Jesus Christ unlocked the door to your prison cell. All you have to do is realize the door is unlocked and come out.

Marysol2103,

I would simply say:  If they are real, they are of the devil. In the vast majority of cases, they represent a con game that is against the law in most places. They are obviously against Biblical teaching.

JitC,

Maybe you are genuinely confused, but I suspect that trolling is the real culprit here.

Just in case you are genuinely confused, I'll tell you what Matthew 5:33-37 is talking about. It is about perjury and violation of oaths and vows. An oath or vow should be taken in all reverence, as to the LORD. An oath or a vow should never be taken lightly or in frivolous conversation. Perjury, in Biblical terms, is bearing false witness or false swearing. If the LORD's name is used in an oath or vow, it would be using the LORD's name in vain to NOT mean it in all reverence, as TO THE LORD. To do otherwise would be profane and using the LORD's name in vain.

Hint:  Perjury is against Biblical teaching and man's law. Using the LORD's NAME in vain and profane language is against Biblical teaching. It was against man's law in America, and it still is in many places.

There you go - incredibly simple.

Tom

Dear MalkyEL

Thank you but if you have nothing of your own writing, I appreciate you please stop just quoting the Word of God.

Blessings!

PhilKosba,

The WORD OF GOD will never be discouraged here. It will remain as the ultimate source for knowledge, instruction, and answers. Quotes from the Holy Bible are the ultimate answer and are MOST welcome here.

America's Terrorist Enemies Poised to Strike, Author Warns

by Allie Martin
September 23, 2004

(AgapePress) - A security expert believes the terrorism issue will decide the upcoming presidential election.

In his new book Counter-Terrorism Handbook How to Protect Yourself at Home and Abroad (Broadman & Holman, 2004), Phil Little outlines what the war on terrorism is about. He examines how people can remain safe on airplanes, in hotels, and in the streets around the world. He is convinced the U.S. must go after Islamic terrorists -- regardless of world opinion.

Little says it is time for America to "take the gloves off" and openly acknowledge the nature of the struggle against terrorism. "The politically correct thing has been not to call this a Muslim war," he says, "and it's not a Muslim war against Muslims. It's against some extremists."

The author notes that the German dictator Hitler was identified with the Christians in Germany, but nevertheless "killed Christians and Jews and everybody else" during his quest for world domination. "We went after him, and that didn't make every other German bad because Hitler was," Little says, "but we went and took him out. We have to do that same thing with the Islamic radical terrorists."

An expert in intelligence gathering and global terrorism, Little says the United States must go after Islamic terrorists with renewed force -- or face the prospect of a massive attack on U.S. soil. "It's either going to be briefcase nukes ... or it's going to be some kind of a weapon of mass destruction," he says. "They have the capability. They have the weapons."

The author says many of these weapons are already in the United States, along with people who have the capacity and will to use them. A domestic attack from America's terrorist enemies is imminent, he says, and "it's just going to be a matter of time, unless we take them out at the source."

Little believes the terrorism issue could very well be the deciding issue in the 2004 U.S. presidential election. Whatever happens, he contends, America must be committed to winning the war against terrorism at all costs.

House Approves Pledge Protection Act

by Mary Rettig and Jenni Parker
September 24, 2004

(AgapePress) - The U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to pass a bill that would strip the federal courts -- even up to the highest court in the land -- of the authority to remove the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Pledge Protection Act, which passed the House on a 247-to-173 vote, was designed to prevent any federal court, including the Supreme Court, from ruling on whether the words "under God" should be stricken from the Pledge of Allegiance. This measure enacts what is sometimes called "jurisdiction stripping or curbing jurisdiction." Specifically, the act states that, "No court established by Act of Congress shall have jurisdiction to hear or determine any claim that the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, as set forth in section 4 of title 4, violates the first article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States."

According to an Associated Press report, House Democrats objected to being forced to go on record with a vote that could hurt them in the upcoming election. But House Republican leaders say the Constitution gives Congress the authority to limit federal courts' jurisdiction, and that doing so in this case would protect an affirmation of God that is part of the national heritage. That claim has not been resolved in court.

