16  Prayer / General Discussion / Re: WHOSE GOSPEL ARE YOU PREACHING? on: November 09, 2007, 08:34:23 AM
I agree with you, Steph. However I am also reminded that we are without excuse either for we have the Bible and if a minister's preaching and life doesn't match then we are to shun him as we would any other cult leader. The Bible is final word and therefore it leaves us with no excuse.

Good to hear from you, Steph. Have a good day in the Lord.

"Love mercy? There is no mercy in decisions that end the lives of 110,000 pre-born children every year, or in evil messages that can corrupt the minds of adolescents: the lie that there will be no consequences from immoral or unnatural behaviour."

19  Prayer / General Discussion / An Open Letter to Canada's Prime Minister Harper on: October 27, 2007, 03:08:36 PM
(For the benefit of those outside of the Canadian News Realm, let me explain the back ground of the letter which follows.

Abortion has been legal in Canada for 20 years or so now. Millions of babies have died at the hands of the Abortionist, in this time frame.

Recently in Toronto, a Muslim mother was shot even though she was not involved in the gun play that was going on in her neighbourhood.

Canadian Police have charged the shooter with the murder of the mother, but refused to charge him with the murder of the baby, saying only that Canadian law doesn't recognize the fetus as a person.

Since Muslims like Christians believe that life begins at conception the News Media announced earlier this week that the family would appeal to Prime Minister Harper personally for changes to Canadian law.

Thus I too appealed to him and all politicians in our government, for abortion is not the problem of just one religion. It is the sin of a nation for as long as it goes on.

The Honourable Prime Minister Harper
Langevin Block
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, ON
Canada

Dear Sir:

It has come to my attention that  one of the recent murders in Toronto has included a Moslem mother who was 8 months pregnant.

I am told the police have charged the killer with only murder, that of  the mother, while completely excluding her child.  The reason given to the family for this action was that under Canadian Law the baby is not a person because he or she is still in the fetal stage of growth. The law is wrong and off at this point since life morally and medically begins at conception.

The Canadian law allowing mass murder of the pre born children was dumped on Canadians by our Supreme Count  back in Mr. Mulroney’s days in office. Mr. Mulroney did nothing to correct the situation, so it is now long over due that  babies be protect from conception until birth.

I am pleading with you and your government to please correct our Canadian Law and there by make it illegal by  Law and under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to terminate any Canadian’s life  from conception to death by natural causes.

According to the C.T.V. News Board Cast this family is planning to appeal to you personally for a change in the law, I am asking that you will make the necessary change for them and every unborn baby that will follow this child’s murder.

Please note, Mr. Harper that abortion is not just the concern of the Muslim Community, and the Holy Qur’an. It is  the concern of every Christian as well, since the Holy Bible also declares human life sacred and warns that any  nation living in sin will be judged for it.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

20  Prayer / General Discussion / Holiness is not... on: July 26, 2007, 06:36:34 AM
"First of all, Holiness is not necessarily a state in which there is perpetual, rapturous joy. Isaiah 53:3 tells us that Jesus was a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief’…."
2.  Holiness is not a state of freedom from temptation.
Paul tells us that Jesus was tempted in all points as we are,…"
3.Holiness is not a state of freedom from infirmities. It (holiness) does not produce a perfect head but a perfect heart.
4.Holiness is not a state of freedom from affliction. The saints of all ages have been chosen ‘in the furnace of affliction’ (Isaiah 35:10). Job and Jeremiah and Daniel and Paul and the mighty army of martyrs have, and shall always come up through great tribulations.
5.  Holiness is not a state in which there is no further development. When the heart is purified it develops more rapidly than ever before. Spiritual development comes through the revelation of Jesus Christ in the heart, and the holy soul is in a condition to receive such revelations constantly, and since the finite can never exhaust the infinite, these revelations will continue for ever and prove an increasing and never-ending source of development.
6.  ….Holiness is a state of conformity to the divine nature. God is love, and there is a sense in which a holy man can be said to be love. He is like God, not in God’s natural perfection of power and wisdom and knowledge and omnipresence, in patience, humility, self-control, purity of heart and love. As the drop out of the ocean is like the ocean, not in its bigness, but in its essence, so is the holy soul like God…."

