Prayer / General Discussion / Ease and Comfort?
|
on: May 24, 2007, 06:43:06 AM

"Our Christianity loves its ease and comfort too well to take up anything so rough and heavy as a cross. And yet what does following Jesus mean? What is it to walk in His steps?" Charles Sheldon In His Steps Published by Books Inc.

Prayer / General Discussion / Re: The Sunday School
|
on: May 21, 2007, 09:27:25 PM
|
Perhaps the biggest blow at the Sunday School was when Churches decided that Sunday School was just for kids and decided to replace it with Jr. Church.
One thing I note is that in spite of all the Christian T.V. programs, the thousands of Christian books and one service church programs, there is a drought in Biblical knowledge in our churches.

Prayer / General Discussion / The Sunday School
|
on: May 20, 2007, 03:02:41 PM

"Why do men, when they want to characterize something as particularly feeble, always use a Sunday-school as a comparison when they ought to know that the Sunday-school is one of the strongest, most powerful influences in our civilization in the country to-day?" Charles Sheldon In His Steps Published by Books Inc.

thanks for your reply Pastor Rogers, however I was wondering if you agree with Dr. Luther or do you believe the verses you quoted disagree with his statement.

."I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified, and kept me in the one true faith ." - Martin Luther

Prayer / General Discussion / Re: Christian Chat rooms
|
on: May 12, 2007, 06:27:10 AM
|
I don't go to chat rooms. I have pretty well stuck with the forum. However, I would suppose in a chat room one should not give out any personal information. Giving out personal information is dangerous on the Inter Net at the best of times. After all communication is open to the public. I had a friend, who worked at one of the top Canadian Banks tell me that she would never bank on line because she didn't know who was reading the e-mails she was sending out. I don't bank on line, even though her bank is offering higher interest just now if you switch to on line banking.
I keep pretty general in giving out my location. Also remember that all Chat Lines, Forums etc. are monitored by the police and other authorities looking for information. They are able to pretty well trace the author even though you use a code name. One should not meet personally with any one from a chat line or a forum. It is a sad time we live in, but the old adage "don't trust strangers" is getting more important all the time.
As for Christian forums and I suppose Chat Rooms as well, there are a lot of folks on there who are new to the faith, some who are mixed up with cults, and some are just out to get into an arguement going. This is a major problem for those who are new to the faith and looking for serious advice. Here again it is buyer beware. Check the scriptures to be sure that the information you are reading on line is correct. It never hurts to run it by a Christian Friend or your pastor before swallowing it hook line and sinker.
I also encourage young people not to go looking for dates or marriage partners on Line either. More than one young person has found the person they were communicating with was not the type they were lead to believe they were talking too. There is many a con-artist even on Christian sites.

Prayer / General Discussion / The Man At The Gate Of The Year.....
|
on: March 22, 2007, 05:39:17 PM
|
"I said to the Man at the gate of the year, ‘Give me a lamp, that I might see the way.’ "He said to me, ‘Put your hand into the hand of God. That will be to you better than a lamp, and more sure than a known way.’ "
King George VI quoted a poem in his 1939 Christmas message

Prayer / General Discussion / The Workings of A Permissive Society
|
on: February 26, 2007, 06:58:33 AM
|
"In a permissive society the rights of the individual are considered to be above those of society as a whole. The person’s private conduct is said to be almost sacrosanct. He or she is permitted to do even the most despicable things without accountability to others. All sorts of legal mechanisms are put in place to protect the so-called civil liberties of the individual, even though his or her conduct be most unethical or even immoral and destructive to others." ---W. Philip Keller ***** Predators in Our Pulpits ( A book that every Christian must read.)

Prayer / General Discussion / God's People should be separate
|
on: February 21, 2007, 06:14:55 PM
|
"God’s people should be separate from the world in spirit and conduct. ... Habits, which influence others wrongly, ought to be given up, even though harmless to those who practice them.
The body is to be honoured and treated as God’s dwelling-place, and hence should not be polluted or injured.
It is reasonable that seekers after Holiness should completely renounce everything wrong or doubtful."
Quoted from a old book of Doctrine of the Salvation Army.

Fellowship / You name it!! / Re: GUESS WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??????!?

Thanks! Ok everybody. Here's the deal. I've got 2 girls and a wife. Needless to say, the testosterone levels at my home are in great danger of being overrun . I NEED a boy. I WANT a boy. PLEASE PRAY FOR A BOY!!! Seriously speaking though, a healthy baby is all I want. I've got 2 great girls, so 1 more won't make me tooooooooo sad. But I'd be happy as pie for a boy! So what happens if God decides that the child should be handi capped in some manner? I am not trying to be funny. It takes special parents to lovingly care for a handi capped child. We all want the healthy child but how do you think you would deal with a one that is not?

Prayer / General Discussion / Not A Once-For-all-Experience
|
on: February 11, 2007, 07:23:47 AM
|
"Repentance is not a once-for-all experience that takes place only at the time of initial conversion. It is in fact a daily sacrifice in which we see ourselves as we really are in the white, intense light of Christ’s character and His Word, so that we need to turn to Him for cleansing and for forgiveness."