A 'Much-Needed Step'
Pro-family groups are hailing the lawmakers' action. Paul Weyrich, chairman and CEO of the Free Congress Foundation, remarked recently that the act is a much-needed step in the effort to "bring back common sense legal arguments to judicial decisions." But unfortunately, Weyrich says, "While we know that 'under God' should be in the Pledge, a measure like this needs to be placed into law to stop activist federal judges."

Brian Fahling
Although some opponents claim the Constitution has been "debased" by the legislation, attorney Brian Fahling, senior policy advisor for the American Family Association Center for Law & Policy, points out that Congress acted completely within its authority -- and about time. In fact, Fahling says, in passing the Pledge Protection Act, Congress is "finally flexing its constitutional muscle" and has at last "taken a dramatic and necessary step toward restoring democratic rule in our nation." (Read Brian Fahling's commentary on this matter.)

Dr. Donald E. Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association, agrees that enacting the Republican-sponsored legislation was essential in order to protect the Pledge of Allegiance from those who would attempt to secularize it.

"I think it's time that the House and the Senate sent the Supreme Court a message loud and clear," Wildmon says, noting that, with this bill, that is just what the House has done. And the message it sends, he suggests, is this: "You are not the most powerful institution in this country. You are one of three, and we are tired of you stripping away rights which are reserved for the people.'"

Dr. Don Wildmon
The pro-family leader says this prerogative has been used several times before, including at least one time when it was invoked by a leading Democrat. "In fact," the AFA spokesman says, "none other than Senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota used this particular part of the Constitution to protect [legislation from attack] from the federal judges in a bill that he had passed last year."

That is why Wildmon feels it is ludicrous that House Democrats are now attacking Republicans on the bill limiting the Supreme Court's authority to change the pledge when one of their own has proposed a similar idea in the interest of protecting legislation of which he approved.

Wildmon is commending the House of Representatives for its approval of the Pledge Protection Act. However, he notes that the measure still has to get through Senate, where it has little chance of advancing this year.

57026  ChristiansUnite and Announcements / ChristiansUnite and Announcements / More Intellectual Diversity in Kremlin Than on U.S. Campuses on: September 25, 2004, 06:19:13 PM
(My Note:  It seems that the same is true for the "big boys" of the news media.)

More Intellectual Diversity in Kremlin Than on U.S. Campuses, Author Says

by Jim Brown
September 24, 2004

(AgapePress) - A conservative author and speaker says political donations by public university employees indicate just how widespread liberal bias in academia has become.

According to a study conducted by the student newspaper at Princeton University, more than 90 percent of political donations from employees at the Ivy League school have gone to liberal causes during this election cycle. The Daily Princetonian reports that Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry has received more than $40,000 from Princeton employees, while President Bush has received a single donation of $258.

That finding is consistent with recent Federal Election Commission reports on giving to presidential candidates. Dan Flynn, the author of Why the Left Hate America and a frequent speaker on college campuses, says one need only look at those reports to gauge the political leanings of university faculty.

"Amongst employees of Harvard University, 97 percent of all the donations went to John Kerry; three percent went to George W. Bush," Flynn says, adding that at William and Mary, the second oldest university in the country, "100 percent of all of the donations went to John Kerry's campaign."

Those proportions astonish Flynn. "The Kremlin had more intellectual diversity than that," he says.

Flynn, who is executive director of the Campus Leadership Program, offers another example of an underlying disdain for conservatism on America's college campuses. Promoters of his appearance at Gonzaga University in Washington state last year wanted to promote the event using the title of his book. That raised some eyebrows on campus.

"[T]hey were told that it was somehow 'hate speech' to print out the words 'Why the Left Hates America' [on promotional material]," he explains. "They got harassed by administrators and other students. Thankfully the event was held and common sense prevailed."

While admitting it is rather silly that university officials would even consider charging the College Republicans with hate speech simply for using the title of a conservative book, the author says it is par for the course on many college campuses today.

Flynn's upcoming book is likely to further ruffle the feathers of liberal academia. The title? Intellectual Morons: How Ideology Makes Smart People Fall for Stupid Ideas.

Gospel, CCM Artists Help 'Redeem the Vote'

by Allie Martin and Jenni Parker
September 24, 2004

(AgapePress) - A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization is enlisting the help of Christian music artists to encourage young people of faith to vote in order to exercise their voice and make a difference in society.

