56341  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Prophecy and End Time Series. - Israel on: December 23, 2004, 12:54:10 AM
Raphu,

Brother, thanks for your input and addition to this study. This is a fascinating, but extremely difficult study. I give thanks that many brothers and sisters can discuss this topic with peace and interest, even though there are many varying opinions.

I realize there are many brothers and sisters who don't consider Bible prophecy to be literal, rather parables for some other purpose or spiritualized for purposes other than reality that will happen in the future. That's fine, as having Jesus as Lord and Saviour is thousands of times more important than trying to study and understand Bible prophecy.

I fit into the category of people who feel that Bible prophecy is literal reality that will be fulfilled to the letter in the future. My belief is based on many Old Testament prophecies that have already been fulfilled to the letter and in ALL REALITY. I like to study and discuss Bible prophecy, mainly because it is in the Bible for a purpose. I enjoy it when brothers and sisters in Christ can come together in peace and share varying opinions.

I believe the Bible clearly teaches that this current age and dispensation of the Grace of God will end. Further, I believe we may be living in a time where the end of this age is near. Many people disagree about timing, sequence of events, and major events which might or might not happen at the end of this age. Regardless, there are HUGE events that will most certainly take place. Most Christians agree that Jesus Christ will come again, but they may disagree about the purpose and specific event:

1.  Rapture of the Church which is the BODY OF CHRIST is one such major event. Some don't believe this event will take place, and others disagree about the timing of this MOST MAJOR EVENT. I believe the RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH will happen before the TRIBULATION PERIOD. The Holy Spirit (Restrainer) will be removed from this earth during the Rapture of the Church. The powers of darkness and the anti-Christ will be unleashed.

2.  Many people believe that the tribulation period talked about in the Holy Bible has either already happened, a parable, or simply another spiritualized message for another purpose. I believe it is a literal 7 year period of time yet to come. Further, I believe that time may be soon.

3.  Many people believe that the anti-Christ is a condition or groups of people, as opposed to a single personification of evil called the Beast and the anti-Christ. I understand the group or mass thoughts, but I believe the Holy Bible clearly teaches that "THE ANTI-CHRIST" will be revealed at or near the end of this age, and the earth will suffer destruction and misery beyond human imagination.

4.  As I said, most Christians believe in the Second Coming of Christ, but they may disagree with the timing or the list of events associated with this HUGE AND PRECIOUS EVENT. There will be a cleansing of evil, and hosts will see and feel HIS TERRIBLE SWIFT SWORD.

5.  There is confusion about the rule and reign of Christ, rightfully so. Many don't believe the Bible refers to more than one throne. All Christians know and believe that Jesus Christ is LORD OF LORDS, KING OF KINGS, and sits on a Heavenly Throne. The Kingdom of God is already a reality, HE lives in our hearts, and we already belong to HIS Heavenly Kingdom. The confusion and disagreement regards the second throne mentioned in the Holy Bible, the Throne of David. Many people spiritualize the 1,000 year rule and reign of Christ, usually thinking that 1 day is as 1,000 years, so a parable such as this would indicate or imply infinity.

Here's what I believe, but I have no wish to argue or have any contention with other brothers and sisters in Christ:

1.  The Throne of GOD in Heaven is not the Throne of David;

2.  The Throne of David will be an earthly throne in Jerusalem;

3.  Jesus Christ will sit on the earthy Throne of David in Jerusalem and rule and reign over the earth for a literal 1,000 years;

4.  The Kingdom of God and the Millennial Kingdom are two separate and distinct things;

5.  The Kingdom of God is already reality, but the Millennial Kingdom will not begin until the end of the Tribulation Period.

Please, I don't say any of these things for argument, to hurt  feelings, or to have any contention of any kind with any brother or sister in Christ. I say them simply as a matter of discussion and study. I didn't mention some other MAJOR EVENTS that will most certainly happen at God's appointed time. This is more than enough to think about. I'll give you a couple of hints. (a)  Armageddon is not a parable or spiritualized event. The world's most horrible and destructive battles will happen and be reality. Great portions of the earth's entire population will be killed. (b)  The "mark of the beast" is not a parable or spiritualized message for some other purpose. The "mark of the beast" will become a terrible reality during the Tribulation Period.  (c)  Israel will become the greatest and most feared nations on earth. All of the promises God made to Israel thousands of years ago will be fulfilled to the letter. (d) Resurrection and Judgment involving the number and timing of events.

