I'm on day 15 of the Purpose Driven Life and it's changing my life! I'm feeling so much more prepared for God's will and His plan for me . . .
Has anyone else read this book? Let's share our experiences. It pleases the Lord when we fellowship and praise Him. It is our job as christians to spread the word!

I am so impressed with our young sister! How refreshing it is these days to meet a 15-year-old girl that is modest and demure! Welcome to the CU family little one! My prayer for you is that you stay as sweet and innocent as you are today. It makes me smile to think of you sitting at a sewing maching making that lavender dress! I used to sew when I was quite young, so I guess I can still do it now. I also knit, crochet and do needlepoint. Cooking is another favorite hobby and I've also started scrapbooking. . .
Keep posting little one, I'm definitely going to keep track of you. You're in my heart!

Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Porn (Adults Only)

Hey Bronzey!
I too have a "dark past" from which The Light has set me free! I agree with your assessment that porn is not "innocent" fun - it puts images in one's mind, images that evenutally fester into reality. Once that door of sin is opened just a crack, it doesn't take much for the same door to come crashing down! Sin is powerful and we as a society are slowly being desensitized. "Alternative lifestyles" are being taught in our schools, but our kids can't pray anymore. Civil Rights and Equality have removed God from our government, taken Christ out of Christmas and makes it ok for men to dress as women, for women to have abortion, and is making it possible for same sex marriage. The second amendment to the Constitution (which written by our CHRISTIAN Forefathers) makes porno OK
Now please don't get me wrong about my views on Equality and Civil Rights - I DO agree that all of us are equally precious in the eyes of God and that we all have a right to fairness and humanity... fair pay for fair work, etc. etc. I just think that the simple issues have been taken way over the line! I just don't believe that being equal means that cross dressing, homosexuality, or abortion is alright in the eyes of our Lord. And I also believe that sexual deviance includes porn and is an abomination.
Just my humble opinion.

Thank you Bob, very much. He (my husband, Bill) needs prayer. I will continue to be a passive, subservient wife and pray that my grace influences him..... but at the end, I'm the one that will stand before God - alone and accountable only for myself. I cannot save Bill, I can only love him.

Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Praise Him By Name
|

When I pray, I pray to "Father God" in the name of "My Savior Jesus Christ" ... the question arose because of a book I'm reading; "The Purpose Driven Life". I'm thirteen days into a 40-day journey and last night I read that God commands that we pray to Him by NAME and states (two) names that God uses in reference to Himself - I thought it meant that I'm to pray to "Jehovah" and personally I'm not comfortable with that, but being a baby-christian, I thought it a fair question to ask.
I really appreciate the thorough, thoughtful answers I received and how quickly you replied. In fact, I've come to expect and rely on the christian support I receive here. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Prayer / General Discussion / Praise Him By Name
|
on: December 01, 2005, 12:59:45 PM

I have a question on "how" to pray. Since we're instructed to praise Him by name, simply praying to "God" can't be what He meant. Therefore, by what names (Johovah, Yewah, any other?) does God refer to Himself and shouldn't we call Him by name?

I've always been a sucker for stray animals, in fact, my kitty "Talker" is a rescue and the first pet cat I've ever had. Sounds like I was blessed with a good one to start off with. Blessings -

Hello! It's nice to meet you and thanks so much for your heartfelt reply. At one time (before I was married to hiim) my husband was a practicing Johovah's Witness - I don't know what caused him to turn his back on God altogether, all I know is that I'm being tested. He has never raised his hand to me, but he yells and cusses a lot. His everyday language is abominable - I cringe at most of the stuff he says.
The church knows and encourages me to stay in the marriage saying that the only reason I can divorce him is if he hits me, or if I'm afraid of him, which I'm not. Disappointment is not grounds for divorce. In the meantime, I'm held up in prayers and I'm growing stronger in the Lord by leaps and bounds. Something about my husband's character, strengthens my own. . . . God's mysterious ways!

I had to laugh at your story BEP! I know it wasn't funny to you at the time, but the tale is quite humorous. It also sounds to me like you got ahold of a ferel cat (wild, stray never domesticated). My cat is so loving and sweet! Just like PR's cat did him, mine watches me everywhere I go and rides around on my lap like Queen Cleopatra (she also loves saurkraut, go figure).
Some folks love dogs, others cats . . . just as long as we take care of our pets.

I've also seen spas, beauty parlors and vacation camps for dogs! With all the money the rich spend on pampering their pooches, one might think hunger in the U.S. could be abolished....
Besides that, CATS already know yoga - they don't need classes. They don't get stressed and everything is to play with!
