I thought the sci-fi series was good. Very different world view from the ususl sci-fi. Too bad it wasn't written more recently, because it is a bit dated. Otherwise a fine series.

I've heard of it. It's supposed to be a "classic".

I bought "Black" but never finished it. I did like "Thr3e" though.
The ending was a shock!

Anybody been on or participated on a walk?

Cyote, I've not gone on an Emmaus weekend, but I kave been on a Koinonia weekend. It's based, like the Emmaus weekend, on the Catholics's Cursillo.
I've worked as a team member on several weekends, and have met folks who attended Emmaus weekends.
The weekends are such a blessing!

Your friends can be trusted never to trap you with: "So, notice anything different?"

Or "Does this make me look fat?"

I am in the middle of starting a men's breakfast group in my church. The problem I find is the negitive feedback I keep getting. "well we have tried in the past and failed" (Pastor) and there have been other's in the church saying the same thing. Now I am afraid that my group is doomed before it starts.
I told a friend of my about what was happening and she advised me of a bible verse; Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
So now I will do what God whats me to do, start that Men's Group and if only two to three show, I know that God will still smile.
I need your prayers and any ideals to get this group going and growing.

Smokey's Testimony

The way I came to Christ is a long and winding tale. A shortened version follows.
I was dragged to church as a kid, but we stopped going after my mom died when I was 11. God was fathful though. I remember being invited to vacation Bible school, at a neighborhood church and I had a friend in high school who was a Christian, and she invited me to a youth for Christ rally. It made me very uncomfortable. I asked God to forgive my sins one night after that, but told no one. I went away to college, and drifted away, the usual college stuff, drinking swearing and sex. Yet God was faithful. I kept bumping into Christians. In the dorm, the cafeteria, even in my fraternity! I received Christ as savior about 10 months after graduating from college when a co-worker shared with me on our lunch break at 3:00am one morning. I was working for a contract security company on the midnight shift at the time. That was in 1976. The man who shared with me was fired within a couple months, and I didn’t get much discipleship. It was just me and my pocket New Testament. But God was faithful, and seemingly out of the blue I got a call from a fraternity buddy who invited me to a Bible study at EMU. The funny thing is he didn’t know I had become a Christian! Of course I accepted! Through that study I found a church, and I was baptized in May of 1979. I have been an active member of Crossroads Community Baptist church since that time.
I’ve taught adult Sunday school classes with the college students, single adults, and married adults, and I have served as a deacon for one 3 year term. I've been married for 14 wonderful years. My wife and I are currently active in the Choir, and occasionally teaching in our adult Sunday school class. We both work for the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor.

Church welcomes 'dogs of all faiths'

ORLANDO -- Worshippers who don't like to leave their sad-eyed pets behind can now take them to "doggie church."

"Dogs of all faiths welcome," is the motto of Hymns & Hounds, a dog-friendly church here. In April, Pastor Dee Renda gave families a way to include their pets spiritually. The 55-year-old pastor and former Florida professional dog trainer saw an article 2 1/2 years ago about a church in Fort Lauderdale that allowed all types of pets.

Renda loved the idea, but decided to open the outreach church of the Apopka Assembly to only dogs.

"I am not a bird or iguana trainer and I wouldn't know what to do if an iguana got eaten by one of the dogs," she said.

The church has moved from a tent on the grounds of Apopka Assembly to the air-conditioned indoors of Absolute Heaven Pet Spa & Resort. Located on the west side of Orlando, it is about a 50-minute drive from DeLand. Renda said the services are monthly so "people might make more of an effort to come," and travel from farther away.

Margie Durney has been making the 30-minute commute from Altamonte Springs since the church began meeting in April. Durney said she waited until she retired before rescuing Silhouette, her 6-year-old Italian greyhound, because she didn't want to leave a pooch alone at home.

Durney said years have passed since she attended church; she usually just watched it on television. But now that she has a place to bring her "little girl," she makes the drive.

"This is my baby," she said, "I was reluctant to leave her to go to church."

The nondenominational service usually starts with praise and worship.

"A few dogs sing with us," said Renda, who brings her Border collie, Maggie, to church. But "I've never had a fight or trouble with the dogs."

During a recent sermon, Renda likened a dog's relationship to its owner to people's relationship to God. When you go to the pound and rescue a dog, you bring that animal into your family. Jesus rescued us and brought us into his family, Renda said.

Following the sermon, "Yappy Hour" begins. Dogs on leashes socialize with other dogs and enjoy refreshments.

So Eternitys_Child, do you think it's a worthwhile read? I have the book sitting on a shelf with a bunch of other "must read" books. Originally I heard Michael Card talking about his book on Christian radio.