Love In Christ,
Tom

AMEN SYMPHONY!!

Sister Nana, I really don't know much about the people or ministries you mentioned. I have seen and heard a little bit about Binny Hinn.

I saw a MAJOR ISSUE in your post that jumped off the page at me. It, alone, is what I concentrated on. Jesus Christ is, was, and always will be ALMIGHTY GOD, THE CREATOR!! Jesus Christ did take the form of a man, walk this earth, and die for us on the CROSS, BUT HE WASN'T JUST A MAN!! Jesus Christ was NOT created, nor was HE made into a god (little "g"). Jesus Christ IS GOD, and HE Lives today, yesterday to infinity, and tomorrow to infinity. I won't judge any of the people or ministries you mentioned, mainly because I don't know what they teach and believe.

HOWEVER, I will say with all boldness and bluntness that we should ignore and turn off anyone who denies that Jesus Christ is VERY GOD. It is blasphemy is say that Jesus Christ was a brother of Lucifer, created, or somehow elevated to something HE was not before. Jesus Christ always was and always will be ALMIGHTY GOD. This is a very simple test Christians should and can use. Anyone who teaches otherwise is working for the devil. It's just as simple as that.

I don't think that the bold statement above should cause any strife or division in THE BODY OF CHRIST. If you are a real Christian, you know that Jesus is GOD. If you don't know or believe that Jesus is GOD, you are not a Christian - just as simple and blunt as that. When one uses the name of JESUS, they are using the name of GOD. If someone is doing something for or in the name of a JESUS who is not GOD, they ARE NOT working for GOD.

Love In Christ,
Tom

56343  Theology / Apologetics / Re:Drugs on: December 22, 2004, 10:31:18 PM
Brothers and Sisters,

I would like to add 2 cents worth here. I would first like to thank those who have posted what the Bible has to say about this topic that represents a plague of destruction and an obvious tool of the devil.

The debate rages on by many Christians about alcohol, but no so much when the subject is drugs. BUT, alcohol is a drug, a very destructive one. Some would remind others that Paul told Timothy to take a little bit of wine for his stomach problems. Wine does have some medicinal qualities and values. In fact, small quantities of wine are still prescribed by doctors for a variety of physical illnesses. Paul did not tell Timothy to get drunk, and many other portions of Paul's ministry make it exceptionally clear that being sober in the things of the LORD is the ONLY right and Biblical thing.

Brother Joshua, you already made an excellent point that deserves a lot of attention. Many people think that a little bit in moderation is OK, but many of those same people get sucked into the devil's snare and become slaves to substances. It then becomes a tool to destroy by the devil.

I would like to tell you what I think, from the perspective of 25 years in law enforcement. Alcohol and drugs are the scourge and plague of mankind. Death, torment, suffering, and destruction are visited upon just about all families in some degree. For many families, the degree is high, unbearable, and represents an evil tool to torment people, punish them, and destroy them. It does many times begin with just a sip or an experiment. One of the biggest lies anyone can tell is "I can handle my alcohol or drug use." NO, YOU CAN'T! Drugs and/or alcohol may already be your master when you make that statement. In fact, your family may already be suffering from the evil effects of substance abuse when you make that statement.

Some people use other excuses for the use of alcohol that might have been true to some extent 2,000 years ago and in many backward places today. Water is not safe to drink, and the fermentation process in wine with the alcohol content makes it safe to drink. This statement opens a can of worms that is hard to close, but there are many questions involving this issue that we probably don't have the answers for. What was the percent alcohol content of the wine talked about in the Bible? Was it anywhere near the extremely strong wines that are made today?

There are other questions that must be considered in the debate over alcohol. This is a raging debate in many churches this minute for many reasons. Real wine instead of just grape juice is used by many churches in the taking of communion. Many churches have replaced the real wine with grape juice for many reasons. First, most of us no longer have the excuse that the water is unsafe to drink. Second, there are Biblical concerns to consider about what any alcohol use might lead to. Third, there are concerns of testimony to consider. The debate rages on.