21  Prayer / General Discussion / A ‘must-read’ doctoral dissertation on: July 18, 2007, 06:17:47 PM
"This week, I’ve set myself what looks like a doubly impossible task: to digest a 200-page legal treatise into a single page—that’ll be hard!—and to explain why I found it to be utterly compelling—that’ll be much easier, but still a strain on the space available.

Let me start by introducing the author: Dr. Charles Lugosi, a Canadian who has been teaching law at two American universities. The document he has written, Conforming to the Rule of Law, is rooted in American constitutional jurisprudence—but it has great relevance for Canada. Subtitled When ‘Person’ and ‘Human Being’ Mean the Same Thing in 14th Amendment Jurisprudence, it was deemed so important by the scholarly journal Issues in Law & Medicine that they combined two quarterly issues to publish it.

In a nutshell, Dr. Lugosi says the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution bears a similar purpose to Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms: to protect people from discrimination and harm. Its provisions have been extended to include the artificial “persons” known as corporations—but its protections are withheld from pre- born children.

Drawing on history and on legal precedent, Dr. Lugosi shows that the U.S. Supreme Court could apply the 14th Amendment to pre-born children… if it chose to. The decision not to do so, he ably demonstrates, is a political—not legal—choice.

Many similar cases dot past legal history; here are just two:

• In 1857, in the Dred Scott case, Chief Justice Taney of the U.S. Supreme Court—himself a slaveholder—ruled that Black people were not “persons” under the American Constitution: because they were “inferior”, he ruled, slavery was actually for their own benefit.

• In 1927, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that women were not “persons” under the law. A group of Alberta women—the “Famous Five” whose statues now grace Parliament Hill—successfully appealed that absurd decision.

Dr. Lugosi’s thesis (alas, I really cannot do it justice in this small space) is that if our society desires to be considered just, pre-born children—living human beings according to biology, science, logic and natural law—must be treated as full “persons”. The right to life is foundational to all other rights; and makes a superior claim to any other rights demanded by others.

To allow the life and body of such a person to be used or disposed of for the benefit or convenience of any other person, says Dr. Lugosi, is no different than the odious institution of slavery—which, thanks to a Christian politician named William Wilberforce, was abolished throughout the British Empire in 1833. What few people know is that slavery was abolished in Upper Canada by Lord Simcoe—also a Christian—in 1793.

If enough of us care enough, Canada can once again lead the world in protecting rights, by granting to our most helpless citizens—pre-born children—the right to life. At the moment, only one federal political party—the CHP— advocates this important policy. All the parties now in Parliament official consider it OK to kill 110,000 babies a year for the “crime” of being conceived at an inconvenient time.

Surely we can do better

22  Prayer / General Discussion / Re: A Unscriptural and Dangerous Doctrine on: July 15, 2007, 05:38:37 PM
Hello Amisk,

This would simply be a matter of opinion. This is debated in detail in several threads already on the forum, and it will always be a matter of opinion. There are good and Biblical arguments on both sides.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Hi Tom:

Call it a matter of opinion if one likes. On the other hand one had better be sure that it is not more than an opinion for one's eternal soul depends on it.

"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin." John 8: 31-34  Smiley

23  Prayer / General Discussion / A Unscriptural and Dangerous Doctrine on: July 14, 2007, 09:09:38 PM
"It is a unscriptural and dangerous doctrine that there is any state of grace in this world from which we cannot fall. Probation does not end the moment we believe in Jesus, but rather when we quit the body."

24  Prayer / General Discussion / I have made a covenant with mine eyes on: July 08, 2007, 12:27:43 AM
"There are some things that a Christian should not look at, and if by chance his eyes should fall upon them, they should be turned away quickly lest sin should get into his heart through the eye-gate. Everyone who wishes to be holy will say with Job, ‘I made a covenant with mine eyes.’ (Job 31:1)"

25  Prayer / General Discussion / Re: PLEASE HELP ME on: July 01, 2007, 03:35:12 PM
Welcome to this fine Forum Donna. I too am fairly new here as well.