Redeem the Vote (RTV) was co-founded last year by Montgomery, Alabama's Dr. Randy Brinson as an answer to MTV's "Rock the Vote" campaign. The concerned citizen realized that, when it comes to cultural issues, far too many young believers today are simply not being reached. An alarming statistic bears this out: according to some estimates, there are 25 million Christians in America who are not registered to vote.

But after observing the impact of the MTV-sponsored voter registration and motivation drive known as "Rock the Vote," Brinson and his wife, Pam, felt challenged to emulate that success. "We saw how effective Rock the Vote is," he says. "We were involved with Christian radio, so we said, 'Well, why can't we get Christian artists to do the same thing?'"

The couple went to Nashville, Tennessee, and presented their idea to officials at the Gospel Music Association. "And they said that they loved it," the Alabama doctor says, and after that, a sort of domino effect began: "Christian radio got involved with it, the Christian artists got involved with it, and since that time we've just ballooned into this huge grassroots movement, involving about 500,000 people now."

Brinson estimates as many as 30,000 people have registered to vote at either the group's website or at one of its many concerts. And he has found that getting contemporary Christian music artists to help "sell" the idea of voting to young people as a Christian duty, a privilege and a good idea, works really well, because young people are strongly influenced by these artists as role models.

Among those artists who work with RTV are popular veterans and new faces, from Phil Keaggy, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Philips, Craig, and Dean to Rebecca St. James, Casting Crowns, and Natalie Grant. The music runs a gamut of diverse styles as well, from Jaci Velasquez and Anointed to Toby Mac, Chonda Pierce, Anointed and ZOEGirl.

The list is extensive, with musical flavors for every taste, and the RTV website is awash with photos of these Christian personalities, along with audio messages from several, urging young people to register, be aware of the issues, and voice their values.

There is also a written message from Brinson explaining to young people why their vote counts. Still, he counts heavily on Christian celebrities to inspire young voters to get involved in the political process.

"People get their information a lot from entertainers and sports figures and look to them as their heroes," the RTV founder says. "There is some polling data that has shown that with 40 percent of 18- to 24-year olds, if someone they endorse or they support tells them about something or supports a candidate, they are likely to vote the same way. So it's a very positive impact [the recording artists] can have."

With some half a million voters registered so far, RTV has made a good start on its objectives. But Brinson says it is only the beginning of the task at hand. On the movement's website he states, "Redeem the Vote wants to motivate the more than 25 million evangelical Christians who are not registered to vote and " mobilize those in the faith-based community to exercise their rights as citizens."

Former POW: Communication, Encouragement Key to Survival During Captivity

by Chad Groening
September 24, 2004

(AgapePress) - A retired Air Force pilot who spent nearly eight years in a North Vietnamese POW camp says his faith in God helped him through his long ordeal.

Col. Smitty Harris was shot down in April 1965 and became the sixth American prisoner of war of the Vietnam conflict. The Tupelo, Mississippi, resident remained a prisoner of the North Vietnamese until February 1973. Harris says communication with fellow POWs -- many of whom were placed in solitary confinement -- was a key to survival.

Smitty Harris
(Compliments of StolenHonor.com)
"It helped create good morale," Harris recalls. "There's just no end to the value of that communication."

How did they communicate? "I had learned a tap code and shared it with the other POWs -- and it was used throughout the rest of the time we were there," he says.

The former POW says using that tap code, the POWs were able to encourage each other about things that were important. "It started out with a belief in God, a belief in our country, a belief in our countrymen, a belief in our military associates, [and] finally [a belief in] our families and good friends back stateside," he says.

The esprit de corps among the prisoners, he adds, included a belief in following the chain of command as well, something Harris says they were able to establish as well through their communications processes.

Harris is one of 17 former POWs appearing in a new video titled Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal, which investigates how John Kerry's anti-war activities prolonged their incarceration in Vietnam. (See related article)

Brother Love,

A host of Christians are praying for the people in the path of the hurricanes, including me.

I pray especially for those families who will lose loved ones and for those who will lose everything they have without insurance. I know from experience that many elderly people have their homes paid for and can't afford insurance. Many already need food, water, and shelter, and that's before the next hurricane hits tonight.

A host of Christians are already bound together in prayer and helping in any way that is possible.

Love In Christ,
Tom

I think that I'd be a grisly bear without my coffee.   Grin