Let me quickly address testimony of a Christian. Does a Christian want his or her children to see them drinking alcohol or using drugs? Do we want our children to think it is OK to use alcohol and/or drugs for recreational purposes. "Recreational purposes" is really an interesting term, and it is filled with potential problems. What does this mean? Well, some say it means to relax, but how does it make them relax? I'll tell you - you are no longer sober, you start losing your inhibitions of right and wrong, and you actually turn off and impair portions of your brain. "BUT, I know when to quit" is another big lie that you tell yourself and your family. Maybe you are telling yourself that you are OK because you haven't beaten your wife and children or wrecked your car YET. Are you interested in your testimony before your family and other people in CHRIST? Ask yourself what it means to others when they see you buying or consuming alcohol and/or drugs. If you say "NOTHING", you are lying to yourself again. It does mean something, and that something is negative.

PLEASE, don't think that I'm trying to condemn all people who use alcohol. BUT, you know that there are valid issues to consider when you use even light wine. Those issues are real, and they won't go away.

Soapbox mode off. Come dog pile me now and give me a good beating.   Cheesy

Love In Christ,
Tom

56345  Theology / Debate / Re:Athiests, etc who celebrate Christmas on: December 22, 2004, 03:57:19 PM
Saved_4Ever,

My family does give gifts at Christmas, but I doubt the commercial giants depend on us much. Many of our gifts are homemade, food that we enjoy together, family pictures, things that we need, or small things that are personal. What something costs is not important. My grandsons may make me something, and I will treasure that more than any expensive gift, simply because it was made by their own little hands.

I give thanks that many people do volunteer work and give gifts to the Salvation Army, Hospice, Goodwill, children's shelters, homes for battered women, nursing homes, homes for the handicapped, hospitals, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, soup kitchens, evangelism outreach programs, missionaries all over the world, your local church, food banks, shelters for the homeless, the Gideons, and a host of other worthy labors for the Lord.

I think that it is essential for all children to know there are many people less fortunate, in need, hungry, without homes, and without God. If you give them a gift, tell them where all of our gifts come from - GOD! If you give your children a gift, teach them also how and why they should give to others. If you ever mention the word "gift", talk about the most precious GIFT, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Most of our children have already received this GIFT. If not, helping them understand and accept that GIFT should be the heaviest burden on the hearts of their parents. The same would be true of other family members and friends. This is the biggest and most precious GIFT, and it's already been paid for by the Blood of JESUS on the CROSS.

The things of the LORD are always the best gifts for Christians to give. Maybe it's a Bible, a Christian book, gospel music, and other gifts that keep on giving. Maybe it's nothing but a hug and saying "I love you."

Love In Christ,
Tom

Tidings of Great Joy - Part Two

JESUS is not a fictional character in a Christmas story. JESUS is real, and HE is our Living Lord and Saviour, Almighty God. JESUS is offering you the greatest and most precious GIFT in existence, HIMSELF!

I loved my grandfather dearly, and I still enjoy listening to and reading his messages from God's Word. Please take a moment and enjoy a timeless message from God's Word.

WHAT ONE MUST DO TO BE SAVED

By Ike T. Sidebottom

Men, women, young people, boys and girls are never saved in mass movement. Too often people throng to the alter in evangelistic meetings and make empty confessions. One follows another, and they are as “the blind leading the blind.” They all fall into the ditch together.

Only the moving power of the Holy Spirit can impress upon the minds and hearts of the unsaved sinners the eternal and unalterable truth of the following scriptures.

“For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” (Eccl. 7:20)
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jer. 17:9)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Rom. 3:23)
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23)

Any unsaved person, with a normal mind, having read and thought upon these verses, cannot escape being touched by the truth of them. The honest heart will immediately realize that these verses apply to every one in the human family.

As you read these lines, will you be honest with yourself? Will you be honest with God? Will you read these verses again, and again? Will you think soberly, weighing the contents of each verse, and taking each verse as written directly unto you?

