LIGHT grows stronger, increasing joy and peace results. The passing and corruptible things of this world become less and less important as the child of God is filled up with the LIGHT. The real and everlasting riches are not of this world, rather they are IN JESUS CHRIST, our Lord and Saviour for eternity. You will also see many contrasts between Israel, God's own, and Gentiles, the evil heathens that Jews were to avoid. Paul is a Jew, so his preaching of Christ to the Gentiles causes anger and wrath to be heaped upon himself. One must also remember that most of the Jews rejected Christ, so Paul was seen by most Jews as an enemy of God. Paul's life is seen as many dramatic contrasts. God used Paul to reveal many drastic contrasts, but one of the greatest was: (1) The Law, Israel, Circumcision versus (2) God's Grace, all of mankind, Uncircumcision. It is appropriate to say that Ephesians 3:9 involves the driving force of Paul's life. That driving force was Jesus Christ working in and through Paul, HIS willing and yielded servant. Please see:

Acts 10:28  And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Romans 16:25  Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

2 Timothy 1:10  But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
2 Timothy 1:11  Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

Titus 1:1  Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
Titus 1:2  In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Titus 1:3  But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

1 Peter 1:10  Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
1 Peter 1:11  Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
1 Peter 1:12  Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

Ephesians 2:20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

John 14:26  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Ephesians 2:11  Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Ephesians 2:12  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Ephesians 2:13  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Acts 11:18  When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Acts 13:46  Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Acts 13:47  For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
Acts 13:48  And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Galatians 2:7  But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
Galatians 2:8  (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

Ephesians 3 - Part 3

Ephesians 3:2  If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
Ephesians 3:3  How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Ephesians 3:4  Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

Verses 2-4 Notes - The GIFT of Jesus Christ as a sacrifice on the Cross is the ultimate GRACE and LOVE of Almighty God. Many beautiful truths about Jesus Christ were hidden from men in previous generations. The CROSS is the most precious and pivotal event in human history. This is the GOOD NEWS - that Jesus Christ, the Son of God made flesh, VERY GOD, died for all of us. It is pivotal because each of us can believe in Jesus Christ, accept the GOOD NEWS, and be SAVED from eternal destruction. Jesus Christ arose from the dead as a LIVING SAVIOUR for all who will accept HIM as LORD over their lives. Our faith in HIM means that our old man was buried, and our new man is alive forever in Jesus Christ. We are forgiven, redeemed, and purchased by the precious blood of Jesus Christ that HE shed for us on the CROSS. There were many mysteries about Jesus Christ that were not understood, even by those who were closest to HIM during HIS time on earth in the form of a man. Many of these mysteries were revealed to the Apostle Paul, including the eternal CHURCH WHICH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST, a church not built with human hands. It is a beautiful reality that born again NEW MEN become part of Christ's Body, the BODY OF CHRIST. It is important to note that no man knows the full might, majesty, and GLORY of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. However, having Jesus in our hearts is joy and peace beyond imagination.  Please see:

Ephesians 1:9  Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

Ephesians 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Ephesians 6:19  And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Colossians 1:9  For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Colossians 2:2  That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

Colossians 4:3  Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

1 Corinthians 2:6  Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
1 Corinthians 2:7  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

1 Corinthians 4:1  Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

1 Timothy 3:9  Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

1 Timothy 3:16  And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