I have really no criticism of what Tom has written, however I might add a few thoughts.

I would say to you that in even contemplating marriage with this gentleman, you are taking on a big risk for your future live. From what you have said about him, he doesn't have too good a tract record.

He is divorced. He has been living in a common-in-law relationship and therefore marriage hasn't really been much of a commitment to him. You will likely find that he is not committed to your marriage either.

Remember marriage is a life time agreement. It is perhaps one of the few contracts in life in which there are no outs! It is a vow taken between husband and wife and  God. Your husband may allow you to your break the vows but God never does. Therefore walk cautiously. A good man is the answer to every lady's dreams but a bad one is like an albatross around your neck for a life time. A good marriage is heaven on earth but a bad one is the closest thing to Hell you will experience this side of the grave.

You will talk to some Christians that offer divorce as an alternative to a bad marriage, but God doesn't include that in His part of any marriage. It is legal to divorce in most countries of today's world, that we can't argue, but Jesus himself made divorce and remarriage an immoral act.

Take your Bible and read Jesus own words on divorce and re-marriage.

"It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. Matthew 5: 31 -32

.......................................................................... ...........................................
"The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery."  Matthew 19:3-9

This is the words of Jesus himself on the matters of divorce and re-marriage. As you know and likely believe He is finally authority for all Christians. We need not seek to interpret what He has said. He is always straight fore-ward.

Of course, no one thinks of divorce when talking marriage, but in this case the man you are talking about is according to Jesus still married morally to his wife. For you or anyone esle to take on a marriage with him as long as his wife lives is adultery or sin.

The best thing you can do is refuse to see him when he gets out of jail and to cease all correspondence with him now and in the future, anything else could lead to sin. We know that prayer is not necessary here, because God never changes His mind even if we pray for Him to do so. Beginning marriage in sin will only lead to heartache even if this man's past life of crime doesn't haunt your life together.

I write in concern for you. I hope what I have written will be of help to you in your Christian life and your thoughts on companionship and marriage with this gentleman.
26  Prayer / General Discussion / The Gospel According to You on: June 15, 2007, 12:44:11 PM
"There's a sweet old story translated for men,
But writ in the long, long ago---
The Gospel according to Mark, Luke, and John---
Of Christ and His mission below.

"Men read and admire the Gospel of Christ.
With its love so unfailing and true;
But what do they say, and what do they think,
Of the gospel according to you?

"'Tis a wonderful story, that gospel of love,
As it shines in the Christ-life divine;
And, oh, that its truth might be again told
In the story of your life and mine.

"Unselfishness mirrors in every scene;
Love blossoms in every sod;
And back from its vision the heart comes to tell
The wonderful goodness of God.

"You are writing each day a letter to men;
Take care that the writing be true;
'Tis the only gospel that some men will read---
The Gospel according to you."

27  Prayer / General Discussion / More on Holiness on: June 11, 2007, 06:59:58 AM
" …The Bible teaches that we can be like Jesus. We are to be like Him in our separation from the world, in purity, in love, and in the fullness of the Spirit. This holiness.
This work was begun when you where converted. You gave up your sins. You were in some measure separated from the world, the love God of was in some degree shed abroad in your heart, and you felt that God was with you. But unless you have been sanctified wholly, you also feel that there was yet roots of bitterness within: quickness of temper, stirrings of pride, too great a sensitiveness to praise or blame, shame of the Cross, love of ease, worldly-mindedness and the like. These must be taken away before your heart can be made clean. Love to God and man made perfect, and the Holy Spirit have all His way in you."

30  Prayer / General Discussion / There is a Great quantity of Nominal Christianity today. on: May 30, 2007, 08:12:28 PM
"There is a great quantity of nominal Christianity to-day. There is need of more of the real thing. We need revival of the Christianity of Christ .  We have, unconsciously, lazily, selfishly, formally grown into a discipleship that Jesus himself would not acknowledge. He would say to many of us when we cry ‘Lord, Lord,’ ‘I never knew you!’ are we ready to take up the cross?  Is it possible for this church to sing with exact truth,
                                      ‘Jesus, I my cross have taken,
                                       All to leave and follow Thee?’