If you have ever thought of yourself as being a just person; and one that doeth good, and sinneth not: then remember that your opinion of yourself clashes with the unalterable Word of God. He says you are not just, you cannot do good and live apart from sin. I urge you to bow before the Word of truth, accept it without a reservation, and take your place as an unjust sinner, standing in need of God’s mercy and grace.

Have you ever considered the fact, that as a member of the human family, as one of that great number described in the Bible as mankind, you have a deceitful heart that is desperately wicked. Yes, our hearts, both yours and mine, are not only deceitful, but “deceitful above all things.” Our hearts are not only wicked, but “des-perately wicked.”

The thing that is most important for us to learn, is that we can do nothing about this terrible condition. We are wholly dependent upon God’s mercy and grace. Apart from His mercy, we would have been in hell long ago. Apart from His grace, we would, at this present time, be entirely without hope.

Perhaps you feel that your clean, moral life; your good works; your membership in some church or lodge; or the fact that you give liberally to the church, to charity, etc., should be sufficient to give you a standing before God. Be not deceived by such thoughts. God has spoken, and His Word is that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Without Christ, the very best of people are far short of His glory.

The last verse in the above quotations carries the one hope for you, or for any other member of the human family. Even though, the wages of our sin brings eternal death to our souls, God has provided for the quickening, or making alive of those who are dead in trespasses and sins. This quickening power is in His love gift to the world, even the gift of His own dear Son. God’s gift of eternal life to sinners is included in the gift of His Son.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name Of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)

The truth in these verses cannot be measured in heights nor depths, in length nor breadth. The only begotten Son of the Father came down from the heights of glory to live among men. He humbled Himself and became “obedient unto death, even the death of the cross,” which took Him to the depths of hell, as our substitute. The love manifested at Calvary reaches to the east, to the west, to the north, to the south, even as far as the habitation of any lost soul. The “whoso-ever” of the above quotation includes you, it included me, it included all who have lived from the day of Adam to the last man that shall live on the earth.

I would like to emphasize to any unsaved person reading these lines that you are not numbered among the unsaved because of any or all of the sins you have committed. The Word says, “he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” He does not say that people are condemned because they are guilty of this sin or that sin, but because they have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

We need to remember that the only difference between the saved and the unsaved is that the saved have the Saviour, and the unsaved have no Saviour. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Therefore all are condemned. Every son of Adam, who has reached the age of accountability, stands condemned before God until he or she believes in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I trust that our unsaved readers will not hesitate to believe. Regardless of what your sins may be, even if you have gone into the very mire of sin, do not hesitate to trust Him who died for your sins. His blood cleanses from all sins.

I also hope that you will not feel that it is necessary for you to be in some revival meeting or some church gathering in order to be saved. You do not even need to be in the presence of a preacher. You only need to realize your lost and undone condition, as set forth in the first list of quotations mentioned above, and then believe that which is set forth in the last list of verses quoted above.

In closing I say to you, in all sincerity, that which Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4:

“I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

Tidings of Great Joy - Part One:

Luke 2:4  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Luke 2:5  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
Luke 2:6  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
Luke 2:7  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:8  And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luke 2:9  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
Luke 2:10  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Luke 2:11  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:12  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Luke 2:13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Luke 2:14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:15  And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
Luke 2:16  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
Luke 2:17  And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
Luke 2:18  And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
Luke 2:19  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:20  And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Luke 2:21  And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:22  And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
Luke 2:23  (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
Luke 2:24  And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
Luke 2:25  And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
Luke 2:26  And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Luke 2:27  And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Luke 2:28  Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Luke 2:29  Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
Luke 2:30  For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Luke 2:31  Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
Luke 2:32  A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Luke 2:33  And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
Luke 2:34  And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
Luke 2:35  (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

I am still studying your first series of posts. I must tell you that I am enjoying them. They are timely any time of the year, but they seem to be most timely this time of year. For whatever reason, Christmas time appears to be a very sad time for many people, especially people without Jesus or people who have many of the hurts you have described and addressed.

I want to thank you again for your messages of hope. I pray that many hurting people read and study the posts you have made here.

I don't think that the television and media folks have a clue about how many Christians celebrate Christmas. They are more in tune about how the world, not Christians, celebrate Christmas.

For many Christians, Christmas simply means bigger and longer worship services, special church and family gatherings to eat together, give thanks, and share the love of Jesus. For many Christians, Christmas really is a time for joy, thanksgiving, and sharing happiness in Jesus. Our fun always involves the Bible, singing worship songs, prayer, and things the world does not understand or appreciate. We've already been given the biggest and most precious GIFT in existence, JESUS CHRIST! The best personal gifts we give each other is Christian fellowship. The material gifts we give each other are usually small and insignificant. However, the children don't think so. Cheesy

There are a few television shows that come fairly close to describing what many Christians do or try to do every day - share the love of JESUS with others. However, they may be more motivated and try harder at Christmas. After all, this is a time that we celebrate the Birth of Jesus. There are a lot of special things that families and churches do during this time of the year that the world would not view as fun, but we do.

Many folks don't think that it is possible for Christians to laugh and have fun. That would be another television stereotype, and it simply isn't true. Christians simply have fun in different ways than the world. Christians don't need alcohol and other substances to get happy and have fun. Maybe that's why the world thinks that Christians are dull, boring, never have any fun, and never laugh. WELL, I've got a NEWS FLASH! - Our clean fun is MORE FUN - and we can legally drive when we leave the party.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Titus 2:11-14  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Pastor Roger,

A SECOND AMEN!!

I struggle with this daily. If Christians are honest with themselves, this should be a struggle every day of our lives until JESUS takes us home. We really don't have a chance of obeying God with the love HE has commanded unless we pray that HE helps us and guides us.

I love your message and want to share a precious portion of His Word that goes with the topic of love.

Matthew 22:36  Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Matthew 22:38  This is the first and great commandment.
Matthew 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Love is not only what God wants, God has commanded it. I was just thinking about what joy and peace there would be if we all prayed that God helps and guides us in how we treat other people every day of our lives.

Brother, you are completely right that every day should be a day that we celebrate JESUS and share the joy that only HE can give with our friends, family, and the lost. Not just Christmas - every day.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Jesus has a table spread
Where the saints of God are fed,
He invites His chosen people, “Come and dine”;
With His manna He doth feed
And supplies our every need:
O ’tis sweet to sup with Jesus all the time!

“Come and dine,” the Master calleth, “Come and dine”;
You may feast at Jesus’ table all the time;
He Who fed the multitude, turned the water into wine,
To the hungry calleth now, “Come and dine.”

The disciples came to land,
Thus obeying Christ’s command,
For the Master called unto them, “Come and dine”;
There they found their heart’s desire,
Bread and fish upon the fire;
Thus He satisfies the hungry every time.

Soon the Lamb will take His bride
To be ever at His side,
All the host of Heaven will assembled be;
O ’twill be a glorious sight,
All the saints in spotless white;
And with Jesus they will feast eternally.

Pastor Roger,

ANOTHER AMEN BROTHER!

This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us.

I love to think about the day Jesus will come for us and take us home forever. That will be a day of unspeakable JOY in JESUS.

Brother, until then, I pray that all of God's children will feed upon HIS WORD and put the things of the LORD first in their lives. When we do, God gives us joy and peace, even in this short journey we must finish here.

Brother, I was just thinking about all of the people who are sad, depressed, and without hope in this world. Especially during this time of the year, Christians enjoy a special time of JOY IN JESUS with their friends and family. We have much to give thanks for, especially that HE died for us and rescued us from the curse of sin and death. I pray that every day will also be a time that we have a heavy burden on our hearts for the lost. We know what the GOOD NEWS did for us, and I pray that we share the GOOD NEWS with others.

I love to hear about people accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. I love to be reminded about what God has already done for me and my family. Christians have already been given the most precious and greatest GIFT that can be given, and JESUS is holding out HIS nail-scarred hands to offer HIMSELF to all of the sad, depressed, and suffering people of this earth.

Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable GIFT, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour Forever!

The love and knowledge of JESUS is the most precious GIFT that any Christian can give, not just at Christmas, but every day God gives us until JESUS takes us home.

Love In Christ,
Tom
